I'm hoping for a last minute appearance with Len screaming, "BAH GAWD, IS THAT SOLER'S MUSIC?!?" as he strides out of the dugout. Yesssssssss He then proceeds to smack a first-pitch fastball into the left field bleachers. Meanwhile, somewhere out there (Alabama?) sontensei has fire coming out of his ears because he shouldn't have been ready for the BIG SHOW yet. AS GOD IS MY WITNESS, THAT BALL IS BROKEN IN HALF.

Because he hasn't really demonstrated anything as a reliever ability, pitch type or selection-wise that indicates his abysmal results as a starter the last two years wouldn't be likely to return. He has actual, albeit slight, value as a reliever right now; money shouldn't dictate that they start a guy.

Baxter in June: .324 .405 .351 .756 Denorfia in June: .279 .318 .393 .712 Soler in May: .288 .336 .423 .759 Obviously everyone wants Soler back and he's ideally much, much better for the Cubs in the long run, but talking like he's all but a lock to give them an instant shot of mega-bat to a struggling offense might be jumping the gun a bit.

I'm pretty much the biggest Soler fan here, but it really seems like some people are overstating the impact he's likely to have when he comes back. He was basically OK at best so far this season. He's replacing Mike Baxter and Chris Denorfia. What?!? NO WAY.

Why? Ask every manager since the dawn of organized baseball. 1. Good on base guy with speed 2. Solid hitter with some speed/OB and/or bunting ability. 3. Best pure hitter 4. Best power hitter 5. Next best who bats from opposite side of 4 6. Next best who bats from opposite side of 5 7-8 and so on 9 pitcher Simply putting someone in those spots doesn't actually make them that type of hitter. He's had his flashes. Now isn't one of them. This being said, I have to wonder how much of that has to do with batting between the pitcher and Fowler, who's bat' has also been south of serviceable lately. Probably has to do more with him being a very young hitter who is still developing. Why would him hitting between a bad hitter and a good hitter make more of a difference than him him hitting between two bad hitters?
