  1. The other thing is that a lot of people bought season tickets for the Winter Classic tickets. Without that draw, and given the economy, I think there will be a lot of non-renewals. Whether there are enough new folks on the waiting list remains to be seen.
  2. Do you really think so? I am not sure if I believe that. The team is young and talented, and quite a few of their key pieces are locked up. My thinking goes back to the Penguins two seasons ago. They broke through and made the playoffs as a 5 seed in 06-07, but lost to the 4 seed Ottawa 4-1 in the first round. The next year, the finished 3rd (or 2nd?) and made it to the Stanley Cup finals. I think it really depends on how they take to the playoffs. If they press and get a case of Cub-itis, I can see them losing in the first round quickly. But if they come in with a fearless, nothing-to-lose mentality, they could become giant killers and advance a few rounds. I think if the team loses in five, they just might not get the experience they need to prepare them for the future. Pittsburgh was more of a veteran team than the Hawks.
  3. I agree that a first-round exit would be disastrous. Here's how I look at these playoffs. The playoffs are so different from the regular season, and many of these guys aren't going to be ready for it. Even with that, I think they win the first-round series on talent alone. After that, it'll be a battle and we'll learn a lot about some of these guys. But looking beyond this year, every playoff minute each of these guys plays will make them a better team in the future. We'll need exceptional goaltending to beat San Jose. They are so strong. Oddly, I'm not as afraid of Detroit.
  4. Glad I avoided the game thread last night. What else can be said? Most aggravating game of the year. They lost this game because their finishers didn't finish. Simple as that. They should've cruised to a 4-2 win. Yes, Harding was great, but our shooters missed their spots too many times and missed open nets as well. As for the "no goal" business, I thought it was inconclusive. Given that, I'm not surprised they didn't overturn it. From the main angle it definitely looked like a good goal. I don't trust that camera they had behind the net because it was higher than the goal, looking slightly downward.
  5. I agree that there are eithers with the fans being loyal to existing teams, but the comparison to Springfield, MO is inaccurate. Springfield's MSA is about 370,000. Hamilton's is 690,000. Akron is 694,000. But even with the similar population numbers between Akron and Hamilton, there is no much more interest up there.
  6. I hope the team gets a hell of a welcome home tomorrow from the home fans. They are fun to watch.
  7. Wow, Dallas is showing a pulse here. Just a few more solid shifts though and the guys get to go home with another great road win.
  8. Ott with the breakaway. Great. Just a wild sequence there.
  9. Even if the Hawks weren't on their game today and sharp with their passes, Dallas seems to have no interest in forechecking. St. Louis has given the Hawks fits this year because they forecheck the hell out of them and force turnovers by the defensemen. This is just a clinic at this point.
  10. KABOOM! Walker or Eager, who cares! EDIT: Eager didn't touch it. Just a knuckler.
  11. Ohhhhhh what a save by Turco! And that penalty call is crap. They were both going for the puck. That's not tripping. EDIT: On the replay, I'm calling that one the save of the year.
  12. You're responsible for your stick. There was nothing wrong with Neal's check.
  13. You had to open that can of worms, didn't you? Don't worry, I'm not biting today. Yet.
  14. I just saw Kane body check a guy. I'm going to rewind and watch again to make sure I'm not losing my mind.
  15. He's having such an awesome season. I'm glad we didn't give up on him. No doubt. I've criticized his two-way play in the past, but he's been really solid on both ends more often than not.
  16. There it is! Kaner starting to find his touch!
  17. Nice work Wiz. Dump that punk. I love a good, physical hockey game. Looks like we're gonna get 40 more minutes of it.
  18. Again the Dallas announcers pegged it. Turco had horrible positioning on that. He appeared to leave about a foot of space on near side. Good shot by Wiz though. It seems there will be plenty of scrums today...
  19. I'm surprised Toews didn't turn around and wallop Turco for the face wash.
  20. It looked like Daly froze the puck in there! Dallas announcers are on it, but they think Turco reached out and grabbed it.
  21. Nice kneecap there. Let's see the PP get going.
  22. Wow, everyone on the ice went after Barch. Good to see.
