The thing with Cohen is he is a fill in. They aren’t going to get a major market guy for just 25 games or whatever (I know it was a few more this year because Boog was sick earlier in the season). But if they had to replace Boog the pool of candidates would be so much bigger and they would have the ability to get one of the top candidates in the game, and not a minor league announcer working as a fill in.
This has been a great opportunity for Cohen but I’d be shocked (and super disappointed) if they were planning on him being the heir apparent. My guess is that Cohen takes this opportunity and turns it in to a full time gig with a team like the Reds, Pirates, A’s, Royals, or some other smaller and less iconic franchise.
