  1. Good thing Pie got hit...I seem to remember Turnbow being really effective last year when he got the first batter out, but if the batter got on, he tended to have serious trouble.
  2. One of the first responses to the original post was "go to hell." If that's not a personal attack, I don't know what is. Later responses implied that the support of Theriot was based on race, and the post above this one felt the need to take a shot at the person starting this thread simply because it didn't get much support. I should be clear-I don't like Theriot, and I personally would prefer Cedeno. But my God, just because someone thinks Theriot is the best SS the team currently has (by no means a ridiculous argument), there is no reason to tell that person to go to hell. Get a little perspective. That was me. I figured such an absurd statement in regards to a nobody ballplayer would be recognized as such. Whoops. The race thing I do think in some cases is somewhat valid, and shouldn't just be dismissed offhand. Yes, something as blunt as "liking Theriot makes you a racist" said in seriousness would be ridiculous, but I find it very curious/interesting/odd that players like Theriot or Eckstein are often defended tooth and nail as "playing the game right" and as "gamers" or "gritty" whereas players like Neifi Perez or Juan Pierre are just awful or "lazy" or even "stupid."
  3. Fukudome threw it in to try and catch Weeks, the throw was wide, Weeks slammed into Soto when he was on the basepath and knocked him over, with the ball going to the backstop.
  4. The Cubs are going to retaliate with a plunking, after which you can be assured the plunkee will definitely score.
  5. That's the dividing line. I think a lot of us ultimately see him in the same area as guys like Macias or Neifi. From that perspective, it's baffling as to how anyone can "like him" as a baseball player, especially since there's little to seperate them from him, and the charges that they were "lazy" or that they were "stupid" seems nonsensical as if Theriot is some shining example of the opposite type of player. I don't think anyone here actually dislikes the guy as a person, but as a starting player there's mountains of tangible problems to dislike or be frustrated over. No, it's not his fault that he's starting, but that doesn't mean anyone has to appreciate him in that role or the negligble big league skills/talent he brings with him. Nobody is rooting for him to do poorly...it's just terribly unlikely he'll be anything but poor.
  6. I would not be opposed to those moves but why Pie so high and DeRosa so low? If you were to flip them I'd be on board. I would not want my #5 hitter to be an offensive liability like Pie who at times will be completely overwhelmed at this level and will struggle to just make contact. The #5 hitter seems to be an unavoidable hole at this point. Sure, they can bat Fukudome there, but he's much better served at #2 or maybe even #1. DeRosa is in the same boat. Both are decent hitters who can take pitches, but they (likely) don't have the power threat to really shore up #5. Of course, Soriano is ideal hitting 5th, but personally, I'm not confident of him being as valuable as he can be anywhere besides #1. I know it's a broken record and probbly no chance of happening, but man, picking up Greene from SD would so wonderfully solve both the SS and #5 issues. I wonder if a package of Marmol/Cedeno/Gallagher/Murton would have a chance of getting that done by the deadline.
  7. This thread makes me want to puke and poop my pants in anger and have a heart attack of shame and a stroke of disgust and other righteously disgusting condemnations and stuff and junk and drama.
  8. He got support in that he was much more preferrable to Izturius at the time. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement. It was generally hoped that by this point at the latest the Cubs would have addressed their SS problem.
  9. I'm really disappointed/pissed at/offended by Ryan Theriot.
  10. A BAD PLAYER THAT "PLAYS HARD EVERY SECOND" IS STILL A BAD PLAYER EVERY ONE OF THOSE SECONDS. I'll bet you loved Jeromy Burnitz.
  11. Of all the people to have run...Aramis?
  12. DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
  13. Was Braun really just running like a cartoon character?
  14. What more can he do/prove in the minors? Let him take his lumps and see if he can mke the turn to the bigs. That would be true if he were on the Royals or Nats, but 100 years later, we dont need a guy trying to prove himself. We need an established leadoff hitter. Sure, idealy, Theriot would be replaced, but there isnt anyone available that can play short and leadoff. The 100 years is meaningless. We need to develop quality players from within the system. Let Felix play.
  15. [knock on wood]Lilly is locked in.[/knock on wood]
  16. Superficial criticism of the day: Felix isn't wearing his socks up. Why, Felix? Why?
