  1. This after Prior put up a little fuss about going to the minors. Geez, he didn't even make AAA without an injury. If Prior is injured for a good part of this season, we just need to get rid of him. He's too expensive to keep hoping a miracle happens. :(
  2. It sucks that we may lose our ace, but it may be a blessing in disguise. I waffle on bringing Z back. Great pitcher in the past, but he may go the Prior/Wood route in the near future. Increasing BB/9 and ridiculous PAP numbers scare me.
  3. Pie sure is off to to a fast start.
  4. If you want mediocre players, they're readily available in FA and via trade.
  5. Whoohoo! I was hoping they wouldn't skip him. Lou knows who the second best pitcher on this team is, lol. So once the rotation gets re-jumbled, it's Z/Hill/Lilly/Marquis/Miller, just like it should be. 8-)
  6. Well if this team can't play in cold weather, we'd better do something before September rolls around.
  7. Is the weather going to allow this one to happen?
  8. from what i gather, that's not exactly his cup of tea Today he worked the count full and then struck out swinging on a FB up and in. How do you do that? I understand chasing a pitch low and outside or going down looking, but geez.
  9. Probably true. The Cubs have just 4 HR this year and have given up 9. But they are also struggling with OBP. It's .313 overall, and sub .300 in each of the past 3 games. I don't know what our BABIP is lately, but it has to suck. Soriano in particular needs to take a freaking walk.
  10. It's pretty disingenuous to compare complaining about this game with complaining about anything shy of a perfect game (several people did this). It's pretty disingenuous to pretend those three first inning runs were related to the defense instead of Marquis's not goodness. I don't think I made any of those claims. Marquis sucked in the first inning (he wasn't Wade Miller bad). Other than that he was pretty decent considering the extra outs he had to get. 6 or 7 IP (thanks to his PC going up with the defensive misplays) and 3 ER looks pretty decent to me. That's what he was looking at with decent defense. On a side note, Izzy really sucked today.
  11. Marquis had to get a few more outs today thanks to Barrett and Izturis. He cost himself the out at 1B with that poor throw to Izzy which should have been caught. It's pretty disingenuous to just go off his stat line when you battery mate and SS are doing such a poor job, IMO.
  12. That much is probably true. It's all you can reasonably expect. That doesnt' make it anywhere close to a good outing. Sure enough. Our starting pitcher could have gone 9 IP and given up 3 R and lost this game. That would have been a good outing. It still doesn't get it done though. This offense will come around. I just wish it was sooner rather than later. We've wasted a couple decent starts by some of our more mediocre starting pitchers.
  13. 5.40 ERA 1.60 WHIP I guess people think that's good around here. Compared to last year, its probably good. We were in the game today. That's about all you can ask a guy like Marquis. No offense, but thats under the same line of thinking as "Who cares if his ERA was 6.02, he won 14 games!" No. Marquis did his part to win the game. He go no run support. I don't know a pitcher out there who wins a game with the offense putting up goose eggs.

  15. I doubt that nobody wants Miller. Based on his starts at the end of last year, there are takers out there. I hope Guzman will have a great future with this club, but right now I want to see if Miller can get anything done so the Cubs can capitalize on a trade involving him. I definitely don't think Miller is as worthless or "trash." The most we're going to get for Miller is a mediocre prospect/pen arm. He isn't going to gain 2-5 mph on his fastball any time soon. His offspeed stuff is fine. His ceiling isn't far enough up there to justify starting him to maybe increase what little trade value he has.
  16. Again, you are passing off opinion as fact. You BELIEVE that Guzman will get better and are not allowing for the fact that he might put up the same numbers that he has in the past. You are also not allowing for the fact that he might actually do :gasp: worse then Miller :gasp: It's speculation. As for not deserving another start, if you're that hard across the board (being intellectually honest) then there are a lot of people who would be sitting right now on this club. Hell Isturis and Lee shouldn't play next game because they didn't do their job in the field. One game is not enough for any judgement. Gooz's stuff this season is significantly better (especially his curve) than last season. Why would he put up the same numbers as last year?
  17. okay, say Lou sticks Guzman out there instead of Miller, and in his first start, he goes 2 1/3, gives up 9 hits, 8 ER and walks 5. Then what? Then you figure out what is causing him to tip his pitches.
  18. Well, they said they did in '03. :(
  19. DeRosa came through in the 9th. Maybe he's working through it. He hasn't looked "lost" at the plate.
  20. We'd better not hear this "tip your cap" crap this time. The Cubs played like garbage.
