    if he wants to be truly great, he has to fumble at the end of an important playoff game, be bailed out by some lucky breaks for his team, and play a marginal to negligible role in finally winning a super bowl. that would cement his legacy!!!!

    Errors tell you absolutely *nothing* about defensive ability? Sorry TT, but I disagree. Maybe they don't tell you much about a guy's phyical ability to play defense.....but if you can't make the plays well then-----you can't make the plays. And 14 errors is so many more than many other shortstops. It's not that he's able to get to balls that others can't and they are being called errors. It's that he is just shaky on defense, like yesterday when he airmails a throw to first. Errors don't tell you anything. Sorry to break this to you.

    It is pretty apalling the way people are trying to make Materazzi look like the bad guy. Even more sad is Zidane getting the award for best player. The guy had one good game (against brazil) other than that he was an average player. Seems like the media and fans will do anything to prop this guy up

    No, it's primarily a problem of low and mid-market clubs who are hampered by financial concerns. The Cubs are in the same boat as KC, Cincinnatti, Pittsburgh, and Tampa. But, by the same token the Cubs have focused on pitching prospects over the last decade with their high draft picks. Even so their track record is pretty piss poor. Yah, Tampa is really having trouble developing position players. I don't think financial concerns matter much in developing players other than signability issues.

    Gotta love soccer - france has a huge advantage because the refs bought a dive. Despite the propaganda about "the beautiful game" ....soccer seems more like a potentially beautiful game that is ruined by poor officiating and unsportsmanlike play

    Exactly how is he a bum? Being injured doesn't make one a bum. The guy purposely gets injured so he can undergo painful surgery and rehab. What a bum!

    It's hard to over-rate when you have the most yardage from scrimmage by a RB, most rushing yards, and most rushing TD's. Saying Smith is over-rated would be the same as saying Hank Aaron is over-rated. You can do it, but it's pretty ridiculous. Most yardage from scrimmage? Isn't that pointless? None of the great pass catching running backs have retired yet. Smith is overrated. Sanders was better. Payton was better. Brown was better. Sayers would of been better. Bo Jackson would of been as well.
