    As I recall, he had multiple concussions throughout his career. Hard not to think back to Dave Duerson, and all of the other NFL players who suffered them.

    He hasn't done anything meaningful in the last 3 years What's more important than that is that everyone seems to be in the market for starting pitching, and nobody was willing to give him a guaranteed big league deal.

    I doubt that it's so much the $5-6MM/season that's keeping us from dealing Soriano so much as the prospect/player package that we're asking for.

    If they trade Kubel, I think it definitely helps Sori's market. Even moreso if they deal him to Seattle or some other west coast team Sori wouldn't accept a trade to. Honestly though, its going to be really tough to replace Soriano's power in the middle of the lineup, so I'm thinking he starts the season with us, since we've got at least a punchers chance right now. DeJesus is the OF I could see being dealt. Atlanta, KC, or Seattle all seem like good fits for him. To be honest, I'd have interest in trading for Kubel, depending on the price. Not sure about his defense, but he's a solid high .700s-low/mid .800s bat, and makes 7.5MM in 2013 with a 7.5MM option/1MM buyout for 2014. Certainly the type of player that if we traded for and didn't contend we could probably flip for something similar to what we give up.

    Why? As I said before, I'm still going off of 3 year old scouting reports, but they made him sound pretty impressive. He's only 21, and his 2012 was lost to injury, so despite the rough start, which I believe was 8 games, there's no reason to write him off. While he's far from a sure thing to make it anywhere, but I'd take a guy who's a long shot at being a difference maker over guys like Bruno, Martin, and Watkins who are safer bets with far lower ceilings.

    Underwood Loux Whitenack: difficulty with 3rd choice. Whitenack showed some great stuff in 2011. Wells looked promising as well before not undergoing TJS. Amaya, Szczcur, Torreyes, and the forgotten Golden also get consideration.

    Nelson will no doubt fill the traditional role of AAAA masher. Not sure he brings anything to the table that Justin Bour cant. Didn't realize that he was a top 50 prospect once upon a time though.

    I guess they figure that middling at best rotation depth is more important and/or harder to come by than high ceiling bullpen depth. I guess they're right, especially if they plan on trading a starter.

    That's an annoying loss. There were easily half-a-dozen guys on the 40-man worse than him. Very true. Still, after Rosario there are still 39 on the 40 man, and that's without Jackson, Villanueva, and Schierholtz. I don't know how many times I've said this, but it could be that they're trying to make a trade or two before any DFA's.

    No surprise in the slightest that Beliveau was claimed. Not too happy with it. Rosario was intriguing, but it seems that everyone wants him, just not enough to keep him. Still don't quite get why we're so protective of Clevenger. I can't imagine anyone claiming him anyway.

    You are still holding to the ridiculous "we are awful and the front office isn't oing to sign anybody until 2015" mantra? I've never held that mantra, just picked apart the notion that many people have spewed that we should wait to sign people until we're ready to be good. Regardless, nothing has been accomplished. It looks on paper like they have managed to make this team moderately respectable next season. That isn't an accomplishment. Not so much "ready to be good" as waiting for the right players at the right price. Jackson and Villanueva filled that criteria. There's little question that we could have been more aggressive in pursuit of Darvish and Cespedes, but for whatever reason, we weren't. Beyond that, nothing has enticed them. Cincy's scary, but with 2 Wild Cards, we might just end with more reason to watch this summer than a fight for a top 5 draft pick.

    Ah yes, you're classic player for a player, one team's need for the other team's need. No salary dumping. No PTBNL. Such trades are a rarity these days.

Or maybe Kevin Costner can pick him up on a backwoods road and offer him a spot on his team.

(IF) Schierholtz/Sappelt (OF) Campana? (OF) Navarro © Barring any additional moves, this might just end up resembling a major league baseball team. I'd still love to pull a decent bat out of a hat though.

    I don't see any Garza trade happening while his health is still uncertain. There's no use selling that low. But enough teams are in need of front end pitching without many FA options that someone could take the risk. We really missed the boat last winter, and I don't know if his value will go up much in the summer.

    If enough goes right, Marmol, Fujikawa, Wade, Russell, Camp, Lewis, Dolis/Rosario/Rondon could be an incredible bullpen. It would help if we don't encounter too many left handed hitters though.

    Things are going to get very interesting if we do sign Jackson as well as Villanueva. We'll certainly shop Garza as well as Wood, and wait for someone to bowl us over with an insano package for Shark. There's also the little matter of the 40 man roster. We're running out of guys that we would't miss of claimed. Depedning on whether we trade an existing starter, and how many, Rusin and/or Raley become immediate candiates. There's also Clevenger. If we need an emergency catcher, we can always find one when the time comes. Campana's the other option, but they seem rather attatched to him or he'd be gone by now.

    Different offensive environment. Plus Bourn is better at being that guy. And he's a better fielder. But, to be honest, even 2005 Juan Pierre would be a welcome addition on this roster. And we didn't give up any of our top prospects for Michael Bourn.

    Looks like Wade has 2 really good years (2008&2011) and 2 really bad years (2009 & 2012.) Always had nice BB/K rates though. I like him and Lewis a lot better than the relievers they spent most of 2012 scraping off the sidewalks.

    When you sign an extra pitcher when you already have 5, it's possible that you're looking to trade 1, but it could also be for depth. When you sign 2 extra starting pitchers when you already have 5, it's almost certain that you're looking to trade one, maybe 2. There could even be a trade on the table.

    Very interesting that we're in on 2 of the top remaining FA pitchers. With Villanuva, Feldman, Baker, and Garza, it could make for a very interesting July if we're not contending.

    and who is that "actual ace" that you're going to get/sign? David Price. Judging by what they got for a year and an option of 30 year old James Shields, I can't even begin to think about the, er, price. Theo Epstein > Dayton Moore True, but not enough so to acquire a bonified 27 year old ace for anything less than what they got for Shields, who's older, not nearly as good, and has less service time unless he had an unfortunate run in with a table saw between now and when we try to get him.
