  1. Constrasting this news from 670 with the tone of the Tribune article, wow. I don't know what to believe, but I know what I want to believe. Z doesn't pitch until the NLDS. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. If we only win the Wild Card, fine. I mean, does it really matter?
  2. Seriously though, we split a series we expected to split, and then had the misfortune of running into the hottest team in baseball. Remember when the Cubs were the hottest team in baseball? That was fun.
  3. He said he was having "normal" pain for this point in the season and he will make his start on Weds in St. Louis.
  4. Okay, I'm stupid. How do you get to the chat? I have AIM up.
  5. Trib is making it sound like he was just a "no-show" for the MRI appointment. WTF? Leads me to think he's very upset about what the doc told him. Or he just got stuck in traffic.
  6. They've been talking about him for awhile here. Impressive.
  7. Yeah, that's pretty much why I enjoyed it too. Speaking of that, I picked up John Schuerholz's (sp?) book a couple weeks ago... has anyone read that? How is it? Moneyball was fascinating to me and was my first real intro into statistical player evaluation. Although the book puts Beane on a bit of a pedestal, it's worth the reading for any baseball fan. I've also read Scheurholtz's book which I found a little disappointing. I liked the inside details of the Glavine negotiations and the information about Chipper and Andrew Jones. He hates Deion Sanders. But overall it was more of a "biography" than I was expecting (probably my fault). A decent read but not that great. Thanks for the critique. I had been interested in that one. Going to be doing a lot more traveling for the new job, so I need to get a few books in line to read.
  8. He's also the guy that threw the first pitch about 50 feet to the left of home plate. That was embarrassing. His hockey play can't be much worse than that. Yeah that was pretty embarassing. When Len asked him if anyone mistook him for Matt Murton, it was clear he had no idea who Murton is. Not that he necessarily should or would.
  9. Snark ahoy! I read it, maybe 3-4 years ago now. I found it very interesting, though I'm not really a stats guy. Just reading a lot of the behind-the-scenes stories and about the players made it worth my time.
  10. I agree. But I'm hoping it goes the other way, i.e., pressure if off, just go out and play. And win.
  11. Ummm... 8-2 Mets now. :ninja: Behold the awesome power of the jinx. Too bad the Cubs cant beat the Astros if their life depended on it. Thanks to the Mets, their lives aren't depending on it. But it sure would be nice.
  12. 8-2, two-run single for some guy named Evans. That should do it for this one.
  13. Homer for Hardy, 6-2, 2 out in 7th. Grrr.
  14. Going to bottom of 7th, still 6-1. Think Santo is rooting for the Mets right now?
  15. I didn't realize these games weren't officially sold out.
  16. 6-1 now, Perez was bound to crack a little.
  17. Whatever it takes...
  18. Going to top of 6th, still 5-0. WTG Perez!
  19. Thanks, Dave Bush. According to Mets radio, Church, um, admired that homer and strolled around the bases so slowly to the point that they said, "we don't think the Brewers will appreciate that." I watched it on MLB.tv, and he really didn't do anything more than any other hitter. He might have admired it for a second, but he didn't run all that slow. I didn't see it, just figured it had to be bad to be getting called out by his own radio guys. I know Wayne Hagin is part of this team, not sure who the other guy is on WFAN. But they are a pretty good listen.
  20. Wow, Perez K'd Braun looking with two on. No style points, but Perez is getting the job done so far. Gotta like it.
  21. 1-2-3 for Perez in second. I have to say, sitting Prince today is a pretty bold move. But it does run against my general opinion of Yost, that he winds up his team too tight and treats every game like Game 7 of the WS.
  22. Nevermind. Mets stranded leadoff triple. That's so Cob.
  23. Brewers pen already up. McClung. 1 out with Reyes still on 3rd.
  24. Perez worked out of that jam. Nice job. Eight more of those, Mets.
