My old man got to meet Tom Ricketts in Arizona last week. He helped my dad get a picture of Billy Williams autographed. My dad is going to be 79 next month but he sounded like a little kid when he was telling me about it. The picture is of him and Billy from a few years ago and Billy was nice enough to personalize it and bring it over to him. :good:
What a glorious day! I am leaving work early so I can be home for the game. At this point I still have a small glimmer of hope that this may finally be the year. Hopefully I am still thinking the same way come the end of August.
And do you really think most college basketball fans want to see MORE teams from schools they've never heard of before that have ZERO chance of winning the tournament?
Group A: Prince Fielder Group B: Mark Teixeira, Adam Dunn Group C: Joe Mauer, Pablo Sandoval, Joey Votto Group D: Manny Ramirez, Chipper Jones, Aramis Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Josh Hamilton WILD CARD: PM'd
http://www.alternativehero.com/v/vspfiles/photos/Charm-2T.jpg I don't think I would. To me it gets into that whole "loveable loser" crap that drives me nuts.
I agree with this. Harry HATED losing more than anyone. I don't remember any other broadcasters before him calling out lazy, boneheaded players and complaining about bad play. I wouldn't have given him the first statue outside of Wrigley, but I have no problem with it.
Maybe Elmore was just trying to avoid from announcing to the millions of people watching that the dude just got hit in the johnson rod and couldn't catch his breath. Announcers often try to avoid that injury analysis situation. Did you watch the game? Sorry but that comment makes me think you didn't. He commented on it when he was leaving the floor and then 5 full minutes later brought it back up after he had returned and been in the game for a couple minutes. He was shocked that he was playing because how much pain he looked like he was in when he was leaving the floor. I was watching casually, but I wasn't hanging on every word the announcers said.
Ruined? WTF were you watching? Hit mute if you are so easily influenced by announcers. This was one of the greatest games of all time! Ruined!? And I don't remember him ever accusing anyone of faking an injury.. I didn't say it ruined the game I said it ruined it to an extent (well I forgot the an the first time). I say right off the bat it was a great game. I, however, was distracted multiple times by the color guy for all the wrong reasons. As for whomever said they don't remember him saying he faked an injury I will paraphrase what I remember. "He went out acting like his right hand was really hurt. He was holding his left hand over his right hand and looked like he was in a lot of pain. He's back in now just a couple minutes later and acting like nothing is wrong. I think he was just fatigued." Yes, I remember the dialogue... which is so far away from "criticizing" a guy for "faking an injury". How in the world did you get to that conclusion? Elmore clearly thought he hurt his hand, then he thought he was just tired. He never once said anything along the lines of "I think Kelly took himself out of the game (which he was dominating) because he decided that was a clever time to fake an injury".... This isn't football, afterall. No benefit to faking an injury. And to ZERO extent could that game have been ruined by a color guy. Unless Glen Beck took over the job, theres no way at all that you should let anything anyone says ruin a game like that. I've never been fatigued and had my hand start hurting. Either he was implying that he faked an injury to get a breather or Elmore is a complete idiot who thinks your hand can start hurting when you get tired. Maybe Elmore was just trying to avoid from announcing to the millions of people watching that the dude just got hit in the johnson rod and couldn't catch his breath. Announcers often try to avoid that injury analysis situation.
