  1. Does anyone know where I might find this game on DVD? I know there are traders out there who do this stuff, but I am looking for an uncut original broadcast of this game from 1984... any help would be great!
  2. Fox and TBS...eww. What do people have against FOX? I happen to enjoy their coverage, and the less Baseball I have to endure on ESPN, the happier I am. Very bad announcers. Silly graphics and sound effects. Waste lots of times showing things other than the game. They blackout saturday afternoon games. I have the extra innings package and couldn't watch the Cubs clinch in 2003, that's justification enough for hating Fox. I actually just saw an article on Yahoo Sports where Selig addresses the blackouts, and says he is going to do something about it. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-blackouts071106&prov=yhoo&type=lgns As for the announcers, I suppose it's a matter of preference: I enjoy Joe Buck a great deal, don't much mind the other guys (Albert, Rosen...), and enjoy what FOX brings to a broadcast with their innovative graphics. They always keep it fresh, whereas other broadcasters, like NBC, haven't changed their graphics in a decade. And they actually use music made after 1983 in their in-game highlight packages. As for the part about showing things other than the game, I guess this is just the changing landscape of TV... I definitely did not need to see a meaningless replay of a mid-game double play for the "Pepcid Double Play of the Game" last night, but that's just the way things go these days... And odd as it may sound, I'm less put off by that than I am the Toyota logo being on the screen during replays on CSN games.
  3. I predict today the Cubs announce a vote of confidence for Dusty, fire Gene Clines, and promote Von Joshua. Thoughts?
  4. This from MLBTradeRumors.com: I wouldn't be so sure... and I'd love to make that deal...

  6. Anyone else made slightly uncomfortable by this? LOL
  7. Who says it isn't already here? His power has suffered dramatically this year, and it ain't gonna improve. As much as I like Walker, I wouldn't object to trading him. There's obviously something about Walker we don't know; I don't know why it could have been THAT hard for Hendry to unload a better than average 2B in the off-season... And why Hendry is hell-bent on unloading him...
  8. They should do away with the All-Star Game in WBC years and have a mid-season rematch of the WBC teams.
  9. Two things baffle me: Glendon Rusch on that list (though his last start will really help Hendry), and Neifi NOT on that list... But Walker is a great piece for a playoff contender; I can see the Mets being very interested, for one. And I'd be interested to see what Theriot can do in the bigs... (although the departure of Walker will probably just mean an everyday slot for Neifi... d'oh!)
  10. This was posted yesterday, and it sounds like he's got a pretty good handle on what's going on, though I DO think that Maddux will be traded: One big reason the Cubs have decided not to make any big decisions on Dusty Baker during the break is that they have no logical candidate-in-waiting to replace him. "There's no Grady Little (a Cubs special assistant last year) on that staff," said one NL Central executive. "If there was, it might be a different story." One name you can scratch off your list is the oft-rumored Lou Piniella. Piniella doesn't seem likely to consider taking any jobs until the Devil Rays are finished paying him after the season. And Piniella's reputation as being hard on young players makes him an unlikely candidate for this job, anyway. The Cubs haven't indicated any interest in having TV color man Bob Brenly recreate his Arizona climb out of the booth. And they don't appear to view their Triple-A manager, Mike Quade, as a candidate. So Baker seems secure for the time being. But that could change just about any minute. • The Cubs have already placed a bunch of players on the market -- Juan Pierre, Todd Walker, Scott Williamson, Glendon Rusch, Phil Nevin and John Mabry, for starters. But the most talked about name, Greg Maddux, remains unavailable, at least for now. "We're talking about a guy who has never been traded in 20 years," said one executive who knows Maddux well. "So don't just assume he'll want to get traded now."
  11. I'm gonna guess that everybody plays a lot nicer in the sandbox when the Cubs aren't 20+ games below .500?? :? I think that would be a safe bet. :D Anyway, interesting article in the Sun-Times about Piniella for the Cubs job; despite what Stark says. Not that I'm paranoid, but Stark is a big Phillie guy who knows that Manuel is going to get canned soon; he might be banging the drum for Sweet Lou to take over that ship.

  13. Might be crazy enough to work. Hendry gambles on all types of pitchers injuries why not something like this. Besides if the Cubs have Johnny G(o)umms and Razor Shine on their team theys be soundin like ganstas. How do you pronounce Gomes anyway? Long O? Call me crazy, but I don't think the D-Rays are the "blue light special" they once were for shoppers. I think with the young crop of talent they have, new ownership, and management, they are really looking to build and win. Schilling himself said yesterday, "This ain't the expansion Rays anymore, this is a very strong (offensive) team." That said, I'm sure anyone can be had for pitching...!
  14. Anyone notice that Felix "The Franchise" Pie is hitting .248 in Iowa? (And am I the only one livid that the Cubs actived Rusch off the DL and sent Guzman packing? I really thought that Guzman was getting it together, and that the Angels and D-Backs proved that sometimes you NEED TO DFA A PLAYER no matter what he's making...)
  15. Imagine reuniting Todd Walker with TK though... Yow!
  16. ...if we hire Jimy Williams. It's startling to me that his name would come up in any discussions for a new manager. Unless the latin meaning of "interim" is least inspired, most blatant disregard for track record.... I'd love to find a new Scioscia, or Girardi... Phil Rogers' piece on the AAA Sox manager does have me intrigued.
  17. Moving anyone is fine, but Hendry has proven to be totally inept when it comes to receiving valuable prospects in return for ML players. It seems that I'm a rare Hendry fan, but this is an area where he is clearly clueless.
  18. Some great news from down on the farm, seems that our crown jewel Felix Pie is hitting .267.... But look at the good news, Augie Ojeda threw a scoreless inning!
  19. He'd destroy it. With this coaching staff? I highly doubt it. I don't think the coaches would have any effect on Rickey. My first reaction to the claim that he'd destroy it though, was no way. He hit just .200 in his last stint in the majors, in 2003 at 44. But his OBP was still .321. He's 47 now. If he could hit .180, he could probably significantly beat Pierre's OBP. I know we keep hitting rock bottom over and over again... but nothing says rock bottom like back to back posts advocating the return of Sammy Sosa and signing Jose Canseco. I've said it before, but it bears repeating: If we acquire Jose Hernandez, I'm buying a Cardinals hat.
  20. Duh. I live in NY, and I've seen the power of the people when it came to getting Knicks coaches fired. How do we speed this process up with Baker? I'm seriously ready to call the Cubs and start yelling at whomever picks up the phone. Or even going down the list and trying to talk to any of these people: Jim Hendry Vice President/General Manager Scott Nelson Director, Baseball Operations Billy Williams Special Assistant to the President Randy Bush Special Assistant to the General Manager Keith Champion Special Assistant to the General Manager Gary Hughes Special Assistant to the General Manager Ken Kravec Special Assistant to the General Manager Ed Lynch Special Assistant to the General Manager Chuck Wasserstrom Manager, Baseball Information Brad Kelley Major League Advance Scout Jimmy Bank Traveling Secretary Arlene Gill Executive Assistant to President and General Manager Who's with me? This has got to stop.
  21. Very few owners would spend more than the Tribune. For that matter, very few owners do spend more. The Cobs' payroll is listed right now as 7th in the major leagues by ESPN. Seriously, when do you ever hear about the Cubs not going after an FA because he'll cost too much money? We might not be in the Yanks/BoSox stratosphere, but we're nowhere near the other guys either. This team spends money. By the way, who knew that Jimmy Leyland still had anything in the tank!?
  22. Just to be clear- I've not read anything about this. I just think it's time to get to the bottom of the Cubs' sleep-walking ways since 2004. If the Cubs don't play with ANY fire this weekend, I'll be convinced Baker is no longer the man for the job. (more on this at http://cubswatch.blogspot.com )
  23. How about Corey Patterson? I hear he's having a fine season for the O's... UPDATE: http://cubswatch.blogspot.com
  24. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Rich%20Hill&pos=P&sid=t451&t=p_pbp&pid=448179 He's been really good. Why not Ryu? He was battling for a job in the rotation this spring, and barely lost to Marshall. And what is the point of putting Rusch in the bullpen. Just get rid of him! http://cubswatch.blogspot.com
