  1. DeRosa's been better than expected. The only thing I have against that signing is he doesn't really fill a need on this team. We have guys like Theriot, Fontenot (Cedeno?) would could play 2nd and possibly give us the same OBP. I completely disagree. His patience has been a great addition to this team and something that the team sorely needed. I think he is in the top 10 in the NL in pitches per at bat. I think it's unlikely that those other three to have a .360 OBP over the course of an entire season and there would be a drop off offensively if any of the three were plugged in for DeRosa. In short, I'm not sure DeRosa is appreciated enough around here. He does what everyone has been bemoaning the Cubs batters to do for years now...be extremely patient at the plate.
  2. I think you have your two seamers and four seamers mixed up.
  3. Just for clarity's sake, the Cards also traded Adam Kennedy in that deal.
  4. According to Gameday its 9mph out to RF. Good news for Cliff. And Hawpe and Helton.
  5. Inconsistent? I think he's one of the more consistent pitchers in all of baseball. He's had six straight years of pitching 200 or more innings and, except for last year, had an ERA between 3.12 and 4.17 in all of those years.
  6. Who said they would have gotten nothing in return? Do we know who the prospect was?
  7. Was he completly worthless in his outings besides those 10.2? Not all of them. But he did give up runs in 4 of his next 5 outings. As I'm sure you already knew.
  8. Was he completely useless when he started the season off with 10.2 scoreless innings?
  9. There's no 'probable' about it to me. I like Hill in a landslide over Marshall. I wonder how different some of the responses in this thread would have been if the question were asked a month ago.
  10. LOL, yeah right. Wanting to field a winning team that isn't mostly comprised of thugs equates to living in an ivory tower. Good one. And make no mistake about it, Dukes is a thug.
  11. The end justifies the means, huh? What are you, 10?
  12. OK, thanks. I see the one on the third page now.
  13. I am not a premium member, so I can't access those articles. Thanks for the info for those who responded. Although I wouldn't say that I am "discovering the minor leagues for the first time."
  14. What is Kroeger's story? Where was he drated/acquired and how old is he? ***edit*** Is he the same guy who was in the Phillies organization? And looks to be 24? If so, how did we get him? I'm guessing the expectations aren't all that high?
  15. I'll agree that he has done very poorly in his tenure in Texas, but I think you should mention that he also got Nelson Cruz, a pretty good prospect, from Milwaukee in the Cordero/Lee deal.
  16. I'm mostly pissed off because they traded a catcher that could hit, an extreme rarity, for a back up catcher and a weak rookie ball prospect. Barrett wasn't hitting that well this year. I know it is a very small sample size compared with what he has done the past couple of years, but when you couple his offensive performance this year with his defensive woes and baserunning brainfarts, Michael has hurt the team more than he has helped it so far. Personally, I'm indifferent to the trade.
  17. Aside from Maddux, what value did Hendry give up for any of those guys? It's not like he traded away good players to get them. It was generally a crap for crap deal.
  18. How many players actually get traded at their peak value? Not that many.
  19. San Diego also got Sledge in the deal. What a hose job.
  20. I saw that also. How could that be? Well, Vegas thinks the Cubs are likely to win the series because they have Z as a -135 favorite today.
  21. Weather.com does predictions for each individual ballgame or you look at the wind for the city in general and figure it out for yourself?
  22. Is there a place that can tell me which direction the wind is blowing at Wrigley and how hard? Thanks.
  23. Why is the natural conclusion so obvious to us yet the Cubs management never seem to get it. Hundley practically screamed DFA me and yet the Cubs took on 2 bad players, one of whom blocked their best positon prospect at the time. If you add up Hundley's 2 years and compare that with Karros and Grudz 1 year apiece salaries added up, the Cubs really didn't save much money. It ended up working out great, but that was only by pure dumb luck. No one could have reasonably predicted both Karros and Grudz would have rebounded to produce what they did. . Right. No one. Just dumb luck. Your line of thought can never be wrong under such scrutiny. Must be nice. Even if the trade works out for the better, it's just dumb luck. Nobody wins but your opinion. Too bad baseball isn't nearly that simple.
