  1. Sometimes he's better at locating his slider instead of his fastball. Of course, in this instance, he can't locate either one. This entire inning had been baffling until Dolis was finally brought in. Here's Harris' line going in to today: .097 .125 .161 .286 He's been WRETCHED this year. There's basically no excuse to let him on base, yet Marmol is nibbling the entire time with offspeed pitches when he should just be coming right at him. Then on top of that you've got them taking way too long to get the pen going; there's no excuse for letting Marmol face Bruce when you could have had Russell ready to face him. None.
  2. Like I said, I don't begrudge him for sticking with it. At the same time, considering his physical and financial situation, it's certainly not crazy for him to say "it's not worth it to work that hard just to be a middle reliever for a season or two, I'm gonna go be a 1%er and do nothing" either. Of course not. But that's different than saying a dick thing like "when is he going to give up?"
  3. I'm sorry, but you're making it sound like it's potentially life-crushing agony and it's ridiculous. Here's a guy who was touted as being the next great pitcher and people are wondering why he keeps trying to come back, if even just in the minors or a taste of the bigs? The money you keep bringing up isn't going anywhere. I can't believe we're having to spell this out.
  4. He still has a chance to play professional baseball again, which is more than about, what, 99.something% of the population can say? Why WOULDN'T he try if he thinks he can, even if just for a brief period?
  5. The [expletive]? Why should he? Because he can't stay healthy and keeps ending up under the knife. When is it enough? He's never going to pitch in the majors again. He has plenty of money. Go live your life, the dream is over. Man, that's some hearty meatballin'.
  6. Didn't he have more than the rest of the team before the game tonight? Just getting back from work and haven't checked updated stats, so I'm purely guessing. Because Stewart hit one tonight, I think the Cubs have 12 total home runs. LaHair has 6 of them. 11.
  7. What's the argument against giving each manager a challenge per game?
  8. This is just getting beyond absurd with Stewart lining out.
  9. Have Russell and Camp standing by and nobody else.
  10. Len, please, stop; I can't have a bigger crush.
  11. Plus he's showing Arroyo how to not wear long hair like an asshat.
  12. It's like everyone's racist grandfather; you know he's awful and wrong but he's so damn old and set in his ways that after a while it just ends up as "what's the [expletive] point?"
  13. It's the uncle I was just talking to yesterday, who thinks Darwin Barney is the pinnacle of "what the Cubs need more of" and who still bemoans the loss of Theriot. What do you do in those conversations? I used to get all riled up and want to argue when I was younger. Now I'm just all like, "Heh. Yea. How about that." Basically. He's of the ilk that loves to jokingly rub it in when a player he thinks I "hate" has a good game or a good stretch or even turns out to be generally productive, like I'm going to be furious that someone is playing well for the Cubs (which is what he does; basically any time Soriano does something not horrible he acts like he's been stabbed in the dick). There's really not much you can do that won't escalate to an argument so I just roll with it and let him keep providing me with choice free tickets.
