  1. I agree. While it's very risky to give FA relievers big multi year deals (Howry and Eyre), one could argue that it's the price of doing business in the free agent market; to woo players from other teams. However, I think it's especially nonsensical for arbitration eligible players (MacDougal). The performance of most relief pitchers fluctuates from season to season. I don't see a real reason to extend, beyond a year, a bullpen guy who is already under control of the team.
  2. Good for the Sox. At least they have the balls to send out guys that are not performing. Hendry is such a puss when it comes to moving guys --they need to cut their losses and move on. In fairness to Hendry, he did send down Cotts! If Eyre had an option left he'd be in AAA too. Releasing players is something altogether different because the team would still have to pay the player with no return--unless the guy has a bargain basement salary, he isn't likely to be released without being given ample chances to correct himself. FYI, the Sox signed MacDougal to a 3 year extension in December. In light of today's move, that looks ridiculous. Yeah he sent down Cotts, but Cotts wasnt the guy we should send down. The only person who was pitching better than Cotts was Wuertz yet we sent down the on left hander who has been pitching ok. People blew up because he gave up the granny against AJ, but he came in with the bases loaded. Those arent his runners. I dont know I just am getting sick and tired of Lou trying to pitch Howry, Eyre who is worthless even against lefies which is pathetic, and lastly Ohman. Ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!! The decision to option Cotts was based on him being both left handed and ineffective. BTW, I disagree with your assessment of Cotts. He was pitching decently early (however he was allowing inherited runners to score) but in the days leading up to his demotion, he was terrible. Of the three, Ohman has been the best LH reliever against LH batters. Cotts and Eyre were both being owned by lefties (Cotts demotion came after giving up a granny to AJ Pierzinski--also left handed). While it's true that Eyre has been the most horrible LHRP, Cotts was more expendable because he could be optioned.

  4. Per The Score (the home of the Sox). The Sox are calling up Bret Prinz and Ryan Bukvich. Nick Masset is rumored to be the next to go if he doesn't improve. Edit: Tribune
  5. Who is a terrible coach? Clearly I'm talking about Bryan Murray of the Ottawa Senators. Clearly you are not talking about Lou because he isn't a coach. He is a manager. his title is manager, he is a coach Call any minor league or major league manager a coach and see what kind of reaction you get. this is ridiculous No, it's true. It's taboo to call a manager "coach." It's not that big of a deal for the purposes of a message board, but should not be done in their presence (especially if you expect their cooperation).
  6. The Braves also haven't performed well, overall, against LH starters this season. Although, I agree that it shouldn't be a big deal.
  7. I don't care how many homers he hits as long as the Cubs win the games.
  8. A sweep would make them only 3 games back in the loss column.
  9. LOL, He really didn't do anything and he said as much during his postgame comments. Lou even made out the lineup. It was a great day to be the manager of the Cubs. the players obviously love playing for alan i mean are you going to argue with the stats? This win is credited to Lou Piniella.

  11. A 4 game winning streak (at minimum) would be great.
  12. Eyre is not warming up. They'd like to end this positively. :D
  13. I don't think it's a big deal, he's not going to come out and say "Our bullpen really blows." He's going to say optimistic things, obviously. On the other side of town, both Kenny Williams and Ozzie are saying their pen stinks. Ozzie also got ejected today. They blew a 3-0 lead..its 4-3 Jays :) Now they've lost by that same count.
  14. you don't seriously think they're going to grill him on WGN, do you? Not grill...but I was hoping for a little more. Hendry's been pretty accommodating today; he was also live on The Score for about 20 minutes this morning.

  16. Kelly Johnson has hit Marshall well. I'm surprised he sat against Hill (not that it hurt them).
  17. Yeah, he's got to start leaving the box with some purpose.
  18. Triple baby! Andruw couldn't get it. Looked misplayed... I like this power.
  19. Wow, this is the best I've ever seen Marshall pitch.
