  1. DC United thought they had tied it, it's waved off, and Carr comes back down to give the Fire a 2-0 lead! Now some punches thrown and at least one red card given. Ugh, one of which is Armas. 10 vs. 10 the rest of the way.
  2. I joined the group as Illegal Motion Moses. By the way, this makes perfect sense for my first fantasy league ever. I refuse to root for anyone who wasn't on my favorite team (aside from ex-Northwestern players), so this is great.
  3. Hmm. That does look pretty good. I'm going to have to think about it. This is also worth posting: http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/College-Football-R.article.jpg
  4. Northwestern hosts I-AA power New Hampshire this Saturday at 1 PM central. It's their first non I-A game since they played Princeton in 1986. It won't be on TV and while the forecast right now doesn't look great, come on up if you have the afternoon free to see the home opener for $30/$20 endzone. They'll honor Coach Walk throughout the game and New Hampshire will give NU's improved secondary a look at a very solid QB/WR combo. Plus, it'll be interesting to see their newly implemented 3-4 and 3-3-5 defensive sets in person. Hopefully Heinz will be ready to go and Sutton's ankle is 100%. Either way, it's going to be fun watching Kafka do his thing. I'd imagine McGee will start to open up the offense just a tad.
  5. I have nothing to contribute right now other than saying that I picked up an A-Train jersey at Let's Tailgate today for $10 to wear to games. The thing is huge on me (and it's only a large), but should be good to wear over a jacket. And I'll try to remove the name plate and turn it into a Todd Johnson jersey.
  6. Just watched the Fire game. A bit too sloppy towards the end, but a solid win. They remain in 2nd place and open up a 4 point lead. If they can get by DC United on Wednesday night, they'll host the USOC championship game.
  7. What's with the ESPN on ABC stuff now with the ESPN microphones and overlay? Duke joins Colorado as being beaten by a I-AA school. And Duke was shutout at home.
  8. Haynes' career with the Bears is officially over.
  9. Was I the only one not aware of this? . The UT/UNT game is on channel 3 here and the Utah/UCLA game will be on CSNC this evening.
  10. Kafka did well for his first game and Jordan had a nice return. Sutton wasn't 100% and didn't get many carries, but still averaged 5 yards a carry or so. He also caught a 19-yard TD pass. If they use him to run some routes from time to time, that should help spread out the LBers and give Kafka more room to run. They missed Kim Thompson, though. Bacher may or may not have a fractured leg. Brewer will probably see time in the slot come Big Ten season. The defense did pretty well. Cole didn't have a great game, but the 3-4 and 3-3-5 worked well.
  11. Sorry. Video from opening weeks only. Don't make me lock this.
  12. In honor of opening week: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5hUtEN8tu3g
  13. Very strange game tonight, full of non-calls and makeup calls. But the Fire escape with a 2-2 tie. NY and KC tied, though.
  14. TWO HANDS, PLEASE. How the heck can you give up the go-ahead goal from the half line...
  15. While the best case scenario is Pierre staying, being offered arbitration, gets classified as a Type A, and turns it down to sign with another team, a trade would most likely mean that Hendry is not going to pursue a new contract for him. From a fan perspective, it would be a little more comforting for the latter to happen going into the offseason.
  16. Not at all? I have a friend who is a Purdue fan and he has bought a game and watched it on his computer before. Is that possible this week? Also to anybody that knows, are games available PPV this year individually or do you need to buy a whole weekend package like last year for like $14? Looks like the week is the cheapest option for ESPN Gameplan online at $22. Sadly, it doesn't start until Saturday. No Thursday games.
  17. Not only is Herron leaving the team for four games in order to play with the Costa Rican national team, but Chad Barrett may miss the rest of the season with a broken bone in his foot. Hopefully Rolfe can make it back by this weekend. The Fire close out the month tonight with a match against the Dynamo at Toyota Park. Gametime is set for 8 PM central and it will be on CSNC.
  18. He's been all or nothing. He's shown he belongs with about 5 very good outings in a row after his rough debut, but it's been down hill since.
  19. Isnt this in addtion to what is in effect? Booth review will go on as it did last year but if a play isnt being reviewed the coach can request it. Many times last year a coach would have to call a timeout to get a play reviewed and if it waw overturned they still lost the TO. Yeah, last year's booth challenge system will remain in effect. It may be hard to use the challenge effectively this year, though, because of the clock changes. With the clock starting immediately after a turnover, they may not have enough time to see a replay upstairs and tell the coach to throw the flag.
  20. The NCAA will allow coaches to make one challenge per game this season. If the ruling is upheld, a timeout will be charged.
  21. ESPN is just giving the public what they want. :D Yeah, who'd want to watch a game with an actual storyline. Ugh. Apparently Thompson is going to be out 4-6 weeks now. These were both very recent injuries. And would it kill ESPN Classic to replay the game in the middle of the night instead of the ones that are being show on ESPN and ESPN2?
  22. The injuries are already starting up for Northwestern. Both Thompson (foot) and Ngene (knee injury, no idea how long he'll be out) will miss the opener. But mostly I'm just pissed at ESPN for putting the game on ESPNU, which is unavailable to just about everyone. Kafka will get the start at QB, which is a good choice. Brewer will likely see some time in the slot. He's one heck of a runner, but Kafka is no slouch, either.

  24. He came to camp out of shape. I see. Thanks Raisin. :) To be fair, he's come on strong at Boise and has worked well with the pitching coach there (David Rosario) to the adjustments he has needed to. I'm sure the Cubs wish he was at Peoria instead but he's had a solid season. Well, if its not too late, maybe its time to give him one start at the Low-A level ala Gallagher in Daytona last year. Pawelek's out-of-shapeness led to him having an ineffective June going 0-3, 5.06 with 7 Ks and 6 BBs in 10.1 innings. But since the calender turned to July, it has been a different story. In 9 starts (and 11 appearances) Mark is 3-2 with a 1.79 ERA. In 45.1 IP, he has given up just 34 hits while striking out 40 and walking 17. He's been fairly consistent over the last two months. What harm would there be in that? Well, Boise is hopefully on their way to the playoffs. Not only that, but his next start will likely be a home game, meaning that video will be available through BoiseHawks.com. And I want to see him at least once more before the end of the year, especially now that he's doing well.
