  1. With my overly giddy outlook regarding the Cubs this year, and my preseason enthusiasm for the Bears running at all time highs, I don't think it would be safe for me to be talking about both at the same time. Something might burst. It's okay, we call it "smiling". Well done :)
  2. We need to do a lot more football talk today, because I really don't want to have to spend my entire afternoon in the transactions forum...it makes my brain hurt to read all the craziness.
  3. Hmm...I've never seen Drew and Goony in the same place at the same time...hmmm.
  4. Even though Mahay is gone, Phil Rogers thinks the Cubs are still thinking about giving up Pie for Laird. That's just so ridiculous it's almost not worth mentioning.... http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2007/07/no-mahay-but-wh.html
  5. Discussion does not equal belief. :D I'll rephrase, people still waste time discussing these things? This deal is very lopsided and from a message board. Apparently the poster that posted this is the only one who heard this report I'm assuming. Crazy stuff gets posted the day or two before the deadline every year...it's what makes the deadline fun. The trades themselves usually turn out to be far less interesting...so might as well have fun.

  7. Not my first time. :)
  8. I was just coming to post this quote... The article is a "Rumor mill" article. This was a blurb that was all on it's own. No other context to be had.
  9. Who's out there to get that we won't get fleeced over? Griffey? Dunn? Renteria? Probably forgetting a few others. Julio Lugo, Ramon Hernandez, Torii Hunter... Yeah, the Cubs could probably get Hunter for nothing. Lugo? Seriously? That contract? And Lugo is starting to hit now. Boston won't be dealing him.
  10. I don't think anyone said that. But if Pie for Laird and Mahay are the kind of deals that are out there, then standing pat may not be the worst possibility.
  11. I didn't read the whole thread, but to me the Cardinals need to gain groudn on us, not the Brewers. The Brewers are sliding and I think the Cubs are the real team to chase here, and even when the Cards have been winning, they haven't gained ground on the Cubs.
  12. Yeah I'm not surprised. I figured they probably would do this. They probably think that Wood coming back is akin to a trade. And frankly aside from the Griffey/Dunn pipe dreams, there was a lot that was exciting out there.
  13. I've heard it said that Zambrano loves Hill as a catcher, and considering that since Barrett left, Zambrano has pitched magnificently, I'm sure they feel like carrying Hill on the team is a small price to pay if it keeps Zambrano happy. Of course that's all purely speculation.
  14. Reading both Philly message boards and Buffalo message boards, the word is that he's not very good against the run. However a few people have speculated that it is because Philly wants their tackles to beat their men and then go for the ball rather than just filling a gap. I've seen some people speculate that he's more suited for what Buffalo and Chicago do defensively than he was for Philly. Plus he's going to have Tommie next to him, so that can only help out.
  15. They weren't reluctant in the Garland-Karchner trade. But yeah, I'd be shocked if we got Dye.
  16. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7024980 Football Outsider's QB rankings. The Bears QB's are 25th. But there's some things that confuse me about the blurb on the Bears: Calling Grossman a five-year veteran with no further qualification is just flat out dumb. Grossman is essentially in his 2nd full season and should do a much better job this year. I think this whole analysis is at best flawed and at worst flat out wrong.
  17. The Trib says that Hesters drops were because of stiffness...
  18. Not to make excuses, but Dunn hasn't been on a team that has had much to play for in August and September either. And Griffey is almost always hurt toward the end of the season...in 3 years he has 31 AB's. That is true, but I don't think motivation is an adequate explanation. There have been plenty of players on awful teams that managed to finish their seasons strong. That's true...but I thought it was worth mentioning.
  19. I think the CHA CHA CHA portion of the chant is really what makes it work.

  22. It wasn't until I was listening to Buffone and Haugh earlier on the radio that I realized our safety depth...Brown and Archuleta (assuming he doesn't play as bad as he did for Washington) and then Harris and Manning, both of whom were our starters in the SB.
  23. It's a stark difference from Briggs huh? He's not really in the position Briggs was in to hold out anyway. I realize it's a different situation. Briggs was franchised too...he didn't already have an existing contract. Nonetheless, it seems like Walker is willing to do what's necessary to get on the field and play immediately. All that said, sooooo glad to have Briggs back.
  24. Most of the TV threads are in the Master Sticky as well. Anyone is welcome to PM me or any of the mods to add threads to that Master Sticky. I add them as I think about it, but honestly it's not something I always think about.
