  1. Prior was out in 2003 after collision with Marcus Giles...not a strain. Prior was out in 2004 due to an inflamed achilles tendon. Prior was out in 2005 because of a ball lined off his elbow causing a compression fracture...not a strain. He's now out with a shoulder strain, though that's apparently gone. 2 freak injuries, 2 "strains". Why can't the guy just learn to pitch with a compression fracture for pete's sake????
  2. Why can't they beat up on the division? @ GB is winnable, Detroit @ home is winnable, and playing in Minnesota in their coaches third game at the helm is winnable. The toughest game might be @ Detroit late in the year, but if they are out of it by then, that could be a pushover. I think they have a chance to be 3-0 heading into the Seattle game, they should be no worse than 2-1. They could be 5-1 heading into the bye week, without luck. Then they get the 49ers at home coming off the bye. Miami at home is tough, but winnable. The three straight road games is tough, but it's nice to have the Jets in the middle. I think they should be 6-5 or better heading into the week 13 matchup against Minnesota. Then it's a matter of finishing off that last stretch, with 3 home games, including against Tampa in the middle of December. My faulty memory again...I had it in my head that we'd gotten a lot of our division games done early in 05, but looking back at the schedule it was actually pretty well spread out. I really oughta research before my posts instead of after....heh... :P
  3. The division games are really loaded at the front and back ends this year. No beating up on the division early this year.
  4. If only we could get Dusty to commit to a lineup for a full week....
  5. I don't understand. I thought the whole point of why he never pitched in ST was that he wasn't hurt, they were just taking it slow and easy to try to keep him injury free....and now that he was injured, we decide to accelerate him? That just doesn't make sense to me.
  6. Hardball times has a nice articlethat tries to quantify catcher defense. Whether it successfully does that is certainly a matter to debate, but Barrett is neither listed amoung the best or the worst defensive catchers. I wish they showed the entire list, but he's probably closer to the average than anything else.
  7. Well we need a baserunner for Murton, and since Jones probably won't do it, we need Barrett to make up for his throw.
  8. Don't worry guys, Jones is leading off the next inning.
  9. Thanks for the description of that guys...hopefully it'll make the highlights of a Cubs win tonight... :)
  10. Dunn was leading off second, pickoff play, Dunn stumbles back over ther bag and nearly into CF. And we couldn't get him out? :?
  11. Heh...I mentioned that one in the Stu Scott thread in Rants...funny stuff.
  12. Who are the wolves? It's a game thread man. Well you should feel bad and he'll make sure that you do. So there. What Seth said. They are all around. Beware the wolves. If you're going to be upset every time a Cubs player gets criticized in the game threads this year, then they may not be a place you want to hang out. Just FYI. Because it's going to happen. Game threads are a very emotional place.
  13. Warming up in the Cubs bullpen..... a tee. Gotta be better than what we've seen today.
  14. After getting behind, the Cubs go down on 7 pitches last inning...I'm curious to see what Murton will do when he leads off next inning. He's shown patience at the plate that is uncharacteristic of the Cubs...
  15. alternatively, the cubs let glendon get about 60 seconds rest after a 30 pitch inning. Gotta keep him loose!!!
  16. This will be the first time that we're playing from behind this season....everyone gonna try to tie it up in one swing?
  17. This was all strategy. Let Arroyo sit for a while so he gets cold....
  18. I know Glendon had his issues last season, but did he really have a lot of "meltdowns"? Obviously he gave up runs, I just don't recall him getting shelled a lot... Of course my memory isn't always what I wish it was.
  19. Gonna need to score a bunch today.
  20. What happened? Freel squeaked a ball past Walker and Pierre came in to shallow right/center to pick it up. Freel was going two all the way, Pierre got the ball to second base on about four bounces. Thanks... :?
  21. I hope we can have these nice first innings each game.
