  1. It is difficult for GMs to do something this early in the season. Other teams know that can get better value the closer to the trade deadline they get. Hendry can ask all he wants right now and get nowhere. I understand that...I was thinking more in along the lines of any managerial changes.
  2. I'm not disputing this necessarily, but at what point does it become "flirting" with a no-no? I think both of them were broken up in the 6th inning. Just curious. :)
  3. I think it means you stood up once in the first place, then after that, you fall down and stand up 8 times, bringing your total falls to 8 and total stands to 9. But if that happens, you're just a klutz. If you were knocked down 8 times you are probably weak. Or really drunk no....not goony!
  4. I'll agree with that last sentence. I can't believe we aren't further out than we are. That said, I just don't want Hendry to wait until it's too late to do something. I'd rather he do something soon enough that a change can have a positive impact on THIS year...
  5. If Hendry was able to pull that off, I might just back away from my assertion that he needs to be fired... :P
  6. Think Marshall's value is high enough that he could be the centerpiece in a Miguel Cabrera trade?
  7. SPEED KILLS! In other news, Fire Jim Hendry.
  8. For one year instead of three. Nevermind, you don't want to hear it. For the 8 millionth time, the chances of Jones being on the Cubs for 3 years are very slim. For the 8 millionth time, how do you know that? This isn't MVP Baseball where you can trade anyone you want. Who will want to pay a crappy player 4 million? So if Hendry does trade him, the Cubs will likely be paying Jones to play for another team. Just like another recent RFer. Interesting. Only at the time that RFer signed his deal, he was playing well enough for him to be worth it.
  9. Wood was a rook in 2003? wow.. Sweet dude, he's only 24? Damn. That's pretty hilarious. I skimmed that article and missed that...
  10. For one year instead of three. Nevermind, you don't want to hear it. For the 8 millionth time, the chances of Jones being on the Cubs for 3 years are very slim unless he continues hitting the way he has lately. I look for Jones to be traded as soon as Pie is ready to play in the majors everyday. Who would want to take that contract? And if Pie was gonna be ready, why sign JJ to a 3 year deal? Whatever way you look at it, was the wrong move.
  11. Pretty sure it's been said before that while a manager will rarely win you games, he can lose you bunches. Hence much of the clamoring for Baker's dismissal.
  12. My guess is that he keeps "yapping" about it because the media keeps asking him about it. The same as they were grilling Sammy and Big Mac back in the day. I don't like Pujols because he's on the Cards, but I find it hard to get too upset at him for denying accusations. Good to finally see a Pujols thread in Rivalries. There was clearly a dearth of threads on the topic.
  13. I think I"ll hold off calling anything "prophetic" until we've beaten a team a little tougher than the Nats.
  14. Jason Bere mention...ugh...I'd completely forgotten about him and was happy about it...
  15. strained lower back. no word how serious?
  16. Um...ok I came in late here...what happened to A-Ram plz?
  17. I wonder if he can still hit a fastball. :)
  18. The seats had plenty of butts when Maddux wasn't here. the people that have the discretionary income are more likely to see a superstar and spend more at the game than a shcool teacher. If you had a choice of Maddux or Jerome Williams and you had that type of time and income I will save it for the Maddux game The Cubs are very close to selling out at the beginning of the season each year, at least for the popular dates. People aren't basing that on who the starter is that day, because there's no way to know who will be starting that day that far in advance. I'd say most people are buying tickets based on dates and the opponent rather than the starting pitcher. I think Derrek Lee probably brings in more attendance than Maddux.
  19. Nah...they'll pull him for a ph after 80 pitches and its his turn up. He threw 85 in Iowa, and since they've gradually been increasing his pitch count, he should be able to throw into the 90's.
  20. He hasn't really had much batting practice... I know...that's why I didn't say 2-4 with a double and a HR... :D
