  1. a fungo bat to catch up with any fastball How about a standard bat with somebody more capable of operating it?
  2. If it were up to me, I'd add Hammel and send him against the very beatable Maeda, and then I'd like our chances at Wrigley to take at least one of Lester vs. Kershaw or Hendricks vs. Hill. But if not, like you said, I don't like the idea of wasting a Hendricks start vs. Kershaw, and then we're relying on Reliable Mid Rotation Mode Jake vs. Hill to stay alive. Good thing it isn't up to you. Ok, Hammel is by no means the ideal choice, but win or lose tonight, we're facing Kershaw and (if necessary, which bit likely will be,) Hill, and I like our chances with Lester and Hendricks against those 2 over Hendricks and Jake. And seeing as we don't have any other SP options, Hammel would be the quick fix for a few innings, then to Wood and/or Zaz.
  3. Jake on 3 days rest seems like setting him up to fail. Maybe. Guys go on 3 days rest in the playoffs all the time. But that's obviously not my concern. My concern is not wasting a great Hendricks start against an amazing Kershaw. Joe won't do it bc it's not zen. But it gives us the best chance to win the series. If you have the 2nd and 3rd best starters between the 6 left to pitch, you don't put them up against the best starter. You let the 4th or 5th best guy face him and significantly increase your chances to win the other 2. If it were up to me, I'd add Hammel and send him against the very beatable Maeda, and then I'd like our chances at Wrigley to take at least one of Lester vs. Kershaw or Hendricks vs. Hill. I wouldn't hate our chances, but I wouldn't love them.
  4. Pre Game: Her: Honey, I think the baby's coming. You: Alright, just let me know. Bottom 5th Her: I think my water just broke. You: Just get a towel, you'll be fine. This is big. Top 6th: Her: I think you should pull the car around. You: Ok, hang on. I think we're about to break this open. Bottom 9th: Her: It'a time. I mean it. You: Ok, I'll get the car. Right after this- Her (Ala The Excorcist:) I will horsefeathering kill you and beat the horsefeathers out of your ghost! You: I'll get the car.
  5. This part I missed. Anything serious? He hurt his hamstring apparently. No idea the seriousness Sucks. No doubt going to open the door for Hammel, Smith, or Cahill.
  6. He's definitely in a blackout right now. All those chokeslams have finally caught up with Ole' Petey.
  7. Kershaw for game 5 made sense if they were going in for the Kill, but now they they need to save him for when they're fighting for their lives.
  8. Had Dickbag survived 3 more batters, you'd owe some splainin' to the Mrs.
  9. I am intrigued by your theories Any variety of shut out will suffice. And I'm pretty sure that God Mode Jake is a thing of the past, and the best we can hope for is reliable mid-rotation mode.
  10. With Lester slated to start tomorrow, and then back to Wrigley, it feels as though the pendulum's headed back out way, like, a lot.
  11. I am enjoying myself more than I was this time last night.
  12. Could have been much, much worse. Now let's keep on doing the thing when we score runs.
  13. It's allllliiiiiivve!!! Of course it had to be as I was putting the kids to bed, but I'm cool with that.
  14. If we reach the WS, can we request to use the DH for Heyward?
  15. the information is on fan graphs. I tried to look it up but I'm not smart and didn't know how to draw conclusions from the data. I don't have any idea how they calculate this, but I think this shows where we are relative to everyone else in baseball. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=7&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=5,d For those too lazy to click: 18th in baseball, one spot behind the Dodgers. We kill fastballs (4th), sliders (1st), and struggle against changeups. If I'm reading those charts right, Kris Bryant's #39 in baseball at hitting the curve, with Zobrist and LaStella at 98 and 100 as the only other Cubs breaking the top 100. Meanwhile, Rizzo ranks #1 vs. the changeup, but is beyond hapless against the curve. With this in mind, if we face another left handed curve-beast such as Kershaw or Hill, we should maybe do the unthinkable and move Rizzo down a few slots.
  16. I'd be interested to see Almora get a start. I mean how much worse can he be than Heyward?
  17. This post-season, the Cubs are 3-0 when David Ross starts. 1-3 when he has not.
  18. Butters? BHogg- that was his name. Where is he? Make him start a game thread by any means necessary!
