I bet you're glad they brought him in before the 7th tonight though. :D I love the "W" and i love the way he pitched tonight, but in all seriousness, the guy was doing well in my great state as a starter and we brought him up to be groomed for closer and he's being used in anything but a 7th or 8th inning roll. I need holds darnit! Seriously tho, our pen is nasty if it goes Marmol, Howry, Demp. But not so good if it goes Eyre, Weurtz (who i used to think was the answer), howry, demp. Let's either use marmol as a great set up guy or move him back to AAA and let him pitch cause he's got some great stufff. And for god's sake use a stupid AAAA for life guy as a bullpen guy and move gallagher back down, there's no point for that guy to have pitched 5 innings in 15 days for the big club when he's not ready to be a starter (which he should be long term)
-
Link I really wish it would have been gallagher sent down, I can't stand that he's up here wasting away and putting his arm through unnecessary strain for no reason. And for the love of god, if your gonna call up marmol to be "the closer of the future" quit bringing him out before the 7th, let him handle the 7th, howry the 8th, and demp the 9th. I need holds in my fantasy league dangit.

I haven't read pas this so maybe this has been addresssed, but you can't be one bit mad at sori if your wells or peavy or young or mad dog or anyone. THE GUY TURNED ON A PITCH THAT ELECTRIFIED THE HOME CROWD IN A GAME THE CUBS DESPERATELY WANTED TO WIN AND HAD TO COME FROM BEHIND TO DO SO. I don't care what peavy or brenly says if Wells doesn't wanna get shown up like that don't let the new guy (very well paid) hit a HR off you to bring the cubs right back in it. Think how tense every cubs series has been cause they've all been really close and every F*in win counts no matter if it's in april, june, september, ONE WIN IS ONE F*In WIN! I'm so sick and tired of pitchers getting sick of hitters showing them up (how many pitchers have said this about manny's 18 steps before he hits a stride gay ass?) Peavy is part to blame, but most of the blame lies on Young for throwin up and in to a guy like lee.
-
Because he's a pud. Yeah, that big wussy decided to throw at a 6'5 250 guy instead of a 6'1 190 guy because he's a "pud". Yeah that big wussy threw at a guy who spent all last year rehabbing a wrist injury because he knew it would give him wiggle room for suspension and that Dlee has a reputation of being a calm cool collected good guy. If he wanted to throw at someone to protect David fat boy Wells feelings after Soriano rocked that fat boy he should have thrown at Sori's ribs and dealt with whatever repercussions followed, instead he threw up and in on a guy that had nothing to do with it cause he thought he'd get away with it. HE IS A PUD.

You can feel free to move this to rants, but it's not non-baseball talk, it's a statistic showing that one of our starting pitchers has a higher slg pct than our $4.5M shortstop. And he has more career HR's than said SS in about 1/7th the career AB's and said SS also is 17th in fielding Pct, and only 1 person has more errors with less chances than him. I know fielding stats are pretty much worthless, but all of us can say with confidence that he's not a very good fielder anymore and he's an extremely poor hitter, and he's a complete waste of $4.5million dollars a year with the minor league prospects we had coming into the year. The only reason I posted it is because I didn't realize how worthless he really is.

From rotoworld's daily dose email that was sent to me... "Zambrano turned in his best performance of the season Monday, tossing eight innings of one-run ball against the Astros while totaling eight strikeouts and just one walk. Big Z also provided his own run support by homering off Woody Williams for the eventual game-winning run in a 2-1 victory, giving him a dozen home! rs and a .370 slugging percentage in 359 career at-bats. For comparison, Cesar Izturis has 11 homers and a .335 slugging percentage in 2,588 career at-bats." I know everyone has proposed these questions before but HOW IN THE WORLD DID WE COVET THIS ABSOLUTE JOKE OF A BASEBALL PLAYER? I can't believe Jimmy Boy traded away Maddux to a contender to get this guy, and it wasn't even an expiring contract, it saddled us with another year at $5m dollars or whatever he makes for unreal bad offensive production.
-
That's true except for Iowa. Also, I don't think he actually played in the championship for West Tenn; I think that was the year he missed most of the second half due to injury. [/nitpick] I thought it was actually the RIOT who played on a championship team every year in the minors? Maybe i'm completely wrong but that's what I thought had been said.
-
Ha couldn't have happened to a bigger d-bag. I'm so glad lugo made that error and shannon got that hit. If that guy would have gotten a no hitter espn would have a "chasing nolan" across the bottom counting his no hitters or somethin.

It's worked out? LOL...have you checked the Cubs record lately? Have you bothered to even look at the umpteen responses refuting your claim? He's got better avg, OBP, and SLG with no one on base than he is with people on or in scoring position. He's more comfortable batting leadoff and it is so far down on the list of issue's this team has. I'd rather take soriano with a .350 OBP in the 1 hole with theriot with his .331 OBP in the 2 hole or 7th spot (if pie sticks at 2) over putting that .331 OBP in the leadoff with soriano in the 5 with a line of .268/.321/.474 It makes us worse in 2 spots in the lineup.

It really looks like it's all Carlos to me. Barrett stepped toward Zambrano, but he didn't really seem all that aggressive to me. It certainly didn't look like Michael was going to take a swing or anything. Z should be suspended and fined. Barrett charged at Z and then Z shoved Barrett. Lol Barret did not charge at Z. He might have stepped towards him but definatly didnt charge lol. he put his arms up and was getting ready to shove Z. it's not like you could really charge anyone in close quarters like that, but i would say barrett instigated it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, i haven't read past this comment yet, so i'm sure someone else has already said it, but HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Yeah right. Zambrano is the complete and total idiot in this entire situation. TOTAL. Even if barrett went into the clubhouse trying to attack him (which i doubt, i assume he probably went in to say something along the lines of "hey i'm sorry that play happened let's work this out later" or "hey it's all good i'm sorry i didn't make the play") zambrano is still the IDIOT who started the whole darn thing and needs to be sent away to the yankees or whoever will give us a good return ASAP. I would have never advocated trading Zambrano before the season but now I'd love to get rid of him, his bum arm, his ridiculous temper, and his empty head. QFT (just had to toot my own horn on this one)

Trade Lee Now
slieb85 replied to stitchface's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
Ok my internet has kicked me out of writing this reply twice. So extremely shortened version. Santana is horrible away from home and would be worthless as a piece in a trade for Lee. He's in danger of being dropped from LAA's rotation. I wouldnt be opposed to trading Lee necessarily but we'll be looking at 2011 or so before we're contending if we go that route and then we'll be sitting on a much poorer version of soriano/ramirez. I would rather see us unload Dempster, Jones, Eyre, Howry, Izturis, Zambrano, De rosa, Barrett, Floyd(or just let him walk.) Hopefully a competent GM could get a few young pitching prospects and maybe a decent position prospect or two out of that. I would go youth movement/try to get Arod this offseason and try to make a run in 08/09. Something like this could be a posibility 1.soriano 2. theriot 3. lee 4 arod 5 aramis 6 murton/FA corner outfielder/someone we net from a trade 7. soto/hill 8. pie Rotation of hill, lilly, marquis, guzman, marshall (prior if we sign him to the right contract and he comes back well) Bench of: Fontenot, 2nd catcher, epatt, Murton/other of prospect, 1b/3b prospect Bullpen of: Wood (maybe), wuertz, rapada, marmol (closer), cotts, prospect1, prospect 2 Still have a good set of farm system pitchers to grow with veal gallagher and smardzidja (sp?), plus possibly weiters or whoever we draft this year. A competent GM could get something like that done and that type of team could dominate this division for 3-4 years with a chance to be good afterwards if money is spent correctly. -

.ylekilnU Hey i'm coming to visit a friend in Davis, and while he's at class on friday would love to watch the friday game at a bar while drinkin a few before the A's/Giants game. Do you know of a decent place out there to watch the game? Any help appreciated. The only place I can think of that could be televising the Cubs-Sox games is the Davis Graduate. The website is http://www.davisgrad.com and they should have a phone number on there if you want to call and find out if they are showing it. Very much appreciated, i kinda forgot the game will be at 1120 out there so maybe i shouldn't drink that early but i'll definately wanna find somewhere to watch that and thursday's game. Do you guys get WGN on cable out there? -

LETS VOTE RYAN THERIOT INTO THE ALL-STAR GAME
slieb85 replied to Schwarber Fan's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
since you seem to be the resident riot hater (i drafted him in 3 fantasy leagues knowing he'd be solid) he has just as much business being on the all-star team than any other cub minus lee and hill. His performance so far this year has been outstanding and would be better if he got to play 2b or ss every game and not worry about bein benched by izcrappy. The kid can play and may end up bein the cubs all star selection if lee and hill slump over the next 2 months and he continues to be strong thats simply not true. the fact hes a cub makes littler difference. hes not one of the top shortstops in the league and its not even close. Are you going to sit there and tell me he's played better than: Jose Reyes, Jimmy Rollins, Hanley Ramirez, and Edgar Renteria? That's FOUR shortstops considerably better than him and I only used one of the three divisions in the National League. He's done well, but not nearly well enough to deserve to be an All Star. He's hitting .312 and his SLG isn't even over .375, that should tell you something. That came off a bit harsh towards ya, and i appologize for that. A lil too many drinks after my final. I will say I agree he's got no chance honestly for the ASG but it'd be sweet to see him in there and I think some day he may be that level of player and hope he gets to play every day over izturis cause he's such an offensive upgrade and so far the games i've seen with him at SS he's not much of a defensive downgrade. -

I like that, 2 straight walks, getting back to his good OBP self from last year now that his hot streak has really cooled. Good adjustment. -
Wait. I was reading this thread, and I completely thought this was sarcasm or a joke until I read the rest of your posts in this thread and started to suspect otherwise. You can't be serious, can you? Were you seriously predicting that Lee would go all year without a home run? he is one far out dude that is for sure... watch where they are pitching lee and where he is hitting it too, i've seriously seen them pitch inside on him about 10 times and about 5 of those have been rocketed for doubles and his 1 homer. He's hitting like .380 for christ sakes the pitchers will adjust and come inside more and his power will show up. his BABIP is like .500, neauxb. that's bound to come down a hair. if you want to know what that means, it means that 50% of the balls he puts in play are going for hits, which means he's getting incredibly lucky--even with a LD% of 30%. i know i'm a newbie to ur lil site here, but i understand what babip is, and he has been putting up an astronomical number. I would also argue that if you watch how his approach has been and how he has been pitched to, it lends itself to him drving the ball the other way and right up the box. Like i said, if you've watched you've seen maybe 10 pitches on the innner half to lee and he's crushed 1 out and about 3 others for doubles. I'm sure his babip will plummet, as soon as they start pitching him inside more, and his power should flourish... No need for harsh words, just rational debate works.

I would hope he would make those plays. He really did not have to range into the hole to make a play. Everything was hit right at him. Im still not that confident with him at ss. Are you confident with Cesar Izhoribble at SS? Not trying to pick on you directly dude, but I really can't stand the philosophy of "good" defense making up for a pathetic bat...I really can't. Im confident with Izzy making the defensive plays at the ss position. However, im not confident with him swinging the bat. I value defense pretty high on a baseball team. The ss position, in my opinion, is a very demanding spot on the field that needs to be filled by someone who fields the ball consistently. Can Theriot be that guy? We will find out. He is athletic enough to play it, but can he play consistently like Izturis has shown he can? crapturis leads the team in errors, he's not the same player he once was. Your going off his reputation and nothing he's done since becoming a cub has even resembled his preceeding reputation. Theriot was a SS in the minors and will do just fine at that position every day.

4/25 Brewers (Sheets) @ Cubs (Lilly) 1:20 PM WGN/WGN720
slieb85 replied to UMFan83's topic in Fred Hornkohl Game Thread Forum
ok...but putting that in context...seattle didn't make the postseason...therefore, it has no event on my arguement are you serious? yes I'm confused as to why the Seattle record "has no event". The point was that Seattle had a winning record in one run games, and yet that didn't affect their overall record. Indians had a losing record in one run games, and yet they managed to still win 93 games. Those are both significant in that it shows that one run games have little to no effect on overall record. Who made the playoffs has nothing to do with anything. yeah, i meant to say no bearing...i am just waking up...sorry for the shoddy typing... but i am not relating it to the season...i am trying to relate it to the postseason and series I think St. louis had a losing record in 2run and 1 run games last year, might have been just 1run games but either way. All that matters is getting there and getting hot as it begins, not being tested or knowing how to win close games. i do agree that i wouldn't have minded them winning a close game just cause it's more exciting and i would like to see how lou really feels our bullpen should be set up (hopefully weurtz then demp). but no one should be complaining about finally winning any game -

Have you watched the games this year? They have been pitching him outside and low constantly, he's given the ball a ride about 7 to 10 times, and now has 1 HR. He also is hitting .378 on the year. I would say you'll see his power surge if people stop trying to get him out on the outer half of the plate. I woud say you'll see between 32-40 HR's for him sori, and rammy, which isn't bad at all.
