  2. The first goal was no doubt the result of bad defense. You cannot blame Niemi in any way for that goal. The second one, yeah, there was a defensive breakdown. But he gave a fat rebound and then yet the putback get under him. Saturday night he would have made that stop.
  3. Did I mention Kane is good?
  4. Rebound control...
  5. Sopel did just have a very good shift in the offensive zone.
  6. Kane is good. And that was soft.
  7. I don't mind that if it isn't from the circles. They love to take those bad angle shots, and then they miss the net (esp. Campbell) and the puck clears the zone on the far side on its own.
  8. he's sooo bad. he went through a stretch for like a month where he was doing way better, now he's just awful again No doubt. For awhile there, and I posted about it a few times, I thought he was winning me over. Then he remembered he sucked. Finally a deserving penalty. And then a [expletive] [expletive] hooking call again. These refs are determined to kill this game.
  9. And now a [expletive] call on the Stars. Make-up call, I guess, but this is ridiculous.
  10. Stunning to see who got abused on that goal -- [expletive] Sopel.
  11. WTF are these refs doing tonight? Two absolutely terrible calls now, not to mention missing the obvious high stick on Madden.
  12. What a terrible penalty call.
  13. ^I agree on 4. It's easier to just say 4. He's gotten too good, too fast. Per the Trib, Niemi is getting another shot tonight. Q is BEGGING him to string together some solid games so he can bench Puet.
  14. Reading the Hawks boards, they brought up a good point. Thomas is owed $5M over each of the next three years. So if you are grooming Niemi to be the backup, unless you think you can flip Thomas (which is possible, unlike Huet), he's probably not the best option.
  15. Yes. Players in the minors don't count against the cap. However, the player has to be a two-way player in order to be sent to the minors. Meaning he would need to clear waivers, right? Which obviously wouldn't be a problem. Dear god, if someone claimed him I think Bowman would do a backflip.
  16. Just a rumor, but this sent my heart aflutter. From ESPN:
  17. They aren't messing around. But I still can't get past the feeling that they will choke when the pressure ramps up. I think the choking thing is a little overplayed. But they have built up a reputation that creates more pressure. The last 3 playoff losses were more about how good the other team was playing and not so much the Sharks choking. They do need to learn how to step it up a notch in the playoffs though. Adding players like Wallin will help. Even in the last two games against the Hawks in SJ, they came out terribly. First time it ended up 7-1. The second time the Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead before they knew what happened. Sure, they came back (and eventually lost in OT), but they were obviously wound a little tight from the start. And these were both games that people were looking at as showdowns and they knew it.
  18. They aren't messing around. But I still can't get past the feeling that they will choke when the pressure ramps up.
  19. where'd you see this? didnt someone talk about it a few pages ago? it mightve just been speculation. im drunk so i also may have just made it up. ignore me and all future posts. There have been some buzzed that the Hawks are "nervous" about Huet in goal. While a deal for a goalie is highly unlikely---mainly because of Huets' contract---it wouldn't surprise me if the Hawks acquired a guy like Roloson. I saw a note on Rumor Central (ESPN) yesterday that the Hawks might be interested in Ellis or Rinne. The thought was that Nashville would sign one of them long term soon and then try to unload the other. Doesn't do a lot for me, but it's almost anyone but Huet at this point. As for what to do with him, you have to send him down.
  20. OMG, I don't know if I could handle how awesome this would be.
  21. That was fun. Haven't watched the TV recording of the game yet, but just a few observations. First, WTG Hawks fans. Thousands upon thousands. Almost my entire section. I've been going to Hawks games here for six years and this was BY FAR the most I've ever seen. I hope that came through on TV. Other random stuff -- Brent Sopel sucks. And not just for whatever he said to the ref to cause the 6-on-3 and cost Niemi his shutout. Hjalmarrson played really well. New line combos were hit or miss. I know what Q was trying to do, but it seems like you're just shuffling the deck for the hell of it. Look who scored -- same guys who always do. What else -- what can you say about Niemi? Phenomenal. He stole the game tonight in a way that I don't think Huet can. Sorry to bring that into it, but he was that good tonight. Rebound control, playing the puck, everything. Good win, nice to get back on track.
  22. Last night, it really did just seem like complacency. This is where Q earns his money. Not enough dedication to forecheckig made Phoenix look like, well, the Hawks with how easily they were able to break out of their own zone. The Blues are moving up in the standings again and are going to come out crashing tonight. If the Hawks don't crank it up a little, they will get run out of the building. No joke.
  23. The offense just couldn't get its act together last night. And once again, you can't count on Huet to make the big saves. He was terrible in the shootout. Bowman needs to pull off a miracle and get us a goaltender. It's worth parting with some offensive talent.
  24. I don't see the Hawks dropping this one tonight, and St. Louis is a horrible team at home this season. I really think a sweep of this back-to-back is reasonable to expect. Plus I'll be there tomorrow night, so they better put on a show...
  25. This should chill the Ladd talk for now. Fraser will be the one to sit tonight. Can't really argue. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/3376 Also of note, Niemi was to start but is sick, so it's Huet. And Joe Fallon (who?) will be called up tonight as the backup.
