  1. Eh, it happens.
  2. So Kevin Hayes apparently had no interest in signing with the Hawks for whatever reason, probably because he thought he wouldn't get any playing time in the near future. He's probably right about that. So he became a UFA, and today he signed with the Rangers. Hawks are victims of success and depth here, I suppose, though there was speculated that Hayes felt like the Hawks jerked his brother around before trading him. So who knows.
  3. :banghead:
  4. Did you at least get Google Fiber? Ha, no not yet. Signups are supposed to be starting soon for our part of town. You moved into a part of town that didn't have it already?!? They really haven't expanded far into the KS side yet, which is where we wanted to be. But I figured we could stomach Time Warner for 8-9 months. I hope they hurry up though because TWC is terrible.

  6. Damn, first year of my life (other than college) living in a non-NHL city. This is terrible. Hopefully can catch a Hawks game when I'm up there for Christmas, and going to Montreal for a game in February. And the Blues are playing a preseason game here. Lame.
  7. I like the guy: Nice Jim Vandermeer sighting there too.
  8. Yeah, I don't get this. Raanta goes to Rockford so he can play more maybe? Beat guys on Twitter are saying no, Raanta remains the backup and Leighton will go to Rockford and be there in case of injury.
  9. So, the Hawks signed Michael Leighton to a one-year deal for goaltending depth. Yes, that Michael Leighton. Kane will have some fun with him I'm sure.
  10. Just saw video he destroyed that ball. Soler and Bryant plz
  11. Completely honest, no, I did not realize that. I guess I have a general idea that Formula One fans aren't rednecks, but that's based on nothing except I think of it as European. I was at the 'Tudor' race at Road America this weekend. The place was packed with rich people driving expensive sports cars. The racing field included Porsche, Audi, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Viper, Corvette, BMW, etc. The series that turned into Tudor was the ALMS which joined with GrandAm (owned by NASCAR). Anyway, the ALMS did demographic studies and the fans were more educated and had higher incomes than the general population. I'm just going to go ahead and keep generalizing if it's okay with you. This sounds like a douche convention. Eh, it's like anything. You can go to a Cubs or Bears or Blackhawks game and have a douche convention on a regular basis. If you like watching cutting edge technology and extremely talented, brave (crazy), drivers fly around the track at high speeds it's a lot of fun. The feeling of 50 cars coming down a straight at 160+ mph with horse power in the tens of thousands is a pretty dam spectacular event. Especially when you're ten feet from the track and can walk and view everything from different vantage points. Road America is like a state park, it's in the middle of a forest. It's a far cry from a bunch of mouth breathers sitting in bleacher seats at Talladega praying to jeebus for a big crash. I'm just busting balls out of boredom. Don't mind me.
  12. And I'm not overlooking Smack's humblebrag either. Mmmmm this weekend I went to a fancy car race in the Hamptons. The Porsche team lost by a nose mmmmmm.

  15. Let's do this. I haven't felt like working all day (obviously).
  16. Because hockey is awful and I don't care what you say Sure, that's your opinion and that's fine. There's obviously nothing wrong with that. I don't get why people who don't like racing have to be so adamant about the fact that they don't like racing, and act demeaning towards those that do. There's a difference between people who don't like hockey or lacrosse or soccer and those who don't like racing. There are any number of completely valid reasons to bag on racing as a "sport," and obviously racing fans are easy fodder.
  17. Color me very surprised that we got through almost three pages of serious discussion about racing before someone inevitably made this comment. I wouldn't exactly call any of this a serious discussion about racing.
  18. No, not really. Well, a little. Maybe a bit more than a little, but not completely really. Kind of. Something like that.
  19. Right. If you watch the video, the car in front of Stewart had to swerve to miss the kid. As tragic as this is, I really think the person at fault here was the kid that died. It would be nice if they could prosecute everybody who decided to be a fan of racing in the first place. This. I mean, they got what they went to see, right? I'm no fan of racing, but come on. Really? No, not really. Well, a little.

  21. I agree, it will be very tough to establish intent, considering he ran towards Stewart. But I could see Stewart being banned from racing for life. Guys, you don't need intent to commit vehicular manslaughter. Right but the guy was on foot on a race track. It's been awhile since I took crim law, but recklessness needs to be established, yes? Just seems thin to me. And if no criminal charges are filed he won't be banned either.
  22. I thought this was an even-handed review of the situation: http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports_nut/2014/08/kevin_ward_jr_death_tony_stewart_ran_over_and_killed_a_fellow_driver_is.html Charges so unlikely. Can't establish intent.
