    Draft Guide

I used a free one from CBS Sportsline, but it wasn't as good as the Sporting News one I usually buy and print. I think they charge $8.
  2. Huet started today because the team has a back-to-back with travel in between. Q showed us today that Niemi is the #1 because he is starting against the Caps tomorrow. I hope that's the case, but I don't think you can infer from Huet starting yesterday and Niemi today that he is the man now. You could argue Niemi should have started yesterday to try to win that one because whoever is in net today is going to get shelled.
  3. mesothelioma lawyers are really fond of billboards. at least in wisconsin. Billboards, lame TV commercials, etc. But it's an extremely lucrative business for them.
  4. He's got to face the music. He better. The trickbag for Boston is that whoever retaliates in the brutal way that needs to be done will end up getting punished severely. I do not at all understand the league's thinking on this one. I'll be watching that game next week.
  5. Just watched last night's game in fast-forward. Adam Burish is awesome. That is all.
  6. Oddly enough, the cancer he died of (mesothelioma) is the one caused by exposure to asbestos. He has a lawsuit (well, his family does now) pending in California against the usual group of defendants that get sued in these cases.
  7. the loss is probably bigger then the win against the Hawks. I think it is time to admit that the Wings are missing something this year. I think a big part of it is teams just do not fear them. In years past when teams go behind the Wings they probably had a feeling that it was over. Clearly not the case anymore. I still think they'll find a way in at the end and will be dangerous, but I agree they are not the same team.
  8. No shock, but Niemi starts tonight against LA.
  9. Harang actually did improve last year over a really crappy 2008 season. He was around league average in 2009. Still 6-14 last year, mid-4's ERA and a 1.41 WHIP.
  10. That's not a bad idea on their part. You're a loyal customer who has shown a willingness to consistently spend money on a sports package year after year, so they figure they'll give you this other sports package free this year, and maybe you'll be more inclined to purchase it in future years. That is nice. I've only been a subscriber for two years but with EI, CI and ST subscriptions, maybe I can move up the list for this sort of stuff. Especially since my bill crept up another $9/mo this month.
  11. So what is success or failure for this year? Gotta be making the finals, right?
  12. I didn't realize Arroyo had such a nice season last year. It was his best in a few years. Figure he regresses a little, Harang gets a little better (can't get worse), and that's a wash. I agree on Bailey though and Chapman. They will be better until he gets hurt.
  13. The only way that happens if the Bears get a 2nd rd pick in next years draft. Otherwise, giving away Olsen late round pick does not benefit the Bears. I rather hold onto Olsen then to give him away. Yeah, if all he is going to net is a 5th round pick, at best, then keep him. In that case, it's worth the chance that the team flames out, Lovie goes and thus Martz goes, and in 2011 we have a new OC, still have Cutler and still have Olsen.
  14. ^Agreed.
  15. So we can expect Huet to be shittier... I'm losing this argument out of my hatred for Huet. I can't help myself. EDIT: Okay, when my expletive is key to understanding whatever stupid point I'm trying to make....yeah... I was saying we can expect Huet to be worse in the playoffs then, by that logic.
  16. I've never liked the guy, I admit. But Khabi was never as bad as Huet. But, on a more positive note, at least we know ownership won't let the team go to hell for another 15 years if they blow this chance.
  17. Okay, why don't they bring Crawford up then and just let him start Game 1 of the playoffs. Since a track record of playing well in the NHL doesn't mean [expletive].
  18. This only makes sense if: 1) You ignore that Khabibulin had plenty of shaky moments in the regular season last year. 2) You ignore that Khabibulin had plenty of shaky games in the postseason last year. 3) You ignore that Huet and Niemi are both capable of making amazing saves. Khabi had proven he could carry a team through the playoffs and win it all and he was doing it again. I'm going to stop being negative now. Whoever said it earlier was right -- it doesn't do any good. This team is what it is.
  19. You can't in any way compare goaltending statistics from the early-to-mid 1980s to the current NHL, even after the lockout. Look at the point totals players racked up in that era -- not even close to today's standards. Games will tighten up. How many amazing saves did Khabi make in the first few rounds last year? Those are going in this year. I don't want to be all doom and gloom, but I guess I had faith that Bowman would fix this at the deadline. Now that he didn't, it's just a black cloud over this team. And they have to know it.
  20. There's a difference between staying positive and putting on blinders. What's the longest hot streak either of our goalies has had this season? 3 games? There is no reason to expect either of them will do any better in the playoffs, though Niemi seems to play up to big games better and seems to have better focus. Go with him.
  21. I often wonder what this team would be like if we never signed Huet and Campbell. I'd imagine we'd still be a conference contender, only one that could afford to take on salary. What a disasterous offseason for them that year. Right. Campbell has made some contribution, but I can confidently say this team would have done just as well last year as they did without him. And obviously Huet has made zero contribution whatsoever that couldn't be given by a chimp in pads. I agree that Niemi is not the answer either at this point. But he's clearly shown he can stand on his head at times, which Huet hasn't done since CF Game 5 last May. And he's young and might get better. So go with him exclusively from here on out. What do they have to lose?
  22. I'm nearly to the point of being resigned to this team not doing [expletive] come playoff time. The goaltending just won't get it done. Go play in traffic, Dale Tallon. You damned fool.
  23. Missed the last two games, going to miss the next two. This work travel and vacation business is killing my hockey watching. Good thing is I'll have four games to watch in fast-forward when I get home on Sunday night. I'd say Stan's GM tenure lives or dies on how the goalies perform in the playoffs, but it's easy enough to hang that around Tallon's neck. If they can move Huet in the offseason, I'll be happy. They should be trying to get Schneider (the prospect stuck behind Luongo in Vancouver).
  24. Hawks picked up Boynton today for "future considerations." If we were getting an Anaheim defenseman, it could have been Wiz. He is being assigned to Rockford. Seems to me he is a piece they can use next year when Sopel (thank god) is gone.
  25. :yahoo: Being named best forward in that tournament is a huge honor. Very well deserved.
