  1. For the most part, neither were PED's during the Steroid Era. There was one memo from the head offices that nobody put into place or enforced and that was it. I have zero problem with MLB doing what it always does, which is dealing with something way after the fact and moving on. If they want testing now and to kick guys out or suspend them for long stretches, go nuts, but to retroactively go back to seasons when that WASN'T in place is pointless to me. With every other form of cheating that MLB has eventually cracked down on, it was basically approached with an idea of "if you got away with it, good on you, but from here on out we're cracking down." Steroids is being made the exception, and that's hypocritical and detrimental, especially when it means singling out select players from an era when it was widespread.
  2. Believe what you want. I'm not the least bit surprised that he's already had a few injuries; thus, it comes as no surprise that he's not performing (which I believe is likely a result of said injuries). Surpise, surprise...Milton Bradley is injured again. Is that better? Now I can sleep at night.
  3. Put me in the camp that doesn't define production as a .220 avg and .728 ops through 1/3 of the season. I didn't bank on the fact he'd start slow - just that he'd been continuously injured. But again, he's shown repeatedly that he can be very good when able to play. Nobody is saying his numbers to this point are ideal, but to sarcastically say "surprise, surprise" as if you knew he'd be putting up numbers like that is bunk.
  4. no, you are implying that this is what i am saying cheating is cheating...saying a form of cheating carries a little bit more weight currently doesn't mean i condone past offenses So you want the other cheaters to get their own wing of the HOF?
  5. Yes, his slow start was a surprise. Anyone who says they knew he would underperform is a [expletive] liar. What he has shown throughout his career is that when he's not missing time is that he produces at the plate. Everyone knew he'd likely miss significant time this season...what nobody knew was that he'd start so slowly. He also has not been "worthless" the entire stretch of the season so far, but why let reality get in the way of another Jim Hendry fat joke? Not really. Throughout enough of his career that anyone banking he would have started as slowly as he did would have been just been totally shooting in the dark or clarivoyant. There was little reason to assume he'd be such a hitting non-factor when able to play during April and into May like he was.

He also has not been "worthless" the entire stretch of the season so far, but why let reality get in the way of another Jim Hendry fat joke? Reality is his injury history, and the 3 (or is it 4) injuries he's suffered so far this year. I would think that players who are injured/not healthy don't perform up to their standards; therefore, I don't find his performance so far this year a surprise. I've been a poster here for numerous years and have yet to make a Hendry fat reference until my last post. I'll take this time to make another... Jim Hendry is so fat that when the circus came to town and forgot their tent he loaned them his panties to use instead. Except that contrary to what you've said Bradley has shown he does produce despite time missed due to injuries.
  7. So what is the difference between each type of cheating? when you are apart of an era of players who are demolishing records and pretty much make up almost all of the core of "superstar" talent, i think that makes a huge difference over the cheating in the past... So you're fine with cheating to a point. What's the exact cutoff point? fine with cheating to a point eh? interestingly enough, i don't remember typing those words You want steroid users to have a seperate section in the Hall, yet have said nothing about other types of cheaters getting their own sections. You've also gone out of your way to try and show how steroid use is the worst form of cheating the game has seen, seemingly implying that there are lesser, more toelrable forms of cheating. If you're against cheating across the board, fine, but you've said nothing along those lines to this point.

  9. I think you mean DHing and that would be Jack Cust. He's 33, but showing no real signs of slowing down offensively. Though he's had some nagging back (I think) troubles this year. Fox could be part of a deal, though, if Beane thinks Cust's back issues that have forced him to the DH role are temporary. Whoops. I did indeed mean DH.
  10. Uh...Ernie Banks never made it to a World Series. Also when his team needed him most in Sept of '69, he hit 208 /245/333. I guess by that criteria, Banks shouldn't be in the hall either since he was worthless in crunch time and his team never made it to the World Series. I guess we need to remove Sandberg, Billy Williams, and Fergie Jenkins from the HOF too. And all the groundswell for Santo needs to stop as well. They couldn't get their teams to World Series either. When I get the time, I look for other HOFers who never made the World Series so we can purge the Hall of those worhtless guys too. Maybe we can replace them with the Mark Lemkes and David Ecksteins of the world. Besides, Sammy's "clutch" numbers are pretty good.
  11. Indeed. http://maxwellmusze.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/birm-hank.jpg Hitting the most home runs in a single season over his entire career...at age 37. I'll bet it was all just gumption and bellyfire.
  12. Holliday should be able to be had for relatively cheap since he's likely a rental. I doubt he can be traded for with only fringe players, but I doubt it would have to be a huge deal. Who is DHing for the A's these days? Maybe Fox can be part of such a deal. Fox and Patton? Fox and Marshall? Mind you, I'm horrible at putting together trades. I seem to always way overpay or underpay in my hypotheticals.

  15. I don't care if his name does come up. Bonds should be in the HOF. So should Clemens and McGwire and Sosa. We need to stop acting like sniveling children in denial and treating this game like it's some kind of pure institution that was tainted by steroids in the 90's and early 00's. sniveling children in denial? no, i prefer to look at it as men that have let many hearts down men that have spit in the face of fair competition men that were already endowed with gifts that were beyond greedy or better yet...put them in the hall...a special corner spot called "PEDS"...i could live with that Why don't all the other "cheaters" get set aside? All the ridiculous little reasons you just listed apply to anyone who has ever bent or broken the rules over the game's history. Why only set steroids apart?

  17. A guy busts his career home run average of 37 four times after the age of 32, including having his career HR-year at age 37. Yeah, he's clean.
  18. So does the game of baseball in general. I really don't see the point in flipping out over someone using a corked bat when most players are doing every little thing they can to gain an advantage. It's part of baseball. Keeping someone out of the hall for that would be like keeping out one of the best pitchers of an era because he got caught once with sandpaper. Like I said, he got caught for the bat and was suspended. That shouldn't keep him out. Like it or not, nothing and nobody has come even remotely close to busting him when it comes to steroids. That doesn't mean he didn't use them, but for now he should be judged based on his performance. The corked bat should have negligable impact in that regard since use of them over his career would have been detrimental to his numbers.
  19. 5 Guys. In & Out is definitely good, but the burgers aren't as big or filling as the ones from 5 Guys, plus the 5 Guys' fries are worth it by themselves. The In & Out fries are just typical fries.
  20. Which actually doesn't help hitters. lol...which one?...because the last time i checked they both did Numerous studies have shown that corked bats generally don't improve hitting, especially in regards to power. At the most it's going to increase the speed of the swing, but it still ultimately comes down to the hitter's eye and timing so that's arguably a wash. Besides, he got caught, he served his time. Done and done, plus it's unlikely he was using them before the downward slide after the shattered helmet. Uh, yeah. "Generally" was me being generous. Corked bats and their like are actually detrimental more often than not to a hitter, especially a power hitter, since the cork inside actually allows the bat to absorb more of the energy from the ball. The only "benefit" from them is being able to swing quicker, though that could be accomplished with a legit lightened bat that won't absorb the energy from the ball and kill the distance of your hits. And argue the "unlikely" part besides using the bold function. Sammy wouldn't have had the numbers he had if he was using corked bats.

  25. It's Lou's fault his players can't execute a basic skill? It's his fault he's asking them to do it in the first place.
