  1. Looks like "no" to the OF question.
  2. Doesn't sound interested in managing right now to me.... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/richard_deitsch/05/14/media.piniella/index.html
  3. It's more like the Captain of the Titanic surviving the wreck, and then asking him to Captain the next ship you're sending out to sea. Please note, the next ship will be built by the same guy that built the Titanic.
  4. Pretend Dusty gets fired. Pretend real hard...if all the boys and girls across the country wish it hard enough... Sorry, hijacking my own topic. The Cubs Reporter has a good article about the questions he would ask a prospective manager. I'm especially partial to the last one. But it got me thinking, if you were to interview candidates for the Cubs manager, what would you ask to ensure that the guy you were hiring was a guy that would lead this team to a WS? No fair asking ones that were in this article....:)
  5. If all of a stores employees love the store manager, but the store is poorly run and not competing with the other stores, do you think he'd keep his job? Do you think he should?? EDIT: Reading that article, only Williamson appears to actually defend Baker. Barrett even goes so far as to say they shouldn't blame anyone else, but that kind of skirts the issue of whether Baker is actually doing a good job.
  6. I'm not sure I agree. Barrett is the best offensive catcher in the NL right now. I'd hold on to him, but if trading him was part of a larger plan to rebuild this franchise, I wouldn't object. That's an excellent point. I included Barrett as part of the core because he's signed beyond this year, is not a drag on the team, and seems to be part of the team's plan. That doesn't mean he shouldn't be moved, but moving him isn't a priority. The only guy in the "core" that I'm not real keen on right now is Ramirez, but that's largely based on his recent play. If I try judging objectively, he's one of the real good 3rd baseman in the league and has solidified a position that's been a trouble spot for the Cubs for as long as I've been alive. Even still, I'm not real happy with him right now.

  8. He'll probably trade the wrong guys....probably start with Walker.
  9. was thinkin that also, we really dont need him if he continues playing like corey patterson did when he was here Man, about to be swept iin a season series against the Padres? I wonder when the last time the Cubs was swept in a season series? Pretty sure Len said it's never happened against an NL team.
  10. I would literally do the happy dance all though my house. It'd be nice if we had a meaningful off day.
  11. What about Koronka? According to BP's VORP stats, he'd be the second most valuable pitcher on the Cubs staff at this point. Why stick with the kids? Let's get Nomar back since we're going with do-overs. Although they were "clubhouse cancers," I wouldn't have minded keeping Alou and Farnsworth. Farns especially is a jerk, but Farns > Novoa. I've always liked Farns.
  12. Anyone think Pierre could get traded if we don't pull out of this? With Pie ready to come up, maybe they are just trying to get Pierre's value up a bit?

  14. Dusty was busy hunting for the toothpick he threw earlier... Vedder could have calmed him down before he took the mound. lol...I think Vedders brand of "calming down" Jae Kuk is agains the MLB drug policy.... :P
  15. Dusty was busy hunting for the toothpick he threw earlier... or hot dogs on the floor he'd have to overturn the spread for that to happen, and he doesn't do that.

  17. If Baker gets fired, but we never get back into it this year, would you still be interested? It would be interesting to see how the team responds, and what the fall out will be. It'll sure be more intersting than it has been. I agree. I'm pretty much not even caring about the losses. I really haven't since late last week...I'm willing to endure whatever it takes to get changes made. I hate talking to my Cardinal fan friends, and they are actually sympathetic, as they watch this team being mismanaged into the ground. I think they'd rather have it be competitive as well.

  19. So what was Santo saying? Implying Dusty should be fired?
