  1. That's not the most exciting Pompei tweet. @danpompei Bears are expressing interest in Eric DeCosta of the Ravens for GM. EDIT: Unfair edit!!!
  2. Peyton Manning has a strong relationship with Jimmy Haslam? Why? Big ties to Tennessee. His brother is the Governor...his college roommate is a Senator...big donor to the athletic dept...was apparently on the board of directors for University of Tennessee Athletics.
  3. La Canfora talking about Gase back in August. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/24671695/broncos-oc-adam-gase-will-be-a-no-brainer-choice-for-head-coach-somewhere
  4. It was a bad game for everybody on the Bulls. Shots that they have been making in previous games weren't going in last night. It happens...move along.
  5. @MMehtaNYDN Rex Ryan has two interviews for head coaching jobs scheduled for next week, per sources. #nyj
  6. Bears also requested permission to speak with Bowles.
  7. and might hire Trestman. Perfect sad-sack team for him.
  8. I completely buy that people did not want to be involved in situations where you had to keep the head coach, or you had to use certain assistants. I do not buy that quality people are choosing to stay away from the Bears because of the presence of Ted Phillips. There has been no indication whatsoever that he is a meddler, that he has input on draft day or tries to go around people's backs. You read about that kind of nonsense with many teams out there, including Oakland, SF and to a lesser extent the Jets. Maybe it's not Ted Phillips personally, but just that they don't like the organizational structure where they would have someone to report to between themselves and the owner?
  9. Jags fire OC Jedd Fisch.
  10. @AdamHoge #Bears sign former Rutgers DE Jamil Merrell to reserve/futures contract. He was on their practice squad. @AdamHoge Kevin Turks (Pro Personnel), Marty Barrett (College Scouting) & Cliff Stein (Football Admin) are handling #Bears roster right now, I'm told.
  11. I definitely look at it as a combo of the two. Obviously nobody wants Phillips really doing anything in terms of team building, but the way some people talk about him (and Kenney) like he's the source of everything that goes wrong and that he needs to go or else nothing will really change is absurd. All that said, if it takes getting rid of him to get Decosta, do it.
  12. Hub said that a few times, and I'm not sure what he's implying...that he knows something about the McCaskey's that's illegal or scandalous? It's hyperbole. There's nothing to it. People just harbor boiling hatred him a la Crane Kenney and they can't wrap their meatball brains around the idea that anyone would want to hire him for anything. The comparison to Crane Kenney has gone through my head so many times the last few days...and I've wondered if Phillips is just "generic hateable executive" since it's obviously a fruitless exercise to hope that the McCaskey's would ever sell.

  14. RAM would be more like if David couldn't pat his head and rub his belly at the same time....only one or the other.
  15. A good way to make the Bears more interesting than the Jets is to pay Decosta a whole bunch of money.
  16. Well, Chicago has more offensive talent, and NY has more defensive talent, so I guess it depends on which way Decosta would rather build a team. And as much as Cutler gets [expletive] on, he's a whole helluva lot better QB than Geno Smith. Jets have more cap room, but really both teams have a nice amount of cap room to work with in 2015. But it's easy to see why the Jets might be more interesting to him.
  17. @DanGrazianoESPN Giants' VP of player evaluation Marc Ross may yet emerge as a GM candidate in Chicago, but as of now the Bears have not reached out.
  18. I refuse to give up on the Decosta fantasy yet.
  19. Right...definitely not a full list. Just the first names that have become public.
  20. what did Phillips do on draft day? Not Phillips, just the Bears... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/19/john-harbaugh-says-the-bears-werent-ethical-on-draft-day/
  21. I doubt they had a specific name in mind. I think they were thinking generally in terms of the types of guys that would require/be worth a change in structure, both coaches and GMs. And they were probably told by Accorsi that they should say something like that. My thought was that they have reportedly had some GM feelers out there leading up to these firings. Maybe they've identified Decosta as the guy they want to go after, and would make changes for, but hired Accorsi to look at other candidates in case they can't make that work. No real evidence, of course, that any of that is the case.
  22. I wonder if Decosta was specifically who they were referring to in the press conference yesterday when they said they were willing to consider a change in organizational structure for the right candidate? They interviewed him before, so they clearly understand his concerns.
  23. And I have Amazon gift cards from Xmas. Guess I know what I'm spending it on.
  24. I had no idea there was an app. Ok then, that's clearly the easiest way.
  25. Streaming is great if you're ok watching it on your own. If I wanna watch it in the living room with my wife, it's more challenging. My DVR failed to record the penultimate episode of Fargo so we ended up watching that one on the computer and I fail to see how it would be difficult to watch something like that together unless you are afraid of being near your wife. Not at all...but I'd rather be near my wife on the couch than back in the office with a couple office chairs pushed together. I could torrent it, and put it on a thumb drive, and watch it via the PS3...it's just a hassle. You are basically describing the Chromecast's killer use case. The PS3 is supposed to be able to be used that way, but streaming video from my PC over wireless ends up buffering a lot. I suppose maybe it'd work better on Chromecast. Cheap enough...maybe I'll give it a shot.
