  1. Everyone was making fun of it. The guys on AM 1000 Mac, Jurko, and Harry were playing "Learning to fly" on their station. It's sad but the circumstances are ripe for this kind of joking. For me it's the chances you take when flying small planes. He knew the danger and he died because of it. Sad but it what it is.... Who cares if he knew the dangers. Do you say the same thing about people who die in car accidents? They are far more dangerous than small planes. This isn't ripe for that sort of joking. And everybody wasn't making fun of it, just the idiots.
  2. Legit AFC team that gets knocked out in the playoffs. I don't want it to be the Giants, who they might face in the playoffs.
  3. So....... do the Yankees have a collective case of "realize it's just a game, think about the important things" and lose whatever inspiration they might have had to trade ARod now?
  4. I really doubt that's true. It's game day for the NLCS, and several people involved had relationships with the deceased. I think any player would be talked about like this.
  5. From what I've heard, he was lucky to have so many good players on his team, and regularly mocks the use of statistics in baseball. Just listen to him provide color commentary during the Oakland series. RISP, hit and runs, stolen bases-these are the things he favors. He mocked OBP and had no idea what WHIP was. Jim found his papa!
  6. Had this not happened, they wouldn't have felt bad at all of course. They are only saying "the right thing" right now. Odds are they'll be right back into the A-Rod bashing, etc. in a few minutes Someone on WSCR just asked how long until ARod would be blamed, ie "If ARod had played like a $25m player, they'd still be in the playoffs, and Lidle would be alive". Sadly, I can see some moron saying that. If it was a mechanical issue, it may have been inevitable anyway.
  7. As a GM with managerial backgroun (many don't) he probably thinks much more highly of the manager's spot than most. He probably think it's really important and the number 1 spot of any team.
  8. That's irresponsible journalism. One has nothing to do with the other (infrastructure and player payroll). That's just his way of getting people talking about his report.
  9. No, Brett Myers. nobody is speculating suicide
  10. no far fetched? He disagree with radio guys about what his words meant. I think it's very far fetched. I didn' mean to imply suicide in my original post. I apologize if that's how it came off. When I mused how Mike & Mad Dog would feel, it was mostly because a guy they were torching 3 days ago was now dead, regardless of cause. They were shaken.
  11. M&MD want the Mets game cancelled. I'm not sure I agree, based on this alone*. But it might get rained out anyway, so combine the conditions with that fact, and it might be a good idea. *They wouldn't have cancelled the game if this was a normal civilian that crashed. They wouldn't have cancelled if this was a Marlin, nor if it was a Ranger, Jet, Giant or Knick. I don't really get why they'd cancel. You'd hear, out of respect, but what does that mean? Is it really disrespectful to a baseball player to play a game on the day of his death when he's not involved on the team. I don't think it is. But the weather does play a factor.
  12. He called in. They didn't say much of anything, until he called in to say "we weren't prepared" was taken the wrong way. He was talking in cliches, and they asked him how he could say what he said and it not meaning that Torre didn't have them prepared.

  14. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=35952 They said his words were a dig on Torre. He called in to say he was not ripping Torre, then they went back and forth about misquoting, out of context and all that. It wasn't about him not being prepared. It was about whether or not Torre was the man for the job and whether or not Lidle's "the team was not prepared" comments meant Torre did not prepare them.
  15. passport found in street. during conversation the other day, it sounded like children in the background. Is he a father?
  16. oh man, what a twist. That's crazy. I turned to mike and mad dog right away, because of the conversation they recently had. They are flabbergasted.
  17. The Cubs have been pretty stable at the manager's spot, with 3 full-time managers in the past 12 years. That's more stable than most teams. I don't really care if a guy is here longterm or not. These guys are caretakes, not game plan implementers like in the NFL.
  18. remember the accidental small plane crash into the white house? Actually, I think it was supposedly a lone crazy dude in a cessna or something. Not sure. Anyway, I thought at the time it was a test run by terrorists to test defenses.
  19. I'm not optimistic, but I'm going to give him the chance. I don't like how Hendry operates. But it's not impossible to win with his style, just more difficult.
  20. You're going to get on the media for "overreacting" to a plane crash in Manhattan? Good point, all indications make it obvious that its an accident. By overreaction I meant 9-11 level overreaction. But after reading your post, I guess no reaction is really overreaction when people are potentially dead or injured (not to mention its a freaking plane crash in freakin Manhattan) It's obvious now, but it wasn't at first. The market took a pretty steep initial drop. That alone is worth a little discussion, because it shows how jittery the market is. Plus, air safety is going to be discussed. General aviation aircraft was banned from the area for a pretty substantial time.

  23. A "small plane" reportedly hit a building in midtown. Now they say helicopter. Now reports of small white plane doing acrobatics. FAA says fixed-wing.
  24. If I was the Yankees I would not trade him. The issue is that ARod is damaged goods in NY. The only way a trade is feasible is if the Yankees feel like they have to trade him. And while they might say they don't have to, they have to say that for the sake of negotiations. The point is, call their bluff, and be aggressive.
