  1. That's because those 50 points are always better, regardless of what the other teammates did. in a vacuum they are. but the goal of baseball is to score runs, not have the highest OPS Runs are team based. OPS is individual based. If you're trying to determine the best player, use OPS. If you're trying to determine the best team, use runs scored. I don't think that's a terribly controversial statement.
  2. i see what you did there i don't get it They keep changing their name. It's been the Angels for a long time now... :)
  3. Did Banedon mean Hendrys ability (able) to spend money or his ability (poor choices) to spend money? I thought the second. I meant that Hendry may not be given the go ahead to spend money.
  4. Comcast Sports Net mentioned that the Cubs may not be sold until after Opening Day because they haven't yet decided whether or not to package the team and Wrigley in the same deal. That's what Cuban implied on the radio that he was waiting for too...for them to decide exactly what they're selling. Here's an article expressing a similar opinion: http://www.chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/news.pl?id=26641&seenIt=1 Honestly I don't see how this can be a good thing...the team in limbo. It means Hendry is likely going nowhere for this next season, and I have no idea where that leaves Hendry in terms of his ability to spend money. EDIT: Wow are there some unflattering photos in that article.
  5. He shoulda GIDPed like Jeter did. Jeter used up all of his mana forcing ARod's blooper over the fence. He didn't have any potions left for his own at-bat. MLB finally fixed that unlimited mana hack that Jeter's been using then, eh?
  6. How much impact does a hitting coach have? I think they probably mean a whole lot more on a younger team.
  7. The owners of the Cards, Reds, Pirates, and Astros? We out spend them now, and will continue to do so no matter who owns the Cubs based on current contracts. That'd be a stupid reason. But if they feel like Cuban would put a better product on the field, they may not like that. The Cubs success directly influences their success. I don't know if they would actually vote on that basis, but it's what came to mind.
  8. Jenna...no contest.
  9. The owners of the Cards, Reds, Pirates, and Astros?
  10. Can A-Rod play 2b? :)
  11. At least A-Rod will provide a lot of entertainment in the regular season.
  12. Is this like last week when Lou said that Kendall would start down the stretch and then Soto started down the stretch? That Lou is sneaky.
  13. I really like/dislike Hart. I'm more afraid of him than Braun or Fielder. The Cubs seemed to handle those two ok. We never quite got a handle on Hart though. Sunglasses at Night should play every time he steps to the plate though. It should be mandatory at all ballparks.

  15. You made it 45 minutes longer than me.
  16. If Lilly pitches game 5, that'd be his normal rest because of the day off between games 4 and 5.
  17. We're gonna see Marquis tonight aren't we? *sigh*
  18. That reminds me. I forget which inning it was that Lee was on first and A-Ram struck out but the ball got away and Lee went to 2nd. A-Ram started to run to first but it looked like he was told by the home plate ump he was out. Why couldn't he advance on a dropped 3rd strike? Lee was on first. I think you can only take first if there was no runner on first when strike 3 was called. Duh...thanks...I knew I was missing something obvious.
  19. That reminds me. I forget which inning it was that Lee was on first and A-Ram struck out but the ball got away and Lee went to 2nd. A-Ram started to run to first but it looked like he was told by the home plate ump he was out. Why couldn't he advance on a dropped 3rd strike?
  20. Agreed, seemed everybody new he was going to be pulled. I respect "Z" bat as a pitcher, but a ph mentality was needed, it was a bit of a pressure situation for a pitcher. I'll go with that. Although Z actually hit the ball fairly well. It's not like he put up a bad AB. Bah, I'm just going to say you score 1 run in 9 innings you aren't going to win many of those games. I get that Z is a good hitter for a pitcher...and during the regular season, I'd probably not have a lot to say about it. But in the playoffs it's a different story. He's not batting against NL Central guys here...
  21. Didn't Z pitch the bottom of the 6th though? Yep...and if you pulled him then it'd have been after 5 and only about 65-70 pitches...that would have been way too soon... But so was pulling him after only one more inning. The point isn't what was too early, the point is did Lou know that Z was only going to be pitching one more inning. All indications are that yes, he knew ahead of time. So if that's the case, then why give up your best scoring opportunity with Z at the plate for one more inning of Z pitching? That's a bad tradeoff, especially when Webb was shutting us down.
  22. http://money.cnn.com/2007/10/03/news/newsmakers/mark_cuban.fortune/index.htm?cnn=yes It's unfortunate to hear that from Mark, even though it's not surprising. EDIT: This was pretty much the only Cubs mention in a very long article...it's at the very bottom.
  23. Yes! Lou managed a terrible game last night. He really did. I don't agree with pinch-hitting there. There were 2 outs. Still need a big 2-out hit. Webb had control issues in the inning, but I think it was more of a case of pitching around Derosa and Soto. Granted, I would have thrown Z 1 more inning, but I hate wasting PH w/ 2 outs. Chances to score aren't that great even w/ the bases loaded. What was gained by not PH'ing though? One more inning of Z? To me that's not worth it. If Lou had left Z in for another inning after that, I might feel differently.
  24. Are you being sarcastic? Honest question. Please say you are. He faced us once this year. He threw 6ip and allowed 1ER. Our lineup that day had Theriot, Kendall, and Monroe, and no Soriano.
  25. Didn't Z pitch the bottom of the 6th though? Yep. But if you are confident enough in your bullpen to pitch 3 innings, why not 4? That one inning of Z wasn't worth not getting runs agains Webb in that situation. If you want to keep Z in, that's fine, but keep him in longer than one more inning.
