  1. Murton is being too aggressive again. Baker chatting with Pierre on the steps...."Look everyone! I'm being a manager and talking to Pierre!"
  2. 8,426 in Peoria last night...nice little crowd!
  3. Well I'm not gonna be wasting a whole lot more of my night on this crap tonight. I'll give it till the next stupid Cubs moment. I'm pretty sure it's coming soon.
  4. Sadly, yes. There are so many great GMs out there these days (how i wish we could find one) and it is a dog eat dog world. Schuerholz gets bumped down because of the loss of personnel, the limiting on the budget, and the performance of the team to date. The World has become what have you done for me lately. And Omar is the best GM because of one offseason? Sorry...I'm not buying. The Mets have gone through a lot of lean years, the one WS appearance not withstanding. The first 30 games of this season don't convince me.
  5. So it only takes 30 games after winning 13 straight division titles to lose the "Best GM" tag?
  6. I wonder if Soriano would be making nearly the money that he does if he'd come up with a different organization other than the Yankees.
  7. To get angry and mean or Patches O'Houlihan? Oh man...picturing Patches throwing wrenches at the Cubs. "If you can catch a wrench, you can catch a ball!"
  8. Are you predicting more shut-outs? I am.
  9. Really? Who? Teams like kc, pittsburgh, and detroit seem to always be in the market for guys like jones. There's probably a few other teams that can be added to the list. kc, pittsburgh and detroit would love a guy like Jones if his contract was almost up, because they like to shed commitment and payroll. Jones doesn't do that for them. They've got enough crappy players. They don't need more crappy players with long contracts.
  10. Bruce, there's a lot of talk on talk radio locally, on the ESPN Radio morning show today, and obviously here on the board today about Dusty's ability to lead this team successfully. Is there any sense that Dusty job might be in trouble?
  11. How about re-signing Burnitz for 1 year instead of Jones for 3? I think there was a lot of talk about Austin Kearns being available before the season. burnitz wouldn't make us any better this year. But on a one year deal we'd be free to make an upgrade and kick him to the curb. Instead we're tied down to a 3 yr deal with Jones. Why throw away crap to get new crap? I'm obviously not arguing that Burnitz was the best option. Just throwing out what the options were. perhaps, but the discussion is about improving the team for this year. i think there's a few teams that will take jones for 2 years. No the discussion is why the moves that Hendry and Baker made were the wrong moves.
  12. I'm not bbb or goony, but these are all names I'd prefer to Jones and/or Pierre. All of whom seem likely to have been available in the last year: Wilkerson Bradley Mench Kearns Dunn (I'm sure someone will say to drop this one) B. Giles (see: Dunn) Klesko Abreu Burrell Floyd Our very own Nomar Cliff Floyd Huff Shawn Green Luis Gonzalez Wily Mo Pena Coco Crisp Reggie Sanders And I'm sure more could be added. Alright soapy and bbb.. To get Wilkerson would have to had to give up someone of soriano's caliber & bowden loves sori type of player. Bradley - Colleti didn't want to deal w/ the Cubs and what stud prospect you giving up for him? Mench - Pretty sure there was a Mench for Walker rumor. abreu, burrell, floyd, huff, gonzo, green might be available at the deadline. i think az, ny and philly wanted to hang onto them in the offseason. hence they're still there. who knows what tb's doing. giles & dunn - riiight kearns - hendry's been negotiating with this forever. does cincy deal anyone? give up hill, i guess. nomar - at the expense of walker or cedeno? coco crisp - boston gave up marte. that's a lot. so give up pie? sanders - doesn't help us more than jones. If Hendry could have got ARod, we'd be in great shape ya know. Man...you got some good contacts to have all the inside info on this stuff. Colleti didn't watn to deal with the Cubs huh? And the rumor was that they were going to release Bradley, so I don't think it would've taken a stud to get him.
  13. I'll throw on my "Road to the Show" t-shirt when I get home. That puppy had some magic in it in '03.
  14. Nope. The Trib is the only one reporting the Theriot promotion. Anywhere else that reports it is using the Trib as a source.

  16. But his OBP is a blistering 328. He'll fit right in.
  17. Funny that the trib says he's hitting .309...he's actually hitting .282....the .309 is his SLG.
  18. Yeah...I don't know why people would complain after losing 6 straight games. Clearly Baker and Hendry have the NL right where they want them. the 6 game skid sucks, but they're 14-16 with prior, wood, lee and jwilliams out. it could be a lot worse. do you expect them to be tied w/ the cardinals? I expect them to be competing, absolutely. Maybe my standards are a bit higher than yours. There's only one injury so far that we've had to deal with unexpectedly, and that's Lee. Hendry and Baker had all offseason to prepare, and here we are. That's unacceptable to me. "It could be worse" does not console me.

  21. Yep. :D There's a thread on this in transactions. i didnt figure that out till you said it, sorry Quite alright! Was probably good info to post here in case someone didn't see it. Just was letting you know.
  22. While you're looking up stats, why don't you check his OBP?
  23. Yep. :D There's a thread on this in transactions.
