AA flame out? Yeh right. http://www.minorleagueball.com/story/2007/5/25/155416/658#commenttop Not that Sickels is a god, but... Worst case is a AAA flameout...by a guy who isn't in love with Vitters at all. I'm sure people didn't think Montanez and Harvey (top 10 picks) would be complete busts either. Come on, doesn't this just have all the signs of a bust? -Cubs history of drafting high school hitters - not good -Vitters isn't known for having particularly strong plate discipline -Cubs pass up a low-risk position player with good patience Wilken is pretty much 50/50 historically on taking college/HS players. He doesn't have issues identifying HS players with talent. He's the one signing off on the pick, not the dopes in the past. It's a huge difference. Wells, Young, Rios (that pick was very much against popular choice), Hudson, Gibbons, the list is long and distinguished. He also wanted Nomar, but was overruled. That worked out well. Rios wasn't known for his plate discipline either. Low risk? Catching with that big of a body is going to wear on the knees. Once those go, so does a lot of your power. He's not "low risk." I like Wieters, but he's not the best player available at 3, especially with his monetary/contract demands. He's not Gordon or Tex. Paying out the backside for him is silly. We can better use that money in the later rounds going over slot.
