That wouldn't be a very fair comparison. The ESPN2 option is always going to get hammered by the mothership option. Fine, NBC and ESPN. The channels are irrelevant. No one cares about women's soccer-at all- unless it's a major international tournament. Not so with the USMNT. I don't know if you're in an unbiased place about this though. Neither I, nor anyone I work with had any idea, for example, that the US Men weren't in the Olympics until after the games started. It was total news to us. Among soccer enthusiasts, you may well be right....the interest in the US men is probably much, much higher. But I'm not sure that's true among the general public. I think they're equally disinterested in non-major tourneys for both women and men. And with the women's success over the last couple of years (and the stars they've developed), I think it's closer than you may think.

Only in that we don't really have a replacement, and that if he's healthy and performing, there's no reason we shouldn't keep him.

Biggs points out that the Bears first 2 games are within 5 days of one another. Might at the very least make sense to skip the Colts game. He can come back for GB and then have 10 days before the STL game.

You're all over the place here, but most doctors would much rather treat via therapy rather than surgery. Often times they have to wait for a certain amount of swelling to go down before a surgery as well. None of us are doctors here.

I'll agree with the guy that sent in the email on one point though. For someone that's never really been into soccer at all, I've followed the women's team quite closely, both during last years World Cup and this years Olympics. The whole injury/fake injury factor is irrelevant to me.

Well I don't think it went down exactly like that. I think Cutler had some input though. And I think that while he'd love better O-line protection, that WR upgrades were more important to him. I think the Bears decided they were going to spend X resources on defense and X on offense. I don't think they could get the defensive player they wanted (whether or not you agree with the Mclellin pick) the receiver they wanted, and an impact O-lineman. I don't think Cutler specifically told them to completely ignore O-line. I don't understand why you think this is more Cutler than Tice. Cutler wanted help at any and all positions. That was clear. He's been unhappy with his receivers and line. Tice on the other hand has been specifically held up as the guy who could get the most out of second rate lineman and has specifically come out and supported these second rate lineman time and time again, until just this week. It's the coaching staff and management that has decided to ignore the line. Not Cutler. I find it difficult to believe that an O-line guy like Tice doesn't want better talent at that position. Ultimately it doesn't matter. Jay and Tice don't get ultimate decision making on drafting and free agency.

I think Cutler thinks with the right receivers and right play calls, he can overcome the weaknesses of the O-line. Bootlegs, moving pocket, short drops, and big receivers. I think Cutler thinks that with those elements, that the O-line can be addressed during this next offseason. I think he said "get me some big receivers, and I'll make do with the o-line". So Marshall and Jeffrey are the result. I'm not happy with not drafting O-line either, it's just the way I imagine the conversations went.

Personally, I think Cutler had more to do with not upgrading the O-line than Tice. I have no evidence to back this up, but I think Cutler has been asking for more weapons for a while. Back when Martz was hired, we know that Cutler was pushing to hire Bates. I think this year, the Bears decided that they really ought to give Cutler his way before negotiating an extension. He got a new OC, he got Bates, and he got Marshall. I'm also guessing he was pushing for more WR help in the draft rather than O-line. All just guesswork on my part, but it seems to me that it makes more sense than our O-line coach turned OC not wanting better O-linemen.

When did Sammy Sosa ever get demonized? He pretty much just faded into obscurity once he stopped being good. Sammy Sosa was loved by most of the fanbase until he started declining,a and then he did a few things that made it seem like he didn't care about the team. If Sammy Sosa became a hitting coach right now, he'd probably be treated the same as McGwire. Oh the media has definitely trashed Sammy, especially the Chicago media. Boomboxes in the clubhouse!!1!1! Sosa faded into obscurity because the limelight wasn't the fun kind anymore. -

I think Tice has proven in his time with the Bears that he's able to patch the crappy pieces he's been given into a somewhat serviceable O-line. It started off rocky, but over the course of the year, it approached average. Gotta be honest, if they can manage close to average this season, I'd be giddy. And right now, I'm still trusting Tice. He hasn't done anything that would make me doubt him......yet.

Mark Mcgwire was seen with andro in his locker, and then more recently admitted steroid use, but is still a respected hitting coach and has never EVER gotten the kind of public demonization that Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa have gotten. -
I think Williams over there is the best option. (Outside of having brought in outside help in the offseason, but that option is gone.) Everybody has said from day 1 that Carimi didn't have the mobility for LT.

Does Lovie not understand that there are world championships every year and lots of meets/competitions in the interim? He's a football coach, and is probably using this to motivate players. Reality doesn't fit the narrative here.
