  1. Oh? When do the Cubs play the Pirates next? Well, the Cards better get their wins against the Pirates this week, because it'll be another Cubs 3 games, Cards ) this weekend. You really think the Cubs are going to sweep, again? In a park they have never played in before? I wouldn't bet on that. In two of the games at Wrigley, the Cubs needed the Cards bullpen to blow it late. I wouldn't bank on that again. I'm looking forward to it.
  2. No one's posting "Go Pirates" on cards Talk. Beat it Is that right? I wouldn't know...I don't post on Cards Talk. Sorry for the disruption.
  3. You can troll elsewhere. Sorry....just having fun. Isn't that what this ----> means?
  4. Oh? When do the Cubs play the Pirates next?
  5. I'll be watching on MLB.tv tonight....which rocks. GO DODGERS!!!
  6. You know, if you say it enough...it might come true.
  7. I'm going. Standing room. So I'll be all over. I park a few blocks from the stadium on Broadway (between Busch and the Dome) at a garage that costs $1 per hour with an $8 max. It's not the closest spot, but it's cheap. To find out what the view from your seat is like, go here: http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stl/ballpark/index.jsp I hardly ever buy a beer at a sporting event...it's just too much money. I'll go to a bar beforehand and have a few, but that's about it. The Cubs are going down.
  8. Didn't you already post this in another thread? Are you posting it again because nobody laughed the first time?
  9. Actually, I think you could. If there's language in a contract saying you can't do certian things, and a player gets hurt doing that, then I don't think they're liable for some money There you go. And if it's been an issue in the past with the Sox, then they should have something in his contract. If they don't, then it's their own fault. There's also the issue of not having your best pitcher playing. It's not just money. And I'm not so sure that would fly by the union. If putting that type of language in the contract, I'm assuming it would have to be an option to void the contract, not just not pay him. Yeah. I think you could terminate the deal. The Yankees have a team policy that they can terminate your deal if you inflict injury upon yourself by intentionally striking any hard surface with any part of your body, from when Kevin Brown punched a wall in 2004 The Yankees also got out of Boone's contract when he hurt himself playing basketball in the offseason. If I remember correctly, he wasn't supposed to play basketball, according to his contract.
  10. Or MLB.TV. I love it. I get to watch whatever games I want to. Well, except Giants and A's games because they are blacked out locally. And the Sunday night game of the week. But other than that I get to watch anything. Whereas Mississippians and North Carolinians miss the Cubs/Reds games because they're too close to Cincinnati. You got lucky. Their blackout restrictions are completely ludicrous. then use a proxy I've heard that works.

  12. To be fair, it's more than just this generation. Pujols is one of the best hitters to come along in the history of baseball. If you look at the first five years of a career, there are something like two guys in the history of the game who have comparable numbers to Pujols. Will he keep it up? We'll have to wait and see. But he doesn't show any sign of slowing down. Indeed, but for now, he'll have to live with that one of the best of his generation qualifier. I'm not one to jump to conclusions, especially regarding guys who play for my favorite team's top rival. :P Pujols' arm is definately above average...but it's not the best in the league or anything. Maybe top 5 at best....that's just a guess. NL 1B 2005 Fielding Stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding?seasonType=2&sortOrder=true&split=79&groupId=8&season=2005&qualified=null&sortColumn=fieldingPct NL 1B 2006 Fielding Stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlbhist/stats/fielding?seasonType=2&sortOrder=true&split=79&groupId=8&season=2006&qualified=null&sortColumn=fieldingPct 2005 Notes: -- Pujols did lead the league for 1B in range factor. -- Pujols finished 4 thousandths of a point behind Lee in Fielding % (6 thousandths of a point behind the league leader Casey) -- Pujols had more errors though...14 compared to Lee's 6. However, last year was only Pujols' 2nd year at 1B. We'll see if he improves on that this year and in the future. And actually, Pujols' numbers his first couple seasons at 1B are similar to Lee's numbers early in his career. And after looking at the numbers...Helton is superior at 1B. Top 5 at best at his position you mean? Just double checking on that. I remember he played his share of OF and 3B, but wasn't sure how good his arm was. Yeah, sorry...top 5 at 1B. Just a guess off the top of my head though without really analyzing it. It's always best to analyze a player with your own eyes as opposed to stats. But it's impossible to watch everyone and see everything. So we rely on stats to fill in the blanks. You're right...in a lot of cases, stats never really tell the whole story. Yeah, poor Helton.
  13. I was hoping....but you just don't see three home runs in a game every day. Aside from Rolen, the rest of the team needs to chip in a bit more offensively.
  14. Put a clause in his contract that says if he hurts himself sliding on the tarp, he repays what he earned that year, and he doesn't get paid until he is healthy. Not sure if that is legal within the league and player's union agreement...just a thought.
  15. Can you say, "overanaylzed"? http://www.utexas.edu/student/utlc/class/fer/m305g/image287.gif It's just baseball.

  17. If you are determining positioning for discussion purposes, you'd use the tiebreaks. And besides, anytime the standings are printed, they should always include the tiebreaks. And as I check numerous sites...they all have them that way....the Cardinals in 3rd. edited: Nevemind...some sites have the Cards listed 3rd, some have them near the bottom. There doesn't seem to be any consistency.
  18. As far as fielding goes...Pujols has zero errors, Lee has committed two errors (most of any first baseman in the majors). In the interests of fairness, Lee has much, much better range at 1B than Pujols and has to deal with erratic throwing from Ramirez and Cedeno on a regular basis (which he deals with quite excellently). I don't think any 1B could ask for a better defensive 3B than Scott Rolen right now, ya know? Much, much better? I dunno about that. Lee is taller and has a longer reach...but I wouldn't say his range is THAT much better than Pujols'. If Lee wasn't in the NL, Pujols would challenge for a gold glove...he's a very good fielder. Usually though, if a poor throw isn't handled cleanly by the 1st baseman, the error usually goes to the person who threw the ball...not the first baseman. But I couldn't tell you on what types of plays Lee's errors came on this year. And you are correct. Rolen is solid at 3rd base...and Pujols does benefit from that.
  19. Asking people to sit or stand in the areas they bought tickets for doesn't make them Nazis. Seems to me like you're criticizing the ushers for doing their jobs. It was a lame attempt at a joke. I'll try and be bland and boring the next time...just for you.
  20. Fixed. Not quite. The Cardinals are technically in 3rd place. They own the season series (so far) between both Cincinnati and Milwaukee.
  21. Not so far. Both players are off to great starts, but Pujols currently leads Lee in Runs, Hits, HR, RBI, BB, OBP, SLG & OPS. As far as fielding goes...Pujols has zero errors, Lee has committed two errors (most of any first baseman in the majors). The only major stat Lee leads Pujols in, is BA (Lee's .353 to Pujols' .341) Right now... Pujols > Lee With that said, all of this doesn't mean that much, because both players are tearing it up and aren't that far apart in most of the stats.
  22. http://www.asos.com/images/inv/D/16/102/16015/Navy/image1l.jpg Eh...I'm not a fan.
  23. Oh yeah, how early? And what do you mean by "behind home plate?" Are you talking lower level, or what? I stood behind home plate, lower level, for a couple innings. You are at the back of the field level, directly behind home plate. But there are lots of good places to stand on the lower level. You can stand pretty much all the way down each line. There is also a tower with two levels in right field, to the right of the scoreboard (the left field one isn't finished yet). It's up high, but it's a nice place to stand for an inning or two if you like being up higher. Cool, thanks for the advice! No prob. And as far as how early...I'm not sure. I tried moving behind home plate in standing room after the first inning. It was pretty crowded back there. But squeezing in wasn't difficult. Just watch out for the usher nazis. If you're not behind the lines designated for SRO...you'll be told to get behind the lines. I am assuming if you get there 30 minutes or so before game time, you should be able to get a sweet spot behind home place somewhere.
  24. His dad or uncle is apparently a big deal in broadcasting...or something like that. He got his gig with the Blues & Cards because of his name.
  25. He doesn't seem to have a lot going on upstairs, that's how. How so?
