  1. I've had a knot in my stomach everytime he's pitched since about 2005. I'm always worried he's going to suck or injure himself. I just hope he doesn't embarrass himself. Some improvement would be welcomed.
  2. I'm calling it now. Prior pitches 4 innings, letting up 1 run and 3 K's. I'm all for that!!!! :D
  3. I have a knot in my stomach just thinking about seeing Prior pitch. How times have changed...
  4. FYI, Jim Callis is on Murphy's Score show right now. http://670thescore.com/
  5. You can say that all you want, but you're wrong. Last team wasn't a fluke. Last year was a more exaggerated version of 2005. It simply exposed the flaws of a poorly run team. The Cubs have had the lowest walks in the league for several years. It's been part of their plan. Acquiring Soriano will not change that. You can cite all the bad breaks that hurt last year, but bad breaks are part of the game. People are assuming 100% health for all but Prior and Wood and no major setbacks. That's foolish. This team could probably win anywhere from 75-85 wins. I'm looking at the upper part of that range. But it's hardly unfair to think more about the lower end. It is unfair. Stop talking about 2006. Very little changed between the start of 2006 and the 2005 season. I never had any faith in that team's ability to improve. The 2007 team could only be judged against last year's team if the key roster spots were similar; which they are not. The team that played the majority of the innings last season was in a constant state of flux. The change in field management is equally important. I can see this team surpassing 85 wins.
  6. This team can not be judged based on last season's 96 losses. I keep hearing that the Cubs aren't 20+ wins better than last season. This isn't the same team that played the majority of the games in 2006. That team relied heavily on AAA/AA guys in the starting rotation, had a horrible bench, a revolving door at firstbase, very little power, the lowest walks in the League, etc
  7. The Hardball Times isn't completely sold on the Cards winning the division but they gave them the benefit of the doubt in the listing.
  8. I wonder how many wins BA is projecting? BP has the Cubs slotted for second place and 84 wins (the Brewers are projected for 85 wins): 1. Brewers 2. Cubs 3. Cardinals 4. Houston 5. Pirates 6. Reds
  9. Greg Couch/Suntimes tackles this topic in today's column.
  10. Everyone's favorite CF'er will not go to DL I can tell you are shocked. Oh joy, lollygagging starting on opening day. It's not lollygaggin. It's showboating. It's not that he doesn't try. It's that he trys and exaggerates. QFT
  11. No-7 man pen, Pagan is gone. The pen will be Howry, Erye, Dempster, Ohman, Cotts, Wuertz, and either Guzman or Cherry. Eventually, someone is going to have to be bumped for Woody. If Wood is able to get in enough innings to start the season on the active roster, Guzman and Cherry are out of luck (although, Cotts should be demoted but it isn't likely to happen).
  12. I think the Cubs are encouraged, to some degree, because he's actually pitching in Spring Training. Unlike previous years, they have the opportunity to plan their next move with him instead of hoping and relying on him being ready to start the season. It's very possible that Prior will be sent to extended Spring Training for 2 weeks-15 days. If he doesn't make enough improvement during that time, I can envision the Cubs quietly trying to option him to the MiL. Originally I was in support of AAA but if they are worried about the cold weather he can be sent to Daytona (A).
  13. As a Cards fan I can tell you that you are gonna be saying that exact same quote all year long. Get ready to miss the playoffs. Don't be so hesty... I think the Cards found a way to get there with the same pathetic Marquis on the roster.
  14. Don't count Theriot out to start some games at 2B if he gets red hot: Also, it looks like Cedeno will be the 25th man barring a last minute change. Paul Sullivan/Tribune
  15. Maybe there isn't going to be a trade for a middle infielder: Paul Sullivan/Tribune
  16. You're right. The Cubs faced him earlier in ST and he, reportedly, suffered an abdominal strain during that game. He missed his next start and avoided another start against the Cubs to play in a MiL game (the Cubs knocked around Tim Stauffeur instead). This should have been the 3rd meeting.
  17. It was a mixed reaction; some clapping along with boos. Cubs.com IMO, it was not mostly positive, it was some where in the middle.
  18. This is what I was thinking yesterday... Cubs.com

  20. Come on Prior, prove us wrong; Pitch well! I can't wait to see Hill & Woody too. :D
  21. Elliott Harris/Suntimes
  22. MLB: iN Demand's proposal falls short
  23. CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN! Good to see them winning on TV.
