    I don't think it would be as much as a disaster as some of you are making it out to be. For one, Steve Stone criticizes alot of the big contracts Hendry gives out. Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know 4 players = $80 of a years salary = bad. But it would be an improvement over Hendry. Just to see if I'm following. Hendry = spending lots of money on bad players Stone = still getting bad players, but spending less to do it I'll take none of the above, thanks. :)

    While that's good, I'd just prefere Stone not be involved in team decision making processes in any way at all. Exactly. That article doesn't make me feel any better. Color man replacing Bob if he gets a new managing gig would be the only way I'd want Stoney back, and even that's a stretch. Even then I'd prefer Bob stay.

    Well I know that Murton would be shipped out as fast as humanly possible. Stoney has some real venom aimed at Matt for some reason.

    Apparently if Chicago financier Lou Weisbach's group buys the Cubs, he would hire Steve Stone as GM according to Fred Mitchell of the Trib. Let me just say, I hate that idea. EDIT: Even more interesting is this blurb about Hendry...

    Thanks Bruce. Any idea whether Hendry is going to have the freedom to play the free agent game while the team is in ownership limbo?

    That's not even a real number. Should make it easier to pay. Pay a pretend amount with pretend money.

    Somewhere between moderate and detrimental. I don't let it keep me from doing my work, but it takes up just about 100% of my downtime.

    There's going to be a lot of disappointed people when Cuban isn't able to buy the Cubs. I include myself in that group.

    I hope to get in on the ground floor with this case after passing the bar. :D Me 2! I passed it and I wouldn't want anything to do with this case on any side. Talk about one that will drain the life from you. Holy Christ...how many lawyers we got on this site? I thought I was one of the only ones killing billable hours! I'll be in law school next fall, hopefully. Be careful what you wish for! Its better than digging ditches...but I'll be paying off student loans till my kids are 30.... There's quite a few...there's legend of a character called JC that's a lawyer, but I think it's a myth.

    Few would. But is Derosa really making that much? $4.75, and $5.5m the next two years. Not "that much" but a significant enough chunk. In my mind he was Todd Walker cheap.

    I'm all for the team being sold as quickly as possible, but regardless of whether the sale is completed over the winter I expect Hendry will still be here next season in order to ease the transition into new management. The big question will be his available budget. You're probably right, but I was holding out hope that a new owner would bring in his own GM. If the deal took place before November, I would suspect that would be the case. But if it doesn't happen before the winter meetings, I'm not sure they'd get in on-time to make the necessary changes. Anybody wanting a job is probably going to take one before then. I think the new owner lets 2008 get off to a start, and will operate under the "we're evaluating everybody" story until, or unless, the team falls apart early. Which was why I was disappointed to hear of the delay.
