  1. According to the guys at http://www.thehotstovereport.com, the Cubs are getting in the Vazquez line, and they expect Bradley to be a Cub in a few days, but the most interesting thing is that NO ONE wants Patterson. Okay, so if we're stuck with him, and, I can think of far worse scenarios (Curtis Goodwin), what are our options (literally)? Can we shove him back to AAA without exposing him? Should we just keep him on the bench and let him spell Pierre every once in a while?
  2. We lost him the first time because Wood refused to go on the DL and we had to try and outright him to the minors for a roster spot...and at the same time, lost him and Gary Matthews, Jr. And if I remember correctly Wood still ended up going to the DL. Correct!
  3. It's like they say about Dusty: He's the best manager in Baseball until the game actually starts.
  4. Bradley seems imminent, from Jayson Stark: I like this move a lot. Plus, we need some of the fire that he brings to a team... until he calls Kerry Wood a racist.

  6. Better bat, attitude, and no injuries! what exactly do you mean, attitude? Hairston mopes about playing time. Cairo is always smiling.

  8. Even if AZ were willing to deal Green, why in the world would you think their GM to be silly enough to take a $2.x million dollar bust for a guy who is capable of being in the top 5 of NL outfielders.. Although, I know Green has a background in Chicago, so that would not be a problem. But anyone who heard Hendry on MLB Radio yesterday knows that Patterson is gone.
  9. I just saw the Mets non-tendered Miguel Cairo. Am I alone here? I think this guy is the best bench player in the bigs. He does everything he's asked, does it well, and can always be counted on in a pinch. With Macias gone, let's get this guy back! Who's with me?!
  10. Sounds like Hendry's ready to go into the season with Cedeno starting at SS...Fine by me!
  11. Do you work for XM??? With the amount of joy I've had from being able to listen to Pat & Ron at work, and all the other awesome music choices they offer, I might as well! One of the best purchases I've ever made.
  12. Just an FYI for everyone else out there... XM Radio's MLB channel (XM 175 for those equipped) has been a great resource for all things Winter Meetings. They are constantly interviewing GMs and Managers, and even though most of them say a lot more nothing than anything (Baker talking about hunting with Dibble), it's a pretty good way to get a fix. They also carry these press conferences live...
  13. Patterson does have 5 tools. He just hasn't put them all together. Maybe he will some day, maybe he won't. Did you hope he would fail while many of us cheered for him to succeed? If you read between the lines, it seemed to me that he was just too stubborn to take anyone's suggestions on how to use, or improve those tools. He all but refused to bunt to get on base, and probably just didn't work all that hard.. this refusal to go to Winter Ball had to be the final straw. However, Eric Patterson seems to be the real deal. Provided the Cubs don't screw him up, he's putting up some real nice numbers in the minors, and there's no talk of jetting him up to the bigs well before his time (yet).
  14. Is he really that offensive to Hendry's plans that we can't find a spot for him to play SOMEWHERE?! His bat really came alive when he got back from his injury, and didn't seem to be the negative guy that the Red Sox media machine made him out to be.
  15. Why the hell can't I properly quote anything!?
  16. I think the Cards will overpay to get Vazquez, and it seems like Morris will be a SF Giant...
  17. Maybe we can wrangle Odalis Perez from the Dodgers with Milton Bradley for Corey Patterson and... is anyone left?!
  18. Nice veteran, left-hander might look nice with the guys we have now... I know there's no chance the Angels will offer him arbitration. Think we'll make a run?
  19. You don't. that's why at some point, without any guarantees, you have to stick the rookie in the batting order and see if he can do it. that isn't true we have prognosticators on this site that said Patterson was a five tool man that was the next wunderkind. In fact I am looking for them now. I am glad corey came along it humbled many "I know everything about baseball and human nature people." Maybe we can start judging these guys after 3 solid season in the majors instead of an april in their rookie year or AAA Well, I think things would be much different now if one of two things had happened: a) They gave him more than two months in AA b) He never got injured in 2003... man, was he hot before that happened. Why he never really bounced back from that injury/setback, I'll never know.
  20. The Phils want a top of the line rotation guy (or two) back for Abreu. They're in win now mode, and I don't think are primarily concerned with prospects. I wouldn't be surprised if they're looking to dump Bell in the same move.. this doesn't feel like a fit for the Cubs.
  21. In all honesty, if we can get Bradley, and maybe one more pitcher for the 'pen or rotation, I would be quite content to open the season as is with Cedeno/Walker as our DP combo. I know the grass is always greener in Free Agent/Winter land... but let another team overpay for Lugo, especially now that the Red Sox decided they want to move Renteria; I think Cedeno is legit enough to take a chance on.
  22. I'm trying to figure out two things: 1. Why haven't we done anything yet? 2. How the heck do we know that Pie isn't Patterson II, or Pat Cline, or.. (I don't think I need to list them all)... Maybe I'm just looking for some solace as to why we're hanging onto this guy, when clearly he's got a bullseye on his back from every team that talks to us!
