  1. Let people be negative and worried. There's a reason to be iffy about our chances You mean because that's what the MLB playoffs are? Get a load of this guy
  2. At least we're making hill *kinda* work. Gotta pray for a blister
  3. that one hurts. Not only is it 1-1 if that stays fair, but you're talking about potentially adding another 5-10 pitches to kershaw's count
  4. Chili without beans is basically just beef stew. It's a crime whenever someone tries to serve it to people expecting delicious chili. Chili is delicious with and without beans. Damn straight
  5. I can't believe I'm 24 hours from feeling like we're going to the World Series in a matchup we should be massive favorites in or wanting to kill myself.
  6. It's more that the Dodgers are terrified to let him pitch because they've been treating him as bubble boy the pitcher. He threw 6 strong innings against the Cubs on August 27th, and he's thrown 16 innings since. presumably for an occasion just like this?
  7. Why wouldn't they just use Stripling in relief of Hill and then start Urias in Game 4 and only expect a couple innings out of him? That way you have the hope of getting more SP innings in Game 4, and Stripling gets the benefit of a lineup oriented for a LHP. In the Cubs' case the latter doesn't make much difference(especially with Montero starting), but still. They're doomed either way as the dong fest commences appx 24 hours from now and extends another 48 hours after that. how many pitchers do we plan on letting hit
  8. Assuming he's hitting and healthy, sure, but he's not hitting, and he's terrible defensively, and we're playing in a park with a very large OF. You are basing him not hitting on 6 playoff ABs - one start and 3 PH appearances? and his awful september
  9. well so does the fact that we might as well have the same at the plate when heyward is up. what is this team missing more right now hitting or defense theres a fair chance, better the 75%, you'd have that broom in LF and AB if you start Soler. heres a question, if you really want to get Soler in there, why not sit Addi. Put Javy at ss, Zo and 2b and your infield D doesnt lose alot and you still a) keep RF and CF locked down and b) get (hopefully) a LH pitcher mashing god at the plate? give me two hours to decipher this and ill get back to you
  10. Soler was objectively the 5th best hitter on the team this season, despite the overreacting to a 6 PA sample in this year's playoffs. In between 2 month stints on the DL, sure, maybe. But the fact that we may as well play with 2 OF and a broom with a glove on it propped up in LF when he's out there sort of matters. well so does the fact that we might as well have the same at the plate when heyward is up. what is this team missing more right now hitting or defense
  11. lol that 5 game sample is timed nicely to avoid mentioning the 7 no-hit innings he threw in the start before
  12. That's a good point. I feel much better about our lineup being able to pitchcount Hill out by 5 (if we can't hit him) than I did about doing that to Kershaw.
  13. The Cubs do not have the pitching advantage in game 3 Based on what? how the two pitchers performed this year?
  14. Look at the pitching match-ups for games 3 & 4 and that should calm any panic. The Cubs do not have the pitching advantage in game 3 give me a blister or give me death
  15. Look at the pitching match-ups for games 3 & 4 and that should calm any panic. where is this horsefeathers coming from? You realize rich hill was better than Jake this year, right? (3.8 WAR, same as arrieta, in 90 FEWER INNINGS.)
  16. Regardless, he's making one more start. And the point is: If he is making that start, I'd rather he be doing it on short rest. And even still, the Dodgers with someone else on the mound don't scare me. What is your deal tonight? TBH it just felt good to vent after a game that played out worst-case imo. here's my deal and then i'll move because i want to send normal-jake some vibes and hope he turns back into god-mode jake. to maintain HFA we needed to beat the best pitcher on the planet. We needed to either A.) score runs B.) hold their offense down C.) some combo of both. We actually got the pitching we needed but we wasted it. And we wasted Kershaw's short-rest start because we only managed to get him to 84 pitches. I'd feel better if we had gotten the pitch count up and gotten him out earlier. As it is the first four innings shouldn't even count against him, he'll throw more pitches than that warming up during game 5 (or 6 whatever.) AND they went to Jansen for a two-inning save, which you'd think would play into our favor for future games considering they taxed his ass in the NLDS and used him up in Game 5 except we only got him to throw like 18 pitches in two innings. After a playoff loss I like to try and take away some silver linings and we got basically none of them (except the pitching, i like that outside of Gonzalez' close your eyes and swing single off chapman in game 1 we've really kept them off the board.) there now im back on board go cobs
  17. If it was another guy that would make me more confident. Like I said if he goes on short rest I'll feel better going into that game than I did coming into this one, but it's striking seeing people's opinions about him "Oh it's playoff Kershaw we're going to get him." *we don't get him* "Well we almost got him. (Editors note 7 innings of two hit ball on just 84 pitches) "Ok but we'all get him next time because it's gonna be hot outside"
  18. I'm not sure where all this wishful thinking re: Kershaw has come from lately. People were sure all day today and even during the game we were going to get to him and he only needed 84pitches to get through 7 shutout innings. I would be more enthused to face him on three days rest than five days rest but I can't imagine feeling good about it considering what we just saw.
  19. I'm not sure if I should be offended or proud that you confused me and goony somehow
  20. If you didn't care how your posts are treated you wouldn't ask your posts to not be treated in a certain way. Besides, your tea leaves probably had our pre-ASB slump never ending, and ultimately fighting the Brewers for 5th place. But FWIW, Kyle and Fan are not at all alike. Fan represents every reactionary fan with a hair social media trigger who calms down as quickly as he exploded. And whether or not he 'ruins the game thread experience' of his fellow posters, he'd never willfully drag them into his well of despair, which he probabaly vacates following the game. Kyle, on the other hand, enjoys his well, and if it were up to him, he'd suck us all down with him and feast upon our souls. This is really fun because I just realized most of you probably don't realize who I am
  21. I'd buy into this, except if the plane started going down, I know Javy would take the wheel and land it safely. He'd probably do a few cool tricks with it first, though. And then say something adorable that would be recorded by the black box
  22. as long as we make sure theo is on a different plane we'll be ok in the longrun
