  1. But since you're under 50 percent to make a 2 point conversion (and presumably they are as well) you're going to go to OT more often. It isn't a horrible move to go for 2 but I don't see why it makes sense.
  2. Not likely at all. There likely won't be a ton of 2 loss teams in the poll next week and Illinois is well behind several 2 loss teams in the national perception even with a win against MSU.
  3. I think those two games will push TCU over Boise St in the BCS. I'm not sure about that. Boise State has a big game left as well against Nevada and the WAC is right there with the MWC this year. Plus Boise is getting all the headlines and it's really hard for teams in the top 5 to jump each other this late in the year unless somebody loses.
  4. What a horrific call by the Cardinals right there. Just keep playing back and force the Saints to drain most of the clock. Instead they come with a 7 man blitz and the Saints throw the 43 yard TD with 1:49 left. The Cardinals still got the onside kick so they'll likely escape but that could have turned ugly for them.
  5. Not unless they lose a lot of #1 votes no. Their computer rankings should be ok as teams lose around them and the schedules for the minor conference teams continue to get worse. If it got to be a point where Ohio State was a close #1 over an undefeated Oregon at 2 and an undefeated Oklahoma at 3 where there were lots of mixed ballots on which order those 3 teams were in then it's possible.
  6. That doesn't sound right. 6/7 while being #2 in the human polls (now #1 probably)? It's true. The simulations had them 6th because of a bad computer average. But that's just a function of the computers not having shook themselves out yet and OSU having a particularly poor schedule so far this year. Several of the teams who were ahead of them in those rankings where OSU is poor in (Kansas State, Alabama, Michigan, UCLA) have already lost and more might tonight so they'll continue to slide up fast. It's also partly because the teams behind them (Oklahoma, Boise St, TCU) the computers really like right now and Oregon the computers at least have as a decent bit better than OSU.
  7. I'm not sure either of those things will happen. Hill is probably the more likely one to happen but the Cubs might decide to go to Castillo just to save a few hundred thousand with as tight as this offseason's budget might get. And Hendry has repeatedly said how much he loves how these young bullpen arms have stepped up at the end of the season. He might not add a veteran arm especially an expensive one.
  8. So the Seahawks have traded for LenDale White, Leon Washington, and Marshawn Lynch all in the last 6 months (and have signed Michael Robinson). Am I missing anybody?
  9. Wilken like many in the organization is fiercely loyal to Hendry and people are certain that he'd quit as soon as Hendry was fired. Huh, I had no idea. So it's assumed that firing Hendry would essentially result in an effective cleaning house of the front office regardless if anyone else is fired? I believe that yes that is the assumption.
  10. Wilken like many in the organization is fiercely loyal to Hendry and people are certain that he'd quit as soon as Hendry was fired.
  11. For Ricketts the reason seems to be that they don't want to lose Wilken. It seems like they think Hendry has done OK but that the scouting/development is the best it's ever been and it's not worth it to replace the GM and lose that farm system.
  12. Aside from consistently starting Hill over Castillo, what has Quade done to make you think he isn't a good manager? i didn't care for the "castro is being dumb so we're going to pull him out of the lineup and make him watch games" bit. He was also injured at the time. What was he hurt with? I don't remember him being hurt at that point. He got hurt a few days after that with the collision with Wallace and missed a few more games.
  13. I don't really see the scenario for Ramirez getting traded. He would have to exercise his option. Then the Cubs would have to find a trade partner. Ramirez would then have to agree. Plus his option for 2012 vests with a trade. That's a lot of variables and there's no real sense to all of them happening. If there's lots of interest in him, then he'll opt out. If there isn't, then there won't be a trade partner. If there is interest in him but he really wants to stay in Chicago, then he won't approve a trade. So how does he get traded?
  14. Maybe. But I haven't seen any real evidence of them being worse. Their games against Jacksonville have always been ridiculously tight even when the Jaguars have been bad. Houston has been outplaying them for years and the Colts have had some miracle finishes to beat them. It's not shocking that the Colts could lose both of the road games against those two.
  15. Horrible coaching call. It would have been one thing if it was 2nd and 9 or 2nd and 10 (and even then it was questionable with how little time was left on the clock). But on 2nd and 2 there is no reason to call timeouts hoping you get the ball back. It's especially egregious when there's a kicker like Scobee on the other side who has that huge leg.
  16. What's showing on ESPN2 on your market? The map has that game on in your area...at least on SD if not HD as well. Washington @ USC on ESPN2, Notre Dame @ Boston College on ABC That's strange. I had heard that it was supposed to be USC-Washington on the ESPN2 HD feed but Stanford-Oregon on the ESPN2 SD feed. Stanford-Oregon was supposed to be available somewhere in every home in the country.

  18. Fukudome has the strangest career month splits I think I have ever seen for someone who has over 1500 PA's already. He has 2 months with an OPS over .830 (including a .973!) and two months that are below .630. That's pretty hard to do. That's not a knock on him but it's fascinating trivia.
  19. Garcon not even making the trip last week is a bad sign IMO. With another road game this week I could see them holding him out until next week. You said you needed to do this to swap out your defense. Is the defense you have now somebody you really want to hold on to?
  20. Z's ERA is probably inflated a little this year though because he was able to get his entire regular 1-2 month hot streak in but both his slightly colder periods were broken up by the move to the bullpen and the suspension before he could throw enough innings to sink his ERA like had happened in previous years. They were bad moves for the team but they probably ended up helping Z's overall numbers.
  21. I think he was saying a return to an ERA around 3 is unlikely not an ERA anywhere in the 3's. Doesn't WAR not include Zambrano's contributions with the bat though?
  22. I'm surprised that Iowa would be showing USC/Washington on ESPN 2 over the ND/BC game. I'm not surprised at all that ABC chose the Stanford game for just over half the country. For those who are getting the ND game in the Midwest and East, it looks like the Stanford-Oregon game should be on ESPN2 which bumps USC-Washington in those areas. You can tell him that the game will be on ESPN3.
  23. USC-UCLA?! Really? It's a huge deal out west. Way bigger deal than Knicks-Heats is...anywhere. Yeah, I can probably name 5-10 teams in the NBA that have bigger rivalries with the Knicks than the Heat. Hell, the Bulls probably have more of a rivalry with the Knicks than the Heat do. Yeah, the Knicks-Heat was one of those 10 year rivalries. It was maybe one of the best 5 rivalries in sports when it was incredibly heated but when the Knicks tanked any interest in the rivalry went away. It's kind of like the Colts-Patriots rivalry right now. That's still incredibly heated (not quite as much on the national stage as it was 3-4 years ago but still pretty big) but I just am not sure about the staying power once the key people leave the stage (Belichick, Brady, and Manning).
  24. Tonight? Rodgers wasn't even close to a perfect passer rating. His rating was 92 something tonight.
  25. I'm just throwing it out there now because it has become a serious problem in the past with Bears fans calling for suspensions/bannings for invading their thread. To both sides: please be respectful and know this is a big game for both sides with lots of emotion involved. Let's make it about the teams and not about each other.
