  1. Doug Dascenzo is the manager for Eugene
  2. I was at the Chiefs/Cougars game tonight. Here are my BeerNotes: Taylor was very wild in the first giving up 4 total. He settled down in the second and was sold from there on. His fastball was 90-91 and he kept the hitters off balance with his breaking stuff. I was sitting on the firstbase side so I cant say for sure but it looked more like a slider than a curve. There were plenty of gripes at the home plate ump so I think he was inconsistent and he may have been squeezing Taylor in the first. Three guys stuck out in my mind: Reed has a clean swing with a quick bat. He DH'd tonight and had 3 hits and his 11th stolen base. He looks for pitches to drive and doesn't chase up in the zone. Excellent approach IMO. Norwood looks like a ballplayer. Similar approach as Reed but he'll go after pitches up. He's a big kid and has a pretty good glove at first. The guy that impressed me the most was Yusef Carter. He needs to work on his patience as he's definitely a free swinger, but he's a big strong looking kid. He takes a very aggressive swing and drives the ball. He had just one hit tonight but it was on a rope to center. Defensively he made two nice grabs in right. If he can learn to look for his pitches he can make himself into a solid outfielder and he appears to have plenty of arm for the position. Campusano has a funky delivery (ala Wagner from the left side) that makes him tough. He was hitting 89-90 with his fastball but he has good control. He K'd the side to end it. Overall the Chiefs struck out 11 but control was an issue for everyone except Campusano. Reynolds hit a bomb but his actions at third need some work. He has plenty of arm for the position IMO, but he takes odd angles and appears a little tentative. I think he was given an error on a line shot that he tried to backhand, that was clearly a hit in my mind. There was a 1 hour rain delay that forced the Cougars to cancel the fireworks scheduled for after the game. But they are giving free tickets to the next fireworks night over labor day to anyone with a ticket stub to tonights game. Nasty storm blew through but after that it was a perfect night for baseball. I didnt get a chance to talk to the guy but I think there was a scout behind home. He was charting Taylor closely and didnt return after the rain. He had his own gun that clocked two 93 heaters when the stadium gun hit 91.
  3. Gameday frozen Yahoo frozen Espn frozen Y?
  4. Why the f--- is Neifi starting again?? After another 0-fer his average is down to .214 and his obp is under .300. Why is he here and why does he start? I honestly don't get this anymore.
  5. My guesses: No surprise - Bonds, Giambi, McGwire or Sosa Surprise - leaning toward a pitcher, I'll pick Schilling Shocked - Pujols or Tori Hunter
  6. you're in McHenry County, aren't you? I was 11th in line at Jewel in Crystal Lake. we were in the car about 2 minutes after Neifi went deep (best damn thing he's ever done for us). there were cars coming from everywhere speeding to Jewel as we drove. the only reason we were able to get tickets is I jumped out of the car and ran in as soon as we got in the parking lot, then my brother parked. people who parked and then walked in were left out, as were people who didn't have cash in hand. Palatine. Although I live in McHenry county now. I was the only person in the car so I couldn't jump out as I saw the line forming in a hurry. An awful experience but I did get to see the game, only cost me $240!
  7. Joe Girardi Maybe we can send the fish some more pitching prospects and pry Girardi away. No? Well, he should have been offered the job when he was available then.
  8. I have too many memories I don't know where to start. When I was 10, I would jump on the L at Rosemont, get off at the Addison stop, take a bus and watch a game from the bleechers. All for less than $10. Ryno was the man, and the 1984 team was awesome. I was in 6th grade and remember every moment of the losses to San Diego. I still hate Steve Garvey to this day. When game 163 was to be played I jumped in my car and drove to Jewel to get tickets. By the time I got there the line was around the block. I got in line and when I got to the counter I was told that they just sold out. (no lie). I bought two tickets through a scalper for $120 each, one was obstructed view but that game was incredible. Wood 20K game? How about Jeff Pico's rookie debut of 1 hit shutout ball? Or Fergie coming back. Steve Trout anyone? How about Rick Reuschel? Or the excitement of signing Guzman and then learning that it was the "other" Guzman. I miss Harry. My best memory was going to the park with a friend and his dad. His dad knew an usher that got us onto the field after the game. We ran the bases and his dad took a picture of us sliding into home. He still has that picture to this day.
  9. Great article again Bruce. Makes me depressed and sick to see my team so blind to the changes of the game in recent years.
  10. Myself and some friends will be at the Saturday game in Kane County. Congrats to the Chiefs!!
  11. Why do you want Maddux for two more years, let alone one more year? Why because he's still good for at least 12 wins a year and I like the repoire he's built with some of the kids like Marshall and Marmol. I'll take back the two year deal and only offer him 1. 2 is a bit much. Z Seconded
  12. Congrats Sean. Well deserved!!! =D>
  13. Hey, who threw the pretzel at BeerHere?
  14. Advertisements raise revenue. More revenue means more payroll (in a perfect world) or perhaps lower ticket prices.
  15. I love the Cubs, but the ballpark? I can take it or leave it. I don't go to games for the "experience", "ambiance" or "atmosphere". I go to see baseball in all it's glory and that includes replays and a pile of stats. IMHO, Wrigley should be torn down and a better, more modern park should be built in it's place. The bleachers are much better, but it wasn't too long ago that they were a joke. Every try using the bathroom from say, section 800. It's a long friggin walk and the isles are way too cramped for me, the beer vendor and the guy with the huge sombrero. Have you really looked closely at the ballpark? It's falling apart. Other than the recently rebuilt bleachers the park is a rust bucket and eleventy layers of paint hiding 70 year old steel and concrete. I'll brace for the backlash, but Wrigley needs to be replaced plain and simple. There's no reason why I should pay $60 for a cheap seat and have to deal with falling concrete, awful seats and rust everywhere. It's an embarassment.
  16. What a depressing year! Seconded And it's barely June
