  1. Here is what I'd do. Just shut Lee down for the rest of the season. Start working in Murton in at first base. Call up Pie in Sept and give him some starts in LF. You get to see a preview of Pie withouth costing Murton some at bats. If you decide to pursue as a big time LF in free agency then Murton becomes valuable as a LF/1B swing guy. my 2 cents.
  2. I'm not saying that pressure doesn't have an effect, but he's producing almost exactly at his PECOTA projection, and that projection took last season into account - in fact, it weighted it more heavily than any other season. I think the fans would have been forgiving this year if he were in the 7 or 8 spot, where he should have been all along. And his speed would actually be useful at those spots in the order. Hendry sold Patterson when his value was at rock bottom. It would have been better to have held onto him even if he were going to be the fourth outfielder. And Hendry has a history of doing things like this. Juan Cruz was ranked higher than Carlos Zambrano and, at one time, Mark Prior, but Hendry held onto him too long and ended up getting Andy Pratt. All that to say goony's point is valid. Corey is actually producing at a level above what he is being paid, and Jacque/Juan are producing at a level below what they're being paid. And we gave up Ricky Nolasco, who would have been the Cubs 3rd best starting pitcher this year. The two pitchers directly above him in VORP rankings are Mark Buehrle and Javier Vazquez. And he's making league minimum. Awful, awful decisions in the offseason. spot on..... good post. Lets say you have a stock thats dogging....it has hit rock bottom and you are 99% sure it can't go any lower..do you sell that stock..or keep it for just a little bit longer...hoping to get more for it...most folks choose the latter.
  3. if this team was to actually make it to 500 that would be the worst case scenario. Baker gets an extension because he fought thru adversity and drove a team strong thru the second half. I'm gonna be sick
  4. I just hope he isn't the next Brooks Kiechsnek(sp?)
  5. can someone please shut Phil Rodgers up. Thanks
  6. no, it was "donuts to mouth."
  7. wow..what this kid did today was huge. simply amazing.
  8. The truth is more severe than this, as we all know. Neyer almost seems to suggest Dusty is merely an enabler and not the guy who said "walks clog bases". Nonetheless, Neyer is absolutely spot on when he implies the Cubs problems will not go away when they get a new manager. Subtract Baker..... and these 4 players Henry Blanco .300 Freddie Bynum .289 Ronny Cedeno .276 Nefi Perez .268 well maybe keep Cedeno and see if he can improve his OBP..and its a start to making the problems go away..IMO
  9. wow..8 innings of shut out ball by O'Malley. have the Astros been taking hitting advice from Gene Clines?
  10. lets see where the problems are.... The good Ryan Theirot .448 (not enough sample size though) Michael Barret .389 Derrek Lee .375 Matt Murton .361 Aramis Ramirez .344 The bad Juan Pierre .328 Angal Pagan .327 Jacque Jones .315 Phil Neven .314 John Maybry .314 Cesar Izturis .314 The Ugly Henry Blanco .300 Freddie Bynum .289 Ronny Cedeno .276 Nefi Perez .268
  11. I think you need an ultimate blend of OBP and Slugging. Just because you have the best OBP won't make you a good team...but if you have the worst OBP and by a wide margin...you are gonna be in a world of hurt.

  13. Has anyone read Hendry's latest book..its a counter to MoneyBall http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/4448/jhje2.jpg
  14. I'm not complaining about pulling Mateo. Dusty's main gaff was leaving Weurtz in too long. It was obvious that he simply didn't have it last night. The Cubs probably should have lost last night thanks to Dusty..yet he gets bailed out by the guy he hates..Murton. The irony.
  15. Matt Murton pretty much single handly won the game last night. He keeps that crap up and not only will he ride the bench more..he just might get sent down to Iowa.
  16. Sign Jason Schmidt Adam Eaton Re-sign Pierre (what other options do we have at this point....Dave Roberts..thats about it)
  17. whoa..whoa..whoa...a ninth inning comeback in a meaningless August game is NOT WORTH a Tom Petty "I won't back down" sound clip!
  18. Pagan would have hit a 2-run homer there. plus Pagan doesn't have red hair.
  19. plus...his last name is DeJesus..think of all the Big Lebowski references we could make :D http://www.werner.com.ar/uploaded_images/jesus_quintana-758448.jpg
  20. Don't blame Weurtz..blame Dusty who kept him in the game. What do you mean by kept him in the game? He faced what, three batters? It's not Dusty's fault that Wuertz couldn't get people out. after the Ausmus walk I stated Dusty needed to pull Weurtz..I knew he wouldn't get out of the inning. That isn't 2nd guessing..thats 1st guessing. Sometimes you can tell when a guy doesn't have it. Weurtz isn't that bad..but tonight he was simiply not affective. Its baseball..its happens..good managers realize it...bad ones sit in the dugout..suck a toothpick..and pray for the best.
  21. Don't blame Weurtz..blame Dusty who kept him in the game. I think Dustbag is tossing games at this point.
  22. well if we don't come back I'm pinning this loss on Dusty. Plain and simple.
