  1. Woodward out. And you say our posts don't have impact?
  2. I saw the NBA is considering in-season tournaments styled after European soccer - precisely to make the long regular season more interesting. Don't know if that applies to baseball in some format but I think the regular season is too long and agree making it less meaningful but really dull things out. At least in the NBA, the better teams generally win in the playoffs. A mid season tournament would hold no meaning to me in the NBA or MLB. but it would for most people and it would grow in stature over time.
  3. to make the US sports better - obviously.
  4. They kept Ole on far too long. Should have sacked him when they blew their UCL group last season. Isn’t Rangnick just the manager until the end of the year anyway and didn’t sign on long term or am I remembering that wrong? yea, right. but after 5 games now they are questioning him? I'm assuming it's just the media but it's ridiculous. Did they actually think he would come in and in 5 games solve all their problems? The problem is player evaluation in my opinion. They like shiny things more than soccer players.

  6. https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-transfer-talk/story/4561765/live-transfer-talk-sergino-dest-wants-barcelona-stay-amid-chelseaatletico-interest yikes, do not like that chelsea rumor at all - would be a terrible move unless it's a loan. Athletico doesn't thrill me either though Simeone would at least teach him how to defend. Seems like staying at Barca and learning from Alves is the best course.
  7. Man U is such a mess. If people at the club and not just media are now questioning Rangnick, it really demonstrates the stupidity. They need to clean house with the shitty players they have and stop changing managers.
  8. would be remiss to not mention that Kovacic volley - that is so impressively difficult . . . glad Pulisic scored because he did not look very good.
  9. I had forgotten about that play but it doesn't really change the point.
  10. bang bang is irrelevant - if you don't get the ball it's a foul. This is really consistent all over the field. I love the idiot commentator saying "he isn't even trying to commit a foul." WTH? Anyway, Arsenal, wow. Completely outplay a totally listless City team for 55 minutes and then pay the price for continuing to play Xhaka. Gabriel gets booked for messing with the penalty spot then gets a second for a clear pull back. Then they bitch and moan about the refs before giving up a lucky winner. Never going to win trophies with that kind of stupidity. Liverpool fans have to be pissed.
  11. oh and yea, that's a foul on doherty. he isn't trying to play the ball and if he doesn't run into Forster, he catches it easily.
  12. Generally, I would say the rules are well enforced in pro games - youth games are ridiculous.
  13. yea, that doesn't excite me.
  14. Just watched it. Entertaining until the red card then pretty painful to watch. Given it's a search for depth, few players really stood out although they played well as a team. Good to see Morris back - still seemed to have a quick first step - will be good to see what he can do against stronger competition. Acosta was his usually ok self - plays decent but gives the ball away too much in spots that cost you games. Zimmerman was good. Lennon was good in first half when there was space behind. Pepi not too good.
  15. Replacing Haaland? Watched Chelsea this morning - they are not good with Pulisic as the 9. They have all these players who are good at crossing the ball and he is not much of a target. Chelsea switched at halftime to Pulisic out right and Lukaku at the 9 and were so much more dangerous. Pulisic and Mount created well together and opened up Lukaku.
  16. https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-the-toe-poke/story/4546790/the-champions-league-draw-that-never-was-how-social-media-reacted-to-round-of-16-redraw
  17. Athletico seems like a terrible draw for Man U as one of them will have to have possession
  18. Round-of-16 draw FC Salzburg vs.Bayern Munich Sporting CP vs. Manchester City Benfica vs. Ajax Chelsea vs. Lille Atletico Madrid vs. Manchester United Villarreal vs. Juventus Inter vs. Liverpool Paris Saint-Germain vs. Real Madrid Initial round-of-16 draw, declared void Benfica vs. Real Madrid Villarreal vs. Manchester City Atletico Madrid vs. Bayern Munich FC Salzburg vs. Liverpool Inter Milan vs. Ajax Sporting CP vs. Juventus Chelsea vs. Lille Paris Saint-Germain vs. Manchester United
  19. hopefully not Bayern. I think these moves make sense - Dest seems caught between positions. I could see a second level Bundesliga or PL team - something like Leipzig or Everton.
  20. very entertaining game - Zenit was the better team for most of it.
  21. A most interesting group - predictable given the teams there that it would end like this! I think Ajax is the most impressive performance so far - 18 points and not from a totally weak group. They are also fun to watch.
  22. tough luck for Jesse Marsch. He was probably doomed from the start.
  23. Interesting experimental December roster - even a Brooks Lennon sighting https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states-usa/story/4538117/usmnt-calls-up-mls-based-players-ahead-of-friendly-vs-bosnia-and-herzegovina
  24. Nothing will get done until players start losing checks and owners start losing ticket revenue I’d be shocked if this thing lasts in to the season and they start losing games. I’d bet they have something done in February at the latest. This is so optimistic but how can you feel this way? They've had months to negotiate and walked away after 7 minutes yesterday. What will create the incentive between now and February that wasn't already there?
  25. raising the limit from 210 to 214? Is that even a concession? WTF?
