  1. Really? I wouldn't. I don't think complete lack of emotion is such a great thing.
  2. I don't see Damon ageing well and $14 million a year is too much in his prime.
  3. yeah, but if we keep putting people like them on the team, he will eventually have to use them. or better yet, quit.
  4. Do you really have any hope for the wildcard Hoops? If you do, you are far more optimistic than I am. This team should have sold role players in July since they aren't helping them win anyway. I think Greg would accept a trade to San Diego and I do think he will be exposed to waivers and will likely clear them. As was discussed elsewhere, a player with a no trade can refuse to go to a team that claims him. Trading Wood would be foolish at this point since his value has bottomed out. I think its a better risk to keep him and hope he can return to form than trade him for little value (or a bad contract).
  5. July would constitute one month on my calendar. Macias is an awful awful player.
  6. so, we judge hairston on one month and replace with a player on his downside? Sounds pretty short-sighted to me. To waive hairston and keep macias would be absurdly dumb . . . and very cub-like. I don't much care for judging a player on one month or even worse, on dusty's opinion of him. Hairston's .304 is still better than neifi, macias, or corey.
  7. Maybe we can hawkins back. or jody gerut . . .
  8. manny in LF = world series. his offensive production would far outweigh his defensive liabilities - particularly in a little park like wrigley. anyone who wouldn't want manny is completely out of their mind in my opinion.
  9. How does that compare with other teams this year, and other teams in previous years? I don't know - perhaps UK studied that as well.
  10. That I don't doubt, the question is did the sox improve offensively by adding posednik and subtracting lee? and specifically, does posednik make the hitters after him better by being on base (something he is not extraordinarily good at anyway)?
  11. Should be straight forward enough CP - find the standard deviation. I did a quick check and found that in 64 of their 95 games, the sox have scored 3 or less or 6 or more.
  12. They're winning because of pitching. There is no way their offense is better while scoring fewer runs per game.
  13. Can you support that stance? The Sox are scoring half a run less this year than last per game.
  14. from the irony department . . . L. Overbay reached on fielder's choice, R. Weeks scored, L. Overbay to second on third baseman S. Rolen's throwing error
  15. he'll probably up that number if he goes to St. Louis . . . After watching St. Louis this week, I really don't see Rolen making it through the season - he looks terrible at the plate.
  16. Eric, Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions and congratulations on an outstanding start to your pro career. We look forward to seeing you in the majors! There has been a lot of debate amongst analysts regarding the advantages of drafting high school or collegiate players. What benefits do you received from your time playing college ball as opposed to becoming a pro straight out of high school?
  17. Do you get the feeling Dusty just can't wait to get Murton out? Incredible. holly starts today.
  18. not as exciting this year as mike goes out on day one.
  19. I can't believe you are all ignoring this fabulous additional portion of the quote. He factors in how wins have contributed to the team's success. Clearly some wins factor in to a team's success more than others. If a pitcher wins on a tuesday, its not nearly as important as a sunday win because of the upcoming flight. To build team morale, a key component of scoring runs, you need a pitcher to win more on sundays and thursdays because of the subsequent run manufacturing that follows in the next pitcher's start. Obviously, if a win occurs without any walks by the pitcher's team's hitters, this is beneficial because stolen bases are critical to generating more home runs due to the pitcher's lack of focus on the hitter. Thus, Scott Posednik should be MVP since Jon Garland's wins are directly attirbutable to Scott's stolen bases and Garland's wins on Wednesdays have straigtened out Freddy Garcia and Contreras. Now send me a check for $200,000.
  20. He never learned the strike zone. Very few hitters learn the strike zone in the majors.
  21. They moved from Binions to another hotel for the first rounds and divided the crowd into three flights - so only a third are playing each day until they get down to 2000 or so. Today is the third and last flight. A lot of big names are out already.
  22. Baby comes early so contrary to prior reports, Mike is back in Vegas. Not sure where and when he is actually playing and he may be out for all I know.
  23. colorado didn't want day, they wanted to get rid of wilson's salary.
  24. This is the case. The Rockies will deal Wilson. If you sit and wait until the end of July you can probably get him for nothing - which is what he is worth in a trade. I also get the feeling the Rockies did not view Barmes's injury very highly from a personal standpoint and wouldn't mind sending him a message that he is expendable.
  25. yea, that's fine. my internet at home isn't working so I may be slow to respond. boy, this sucks. I hate this team.
