  1. This series notwithstanding, the Mariners are well over .500 versus LHP.
  2. Just heard on The Score that Murton was sent down. Rapada takes his place.
  3. How true! However, I'm not so sure he turns it around. He leads the Majors Leagues in passed balls and he's third in errors. He has single handedly cost us several games this year. To what do you attribute a total collapse in defense? It's not like he's been broken down by injuries leading to him slowing down and not being able to move as well behind the plate. Errors and passed balls for catchers are probably the most reliant on the situation compared to other defensive positions. Barrett's never been great on D, but he's never been terrible. I just don't see him getting this bad for no real reason. I don't think he positions his body well to block pitches. When I compare his technique with other catchers, it appears that he tries to block with his glove instead of his body. Whatever the case, he's been terribly ineffective.
  4. It is for me. There's a big difference in Barrett hitting .249 and upwards of .300 like he has in the recent past. His bat isn't producing enough to justify his glove. At the very least, I would consider taking him out for defense late in games. Aramis going down is bad timing. No manager would do that for fear the backup would get hurt. Oh, I know but he's so bad I'd consider it...

  8. yeah, because he's been an offensive force this year. LOL, I'm not going to blame him for any more than what he has coming... I feared this game would come down to a botched play at catcher. if it weren't for barrett's hit in the eighth, it wouldn't have come down to that. Barrett (and Murton) also left 4 runners on base. So did Theriot and Izturis. Theriot and Izturis aren't the run producers on the team (particularly Cesar). I'm PO'd about the play at the plate! It was make able but he's a bad catcher and since he isn't driving in more runs than he allows, I'm calling him out.

Barrett (and Murton) also left 4 runners on base. yeah, the whole team sucks...what's your point? My point is Barrett didn't come through the majority of the game. neither did hill, hill, izturis, jones, murton, ohman, soriano, pie, theriot, derosa, pagan, fontenot, or anyone else on this pathetic team. you're acting like barrett is the difference between a 28-35 team and a 50-13 team. Murton and Barrett were the worst offenders in regulation because they had multiple chances. Again, my beef with Barrett has to do with his glaring defensive deficiencies. If he can't raise his BA, OBP, and power numbers he's useless.

So did Theriot and Izturis. Fontenot left 5 late in the game however, he was facing tough lefty relievers. Unlike Barrett, none of those guys is hitting cleanup. Come on, Barrett was showing bunt in the early innings... He isn't coming through enough offensively and he's a defensive liability.

  14. Well, at least it wasn't a one-run game.
  15. Is Sori going to get anything good to hit? I doubt it
  16. Oh come on fellas--I get tired of reading some of you in here who just blame Lou every time. Ohman had gotten righties out for the past inning and 2/3. How about putting it on Barrett--catch the stupd ball and we are fine. This team just doesnt make plays. PERIOD!! I'm with you on this particular play. If Barrett blocks the ball the guy is out. He let it get by him per usual. I'm so ready to have his butt launched in favor of a defensive catcher! If Koyie Hill starts this game he probably doesn't tie the game like Barrett does. I guess we wouldn't be quite as miserable. Who knows if Hill throws the same pitches and gives up 3 runs? I do know that they didn't seem to be on the same page in the dugout. Hill appeared to be angry with Barrett... Ultimately, a pitcher has the option to chose his own pitches but if he isn't sure he might defer to the catcher and that could be the disconnect after a run scores. And it's a guarantee Hill calls better pitches??? Looks like Barrett's done a great job with Hill all year. I'm not convinced of that but I do know there was a problem between the two tonight.

  19. Wuertz was also available. he was used in, at least, 3 games in a row. I think they wanted to stay away from him tonight unless absolutely necessary.
