  1. AB per position per baseball-reference.com 3B 483 1B 305 C 108 DH 65 LF 54 RF 38 OF 27 I'm assuming that you meant games per position? Yes, and if everyone will please take a cue from Mizzou in reading all of my posts as to what I mean instead of what I actually say, that would really be for the best... :P Yeah, Nevin hasn't caught much recently, but it's still going to be better to have him as an emergency catcher instead of Mabry...P

  3. The odds of them making the playoffs are less than 1 in 400 and have been dropping, not rising. I love the Cubs, and that's why I'm rooting against them right now. They will be destined for medicority (or worse) as long as the current management is in place. I really dont understand a Cub fan rooting aginst the cubs. I guess im the only one on nsbb that dosent root against them, not to say their isnt people on here who dont root against them but it seems like more and more people are rooting for this team to finish dead last. By the way I dont think Hendry is going to fire Baker during the season. In my opinion I think Dusty should get an extension. He brought the SF Giants to the 02 world series, and came 5 outs from bringing the cubs to the world series. Maybe if the players on the cubs could play to their potential we wouldnt be disscussing this. Does your boss judge you based on what you did 3 years ago, or what you did recently? I want the Cubs to win long term. If that means losing short term, then fine, lets do it and get it over with. Like pulling a band-aid.
  4. The way I read that, it seems like the 10% chance is that the Cubs will even be put on the table... EDIT: The Tribune itselfsays the Cubs aren't being sold:
  5. Great find! That's exactly what the original poster was asking. So if I'm understanding this correctly, when the number of games to avoid elimination exceeds the number of games left, we're eliminated...right?

  7. Actually the way the question was asked is this...if the Cubs win every game from here on out, the NL central still has to play each other a certain number of games. Which means that the NL central teams cannot possibly lose every game. Someone has to win a Cards-Stros game, for example. If you take that into account, and assume that the NL central teams will lose every game against another division, there has to be a number that will be an elimination point for the Cubs. I don't think we're near that yet, but this was brought up at the end of Murphy interviewing his Baseball Info Solutions buddy. It doesn't matter who plays what team and when. If all teams in the division play 500 ball overall from here on out, the Cubs only need to be 14 over 500 the rest of the way to win it. Where those wins come from does not matter. The likelihood of that happening is another story altogether. Yeah not sure where the .500 part of the question came in. I didn't hear that part mentioned when it was asked.

  9. Someone's been listening to Mike Murphy... :P
  10. They'd be idiots if they did trade him. But I want him on the Cubs, dammit. But according to ESPN page 2 he's the worst player in baseball!
  11. That's my thinking too. Nope. When a player wins, he gets to chose. I still think Barrett should drop the appeal if it isn't heard and serve it vs. AL Central teams from June 16-25. That's not correct. The only way to "chose" when to serve your suspension is to drop the appeal at a time that's convenient for you, but if you genuinely plan to appeal, your suspension, if it still exists, is served immediately.
  12. Bob Brenly? Larry Dierker? Didn't Brenly serve as a coach under Baker in San Fran? Could be...that's why I put question marks...I wasn't sure of their coaching background. Pretty sure Dierker had zero experience though. Not that one success story means that Karros would be a good manager or anything...
  13. Is there any reason that NY would want to trade A-rod? Or we just shooting for the moon here?
  14. That's a year old, and completely contradictory to the quotes that Cuban made in the Sun Times article. Anyway, it's a moot point if the Trib doesn't sell. Also it in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. True, but the first article I linked is in the Chicago Sun-Times, so they're both gonna be a bit biased toward their own city.

  16. http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay30.html He basically says if they go on sale, he's interested. But I liked this part... Here's a great quote too:
  17. I don't think Gammons is buying it. He's the only national voice with that opinion, though. Gammons for GM! :P I kid.
  18. I don't think Gammons is buying it.
  19. Would Gerry Hunsicker be interested? 3 words- Paul De Podesta the only currently available guy whose philosophy i agree with. give him 5 years to develop a farm system full of patient ballplayers and we'll be a perrenial contender. No way the Cubs would hire him though. Especially not after the high profile Dodgers experience. I just don't see it happening.
  20. It looks like he's just tiptoeing around this, not wanting to offend anyone...
