  1. Who doesn't have dumb sports fans for friends? One of my best friends in the world claimed to "give up" on the Cubs after they traded Theriot. Big [expletive] deal. I love the guy, but he's an idiot fan.
  2. Yeah, he was pretty uppity.
  3. They aren't issuing anything, it's Levine quoting an anonymous source. Or if you prefer, Ricketts' PR guy answering a question asked of him. Fair enough. Where this is coming from has been ambiguous all along. A source close to the Ricketts.
  4. The Cubs have the full attention of their numerous beat reporters and TV partners whenever they want/need it. A few hours is all it takes to schedule a presser. Yeah, but this is about the FUTURE OF THE ORGANIZATION. You have to let that marinate and stew and fester. It's all about showmanship. It's all about ZAZZ!!!!
  5. If you want media attention you have to notify people ahead of time.
  6. Yup. I just don't see how that makes the Yankees appreciably better, especially since starting picthing is their biggest weakness. I'm assuming it's hinged on the idea that the Yankees would want to shed Burnett's contract since he's signed through 2013. Bit of a longshot, to say the least.
  7. Yup. Still feeling pretty crappy about that contract.
  8. You're being sarcastic, right? I'm just saying that if they will make some kind of announcement regarding what they plan on doing in the offseason. Will the be planning something big, or will they try to rebuild from within, because the fact is, i the 2012 team looks like the 2011 team plus a few middling free agents, I don't think I can follow a full season. I'd follow individual player stats such as Castro, Jackson, Cashner, and Garza as well as the farm, and when July rolls along, and they look like they're in contention, I'll hop on the bus there, but I have no intention of hanging on to every game from April-September for a team that looks like this one. I'm at the point where I don't care what they do with Wrigley, and I don't care what they do in Mesa. I don't even care who the GM is for 2012. I care what they plan on doing when it comes to the team itself. You're expecting the owner of the team...in August...at a press conference...to lay out the team's potential trading and FA plans for the offseason? Not the particulars, I don't expect him to say we will be pursuing Prince Fielder or Albert Pujols or CJ Wilson, but they could be able to give us an idea if they plan on doing some spending or if they plan to do more promoting from within. That's still a ridiculous expectation. He's not going to declare their offseason plans like that in August.

  10. HOW ABOUT THE GOAT AND RONNIE WOO-WOO FOR LOGAN MORRISON??? This is serious for reals, so no jokes, please.
  11. Unfortunately he's just talking up about the big step up off their asses they have to take after getting knocked down. *HONKHONK*
  12. Carlos Zambrano is a starting pitcher for the Chicago Cubs.
  13. "Hey Buffy...did you see the baseball team I paid nearly a billion dollars for lost a hundred games? Yeah, I know, I'm pretty awesome. Wanna go bang in my solid gold hovercraft?"

  15. I knew about the Fanhouse strips but figured they were done after they stopped updating.
  16. The Dugout lives again: http://withleather.uproxx.com/2011/08/the-dugout-evan-longorias-police-report Hopefully Thome shows up soon.
  17. While I'm loving all of this draft spending, it can't help but make me nervous about the "reports" about the organization being wary about spending big money on FA, like they view it as an either/or situation.
  18. Seriously, is there anyone that doesn't like Jim Thome? If so, that person needs to be shunned and harmed.
