He answered it pretty damn poorly, not just less than exactly right. To me answering it poorly would be something along the lines of "How do we know she's not lying" or "I don't really care what she says now we are trying to win a championship."

So people are now projecting what they think Rizzo thinks about this situation and criticizing him for it because he didn’t answer the question exactly right. Sounds reasonable.

If he finishes the year strong, why wouldn't he get more on the open market? If he doesn't finish the year strong, why would we want to do it? Maybe the Cubs will give him a multi-year deal. Maybe they will still pay more than any other team but less than $20MM. I don't know.

The Cubs can decline the option on Hamels and still try to re-sign him for less money, no?
