  1. So interleague play = christmas? ... You must have had some crazy Christmases, man.
  2. My biggest concern with the Cubs signing Z longterm is his problem of getting heavier throughout the season, even in recent years when he's shown up for spring training in great shape. He's said himself it's really hard for him to stay on a routine once the season is going that helps him keep the weiht down,a dn his weight problems have led to back issues in the past. I hope that's not the case here.
  3. I still get a kid-like thrill whenever good teams from other divisions come to town to play my team. It's like seeing big comic book characters crossover in my own backyard.
  4. Gotta give Marquis credit for a very well pitched game. 7 innings, only 5 hits, louts of groundballs, no walks...well done, sir.
  5. Agreed. Edmonds, in a way, reminds me of Gary Gaetti in 1998. Both 39, both get a shot in the arm playing for a good team and produce above and beyond expectations. Edmonds is a great story, but he's not going to produce at nearly the rate he has this season. Sign Reed Johnson to a 2-year deal and let Pie play. Or move Fukudome over to CF to platoon with Reed and sign a masher for RF who will be the new #3 with the magical pile of money I just made up out of nowhere.
  6. Man, I don't remember that game at all, but I apparently really hated Dempster after it.
  7. I'm having trouble grasping this gigantic boner. What?
  8. Please, God, no, don't resign him. Enjoy the cheap ride for now and then politely wave farewell at the end of it.
  9. http://www.bartleby.com/59/4/lefthandedco.html WRONG! So it is actually a slam against freakhanded people.
  10. One of the most obvious arguments for Santo being in the HOF is his consistently excellent offensive numbers in what is considered far and away a pitcher's era of baseball. That simply is not the case with Aramis. Aramis is a power hitter in the age of power hitters. Santo was an offensive force for a decade when pitchers, by and large, ruled the game.
  11. I assume this thread should be about a BACKhanded compliment, unless compliments from lefties are apparently evil, what with them using the devil's hand and all.
  12. That wouldn't sell as many tickets. I like how the graphic looks like a fearful Braun fleeing being devoured by a blind and hungry Pujols.
  13. He didn't play much against the against the Cards either. I find that to be interesting, don't you? Doumit didn't play yesterday against the Crew either. I'll bet he plays all 3 against us. Great work guys, we have proof of a conspiracy! Now all we need to figure out is a motive. My point isn't that it's a conspiracy per se, but that teams definitely gear up for the Cubs. We get everyone's best effort. Other teams don't. Come on, you really dont believe that do you? That is embarrassingly lame I don't. I was merely pointing out he's been sick. Plus, he has a .635OPS for August. He was directing it at me. And I do believe teams "get up" to play the Cubs. Not because it's a conspiracy, but because it's quite natural to want to play your best against -- let's face it -- one of the most exciting, well attended and funded teams in all of sports. But as it was basically just pointed out, the Brewers are a likely playoffs-bound team with a lot of heat right now and who are drawing huge crowds at home. Why would a team lay down for them just to stack up for the Cubs? Sure, but they don't have near the name or the support of the Cubs. If this was the Cards, then I might agree with you. This can't be for real.

  15. That Soto blast is perfect from every angle.
  16. Something seems off...for a pitcher like Harden, this should be like tossing chum to a great white shark, but I feel weird about it.
  17. A wretched hive of admiration and skyballing.
  18. yes, please bitch about fukudome or howry tomorrow. Nah...I was whining for a currently good player to do better. Those two are a totally different story right now.
