  1. I thought they take an excellent take on prospect lists by analyzing players under 25, thereby including those in the majors already. Incidentally, the Cubs pitching ranks number 1 in projected VORP. See Oakland A's - actually this is a pretty interesting article - especially for those of you that think BP and Moneyball were all written by Billy Beane.
  2. Fernando? Round robin in each pool. Two wins advances to the next round. I see cool! Thanks! not necessarily. you could have three teams go 2-1, in which case one of them goes home. the top two advance.
  3. we will likely be getting this off the ground next week - anyone interested go ahead and post here.
  4. spring training has started! You do need a vacation!
  5. Well, your only exceptional offensive players at their positions are A-rod and Bonds if hes healthy and age doesn't catch up to him. On my first team Helton, Figgins, Wright, Abreu, and possibly Lopez could be considered top 5 at their respective positions, and my other players are pretty well rounded. On my second team the same can be said of Pujols, Figgins, and possibly Berkman and Lopez, with more power than my first team but less speed. Pitching wise you probably beat both my staffs. Almost everyone expects Carpenter to regress somewhat but he'll still be good, and Peavy is a stud. Your relief pitching is somewhat shaky, relying on two guys who were hurt last year, though I do expect Gagne, if healthy, to dominate. You also get more wins from your other pitchers. The top two on my first team are very injury prone but could be dang good if healthy. On my second team I think Oswalt and Big Z could be just as good as Carpenter and Peavy. Relief wise on my teams, I tried to get one young reliable guy, one guy who could be good if healthy (Benitez, like you), and one young unknown. All in all, while I might be a little biased, I feel both my teams are more well rounded than yours. I think both of my offenses beat your offense hands down, while your pitching staff edges mine, but not by as large of a gap as the offense. Hence, the "I think both my teams could take yours" quote. Have you looked at Helton's #s from last season. He didn't even start on anyone's team in our league the second half of last season. Wow, he had a great second half. Whoever had him and didn't start him is not too smart.
  6. why the anti-Belushi crusade? The guy is from Chicago - so he isn't a real fan because you never knew it before 2003? That's preposterous.
  7. I wouldn't count on winning one of those - not saying they can't or won't - just that losing both is a possibility. They better win the Purdue game because Michigan will be tough.
  8. someone please change the thread title. I almost threw up my lunch.
  9. They need to get something in the 7th inning. Whether it is audio of harry doing it, or ex-players... but the celebrities don't work. Granted, it is part of the experience of going to a game there, and it should always continue. I like Santo doing more of it. Jeff Gordon and Ozzie have no place in that ballpark. I would like them to stay with ex-cubs, prominent chicago figures, or celebrity cubs fans (for the love of god, jim beluschi is not a cubs fan... however billy corgan is a good example of a celebrity who should be allowed to sing once a year). What makes you say that? In my book his having "Taking Care of Business" center around the Cubs winning the World Series wins him lifetime honorary Cub fan status even if he isn't a true hardcore fan. However, everything I have ever seen about him seems to indicate he really is a fan. He is from Wheaton. I like the singing - hate the interview.
  10. ?? btw, everyone is now paid - thank you! may the best man win, and if I can't win, then let someone else.
  11. lol, as opposed to the high alpine environment of wisconsin . . .
  12. I know what it means.
  13. yes, cbssportsline does and has great flexibility in setting up your league. the cost is about $10 a team. We have an existing league there that is entering its fifth year.
  14. wow, that was awesome. interesting that he is good friends with Shani Davis. Kind of falls in line with what I think about Davis and Hedrick.
  15. or did they let him through? I'm about to watch the final.
  16. I'm very happy for him - he seems like the most likeable of all the US olympians (that have been shown at least). He looks genuinely thrilled crossing the line. He's a really great guy. My mom met him 4 years ago at a post-Oscar party and he let her and her co-workers touch his Olympic medal and was nice to everyone. He seems very nice and very mature. He got very lucky though - the poor guy who had been second in the semi really got screwed. he didn't get dqed but the move that led to the DQ took him out of the race.
  17. I don't see any real reason to set a time limit - I have a few ideas actually, which I will propose shortly when I have a little more time. Basically, I am thinking more of a salary cap than a set number of keepers.

  19. yes, dusty has proposed going with a 4 2b lineup - like a 3 guard lineup in basketball.
  20. joe - welcome to the forum. if you can get someone to argue that lee has been a better player over his career, walk away - that person is not rational.
  21. sorry, you have to have premium to search I guess.
  22. search is working I believe.
  23. if others are interested, I may be willing to set one up. Post here or pm me.
  24. This could be bad or good. Nah.....that's too negative even for me  I think Jon meant it in a positive way. Yeah. I believe I read the other day that Rothschild was impressed with how well Miller has been doing. He said that he could probably throw off the mound right now but they're going to stick with the conservative plan. Probably a bit of an exaggeration, but as of right now, it's looking rather optimistic for the pitching staff. the other question will be how effective each will be?
  25. except for your relievers, I like your team Jaxx.
