    So much for the notion that managers don't have a large impact...

    The more we keep winning, and the more I look at this team, the more I think I almost would rather the Cubs stand pat. I think some of the best moves the Cubs could make would be in free agency this coming winter rather than trading value away. The Cubs have some weak areas, but nothing that I would consider a "hole" outside of catcher, and I think the Kendall trade is the only move we're going to see there. The only way I'd make a move is if we could get an impact player for more than just a rental.

    Depends on how well you think Gallagher could do in Marshall's spot. Almost .200 OPS points is a MASSIVE improvement. We can't just look past that fact. I understand that...but is it worth the gamble that you'd be taking in putting a completely untested rookie pitcher into the rotation? I say no. But I understand both sides.

    Cubs CF: .247/.305/.409/.714 Cubs RF: .285/.354/.365/.720 Griffey: .271/.380/.521/.901 He'd definitely be an upgrade...but so much of an upgrade that he'd be worth losing a starting pitcher?

    Because a everyday player (if you can call Griffey that) that can help on a daily basis, not once every 5 days... OK, I'll play along. So you get Marshall for one of our starting five - who replaces him? Exactly, and it's not like we have a huge need for most of these players. We're doing quite well with what we have. I would love to make a big splashy move as much as the next guy, but not at the risk of screwing up what we have. I just don't see trading away one of our starters at this point.

    Maybe he's talking about him tracking balls into short right field. If we're going outside the box enough to trade for a 1B(Teixeira!) and move Lee to the OF, it might be a better allocation of resources just to trade Lee. His value to another team as a 1B is greater than his value to us as an OF because of his defense. He also has a large contract, and there's the thing about him not hitting for very much power. He'd make a great centerpiece for A-Rod if you had Teixeira in hand... I can't fathom Hendry having the guts to trade Lee.

    Why do people keep wanting to trade Marshall? I don't understand how subtracting from our starting staff makes us a better team.

    I'm not a Jacque fan. Never have been and probably never will be...but he's definitely coming through right now, and I'm happy to ride along with that. I don't think he's getting traded till the offseason now (just a hunch) so I'd like to see him do well the rest of the year.

    I'm afraid they'd treat him like Wade Miller though and hold on to him even if it's obvious he can't pitch anymore. The Cubs and "projects" scare me.

    Before Tillman got his chunk of change, I thought maybe the Bears might revisit a long term deal with Briggs after the season...but now I'm not so sure about that. Especially with Harris's extension coming up soon, and if for some reason Grossman does good next year his extension. I highly doubt they can keep Briggs past this year. That's what happens in football though, its really hard to keep a dominating unit in tact. Well as long as you keep Urlacher, you can change the outside backers...they've certainly done that before successfully.

    Before Tillman got his chunk of change, I thought maybe the Bears might revisit a long term deal with Briggs after the season...but now I'm not so sure about that.

    That's excellent news. When the deadline passed, I figured something would happen before TC started.

    Well we knew he was disabled...we were trying to figure out what his rehab status was.

    Really? Bipolar much? :P The team is going to lose some games...and the D-Backs always do well against the Cubs for some reason. Fortunately, especially recently, the Cubs have the Cardinals number. Lee is back, Dempster is back...this should be a good week.

    Wasn't Hendry also chasing Barrett for a while before he ended up getting him? Seems like Hendry gets tunnel vision sometimes. With Barrett it worked...with Conine..... :? And Kendall Was there a lot of conversation about Hendry wanting Kendall? I didn't hear it.

    The difference between the Cubs and the Brewers in this stretch is going to be how well they play on the road. Cubs on the road 24-22 Brewers on the road 19-26

    And to be fair, they weren't asking Kruk and Phillips if they WILL get in on the first ballot, they were asking if they SHOULD get in on the first ballot. I think those are two very different questions. I was more annoyed that there was ZERO discussion of Jeter, it was just "He's in...sure thing"...maybe so, but lets at least talk about it if that's the point of the segment.
