  1. Works for me! I have no problem with him not playing tonight. Works for me to... It just goes to show that the official word was BS. Conveniently, he isn't available to the media today.
  2. Chicago Tribune Live talking about Bonds pulling himself out of the game as a protest against ESPN. Apparently, he hasn't played during any recent ESPN televised games.
  3. Really? It's been reported that he's batting 4th tonight... Koyie Hill is also catching. Edit; NM, I just heard the correction.
  4. Sori is back to leadoff DWard is in RF DeRo at 2B I also thought I heard that Petrick is at the park but I have no idea about the corresponding move.
  5. I can understand why some people gave up on this team but, I said in May that the Cubs were underachieving and I've always thought that they would turn it around (although, I thought it would be more gradual than dramatic). The Cubs current 25-12 stretch has almost negated the Brewers 24-10 streak earlier in the year. Plus, after playing a tougher first half schedule than the Brewers, the Cubs will now be aided by the easiest second half schedule in MLB (at least on paper). I will be surprised if they don't win the division. BTW, I'm not anymore concerned about the Cardinals than any other team behind the Cubs in the division. IMO, they have too many "if" scenarios to be taken seriously at this point. If they start winning with consistency, and gaining ground, it will be time to take notice.
  6. I was looking at BP's adjusted standings, and Arizona has been the luckiest team in baseball this year. They have something like a -30 run differential, and are several games over .500, good for 7 or 8 wins on pure luck. Plus, the D'Backs have had the third easiest strength of schedule in MLB so far this season and they are only 5 games over .500 as a result. If they had been playing a more challenging schedule they wouldn't be in the thick of the NLW race. Heck, the Cubs shouldn't be in fear of them. They have one more loss and are only one more game over .500 than the Cubs. AZ managed to take 2 of 3 from a slumping Padres team today but, the D'Backs lost 3 of 4 to a bad Cards team and got swept in Cincinnati last week. Bring 'em on. Having said all that, I'm hoping they can pull a rabbit out of their hat while they play the Brewers the next 4 games. ;)
  7. Lou plans to use that lineup for lefties only because the Cubs are 8-14 vs LHP. Hopefully it helps.
  8. Today's lineup (no kidding) Theriot, SS  Fontenot, 2B Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B Soriano, LF  DeRosa, RF Soto, C Pagan, CF Marquis, P This is the lineup against LHP for the time being.
  9. DLee is my choice.
  10. Not to speculate too much, but if Sheets misses one or more starts it's a wash if Gallardo replaces him. They still need to do something with Capuano, Vargas, and Bush (Suppan has also pitched poorly but they don't have a choice but to let him pitch his way out of it). Their starting rotation has been in decline and their bullpen has been overworked in the middle as a result (Gallardo and Villanueva specifically).
  11. The Cardinals have the worst starters ERA in the NL. I don't think it will matter one way or another if Carpenter or Mulder return this season. They have more than two holes in that rotation.
  12. Sheets IS injury prone. The idea that he's had one major injury in 6.5 years is silly. He lost starts in 2001 to a rotator cuff injury then went almost 3 years without an injury (2002-2004). However, he had back surgery in October of 2004. In 2005 he had a "tear in the latissimus dorsi muscle" which limited him to 22 starts. He started the 2006 season on the DL with a "strained muscle behind his right shoulder." When he finally returned he lasted 4 starts before being DL'd again for a "strained muscle behind the right shoulder" and then again later that year for tendinitis in the front of the shoulder. He made 17 starts. His injury history is far from ordinary. More importantly, his inability to stay healthy has jeopardized the Brewers chances to win because he hasn't been dependable.
  13. Oh well, we can't be upset with 3.5 games back. Suppan will be pitching for the Brewers tomorrow and he's been very hittable.
  14. Typical... The Rockies mismanaged the inning
  15. LaTroy is trying his best to give up this game.
  16. Jenkins leadoff double
