  1. trust me im a huge pie fan...but is he going to turn out like another murton or patterson? where do we go next, colvin in the minors?...I'm sick of seeing a platoon of guys playing in the outfield.
  2. true about the whole past their peak, but they are better than what he got....who knows if pie will ever be able to hit. I could see Jones breaking out in a stadium like Wrigley, but then again he is a strikeout king.
  3. Has anyone heard if the Cubs would ever consider going for a big name outfielder like a Torrii Hunter or Andruw Jones?
  4. to the fukodome lover; fukodome is also 30 years old; sounds like the outfield version of shingo takatsu
  5. Does anybody realize jacque jones carried us into the playoffs last year?...the guy had clutch hit after clutch hit and his defense in center was fantastic. Hopefully this is a move in order to make room for Carl Crawford, otherwise I'm not buying it we already have Derosa, Theriot, Cedeno, Fontenot, Eric Patterson, and now Infante. Erroneous.

  7. give the kid (Theriot) a chance........i think Chip Caray could do a better job managing this team.....couldnt you just hear him in the dugout, Caray: (commentation as he manages)"This one's hit deep way back WAY BACK, THIS ONE IS..... Stone: "caught in shallow center by the shortstop Jose Nieves." Caray: (back on bench) "Wind must have gotten a hold on that one...(to player) "Jus got under that one didn't you Julio (Zuleta)."
  8. Why is everybody filling in Izturis as the starting shortstop in 07? It shows what a great player he is in the fact that the Dodgers traded for Julio Lugo to play 2nd instead of using Izturis as Kent's backup. Izturis is batting 2-13 since coming over. You can't give up on Cedeno....yet. The guy has played 60 games more than last year (102 so far this year) and it is regular for a young kid (Cedeno is 23)to go through a draught in the 2nd half of season. A SS/2B combo of Izturis/Cedeno is not going to work out. Cedeno stays and Izturis leaves unless he wants to become this year's Neifi Perez. Cedeno can be flexible at which up the middle position he plays based on who we get in free agency. We are lucky we didnt get Furcal he's made 21 errors so far, 4 more than Cedeno.
  9. It's a given Zambrano's the ace.......but who follows him? Prior's injuries and the rookies Marmol, Marshall, Hill, Guzman who knows how this rotation could fill out. Everybody seems to mention Jason Schmidt, but weve been talking about him for years. It should be interesting to see how the rotation fills out next year.
  10. Another move thew Cubs could look for in the offseason is a trade for a guy like Aaron Rowand, who Philadelphia was shopping before the deadline. The guy hasn't hit very well ever since his injury a horrific .257 for the season but career OBP is .334, and plays terrific defense. Anyway it is just a thought, who knows he could have a break out season, but dont thinki that I'm suggesting him as the "big bat" the cubs will be looking for this offseason.
  11. The Cubs are just wasting their minor league system.....whether its Dusty Baker's fault idk....Dubois was the MVP last season in Triple A, was he ever given a legitimate chance , day in and day out, he and hollandsworth split outfielding douties, and then he was sent packing for really Matt Lawton.....Cedeno showed he is a very good defender and a mediocre hitter, but he still i dont believe was given a chance because perez was used at ss though he was going through a slump at the time, and i agree that he needs a little more time in minors and shouldnt just sit behind nomar, hopefully he can be the future ss of the cubs, or id even try him at 2b, and sign nomar to play short, or vice versa......Murton, the guy hits over .300 after being called up from Double A, and he is the one who is sent down?, Patterson once again is batting .231 and still cant score a runner from third with 1 out (as seen tonight), i believe murton might not be faster then patterson, but murton is not a liability, has an okay arm, and has shown he can hit any good lefty pitcher in the league....anyway im tired of seeing our prospects fail time and time again, you look down the starting lineup and how many guys actually came from farm system....
  12. Why is corey patterson all of a sudden a lock in center field?....the guy hasn't changed his swing very much..before .232/.379/.270 through 8 games .236/.388/.274 , the other night he struck out on a fastball at his head and a ball in the dirt to andy pettite, patterson should platoon with hairston
  13. Dempster has been good, but i still find a way not to believe in the guy. My heartbeat increases when he goes in the game depending on if hes wild or not. When he gets ahead he is a very good pitcher. I think he never will be a dominant closer. I really think we should go out and get a guy like Billy Wagner this offseason or switch to wood because i believe he will be dominant, its worked with Gagne, Smoltz, Schilling, Dotel (sort of)
  14. I think you would have to give up more to get a guy like Schmidt, and i dont think they would trade him because the giants are preparing for next year and schmidt is the ace of their staff. I love the thought of it because of how he has dominated the cubs, but its not gonna happen.....
  15. I think you are giving up WAY too much for Eddie G when I honestly feel Demp could out pitch him in the closer role.. Eddie is like 35 yrs old...Seattle would have to give me Eddie+Winn just to get one of Cpatt or Cendeno Winn is no longer in Seattle.......I totally agree who would give up Cedeno CPatt and Mitre for Guardado?....seattle already has morse and a couple other SS prospects....why guardado?
  16. An excerpt from the U.S.A Today 8/11/05 "RHP Kerry Wood who has been relegated to the bullpen because of shoulder problems hit 100mph on the radar gun in ninth inning mop-up duty Wednesday" Now tell me how that makes any sense at all, hes got shoulder problems but hitting 100 mph on the radar gun?....What will this arthroscopic surgery do to help him pitching? Will he ever be that same starter he was in the 2003 playoffs? Should Kerry Wood be a starter or a closer next season when he returns from the surgery?....these injuries never cease to stop plauging him, you tell me what we should do with him.....
  17. What should the Cubs do with their rotation after this season? Prior and Zambrano are keepers, Maddux idk, but with Hill and Williams struggling in both their last two starts, and the Cubs now having lost 8 games in a row, something needs to be done. The offense hasnt been there the last week, but the Cubs aren't gonna win games anyway when their pitching (rotation and bullpen) gives up 8 runs day in and day out.
  18. I don't care how many home runs or RBI's the guy has, he's hitting .289/.418/.487/.905, and that's at a park that is killer against left handers. Away from Petco he's hitting a ridiculous .333/.459/.588/1.047.[/quote ] Quick question: What is Carl Crawford's contract situation, did he just sign long term with the D Rays?....he would be a good outfielder with his speed if you put him in center...
  19. Why are we talking Brian Giles, i know it is a weak year for outfielders, but wouldn't you think the Cubs would try to trade for someone better than him? The guy is 34 years old, salary is 8 million plus this year, and he has 11 homers and 57 rbis, those are michael barrett like numbers....pierre is not the answer either, i'd rather have murton over him, keep patterson in center or package him, his swing looks a lot flatter than what it was yesterday.....
  20. Here's something to think......the Oakland A's or the cheapest team in baseball is tied for 1st place in the AL West after falling 15 games below .500 on May 29. Their success has been based on the play of ROOKIES (Dan Johnson, Dan Haren, Nick Swisher, Joe Blanton, Huston Street), 2nd year pitcher Rich Harden, and the leadership of Eric Chavez. This team is a total opposite of the Chicago Cubs. They steal bases, play small ball with bunts, get people on base, and support their pitchers, which have been stellar. Highest ERA on the staff Ricardo Rincon 4.44, tell me thats not good. Its hard not to like these guys, im a diehard Cubs fan that has seen 7 straight days of terrible baseball. Why Dusty doesn't play Murton more is beyond me, let the guy have a chance to hit against a righty pitcher. Why greg maddux is stealing bases and the rest of the team isn't? Why michael barrett has dropped at least 20 balls from the outfielders out of his glove this season?.....There are too many questions that can be asked, but i sure wish we could be a bit more like the A's in the way that they come out ready to play everyday.....HIT THE ROAD DUSTY!!!
  21. you are right, im just saying, if he came in after zambrano, prior, wood, and rest of flame throwers, it would throw the other team off with all his great offspeed stuff, i still dont know why the sox just dumped him, but the cubs need to evaluate their bullpen after this next season. Ohman is a keeper the guy has seemed to calm down the last couple of months. Dempster should stay in the bullpen , but im still not sold on him being the closer. Williamson, you have to give this guy another year, seems like such a competitor. Others should include Novoa, Wuertz. But what do you do with Rusch and Mitre and even say Jerome Williams after next season?
  22. Why dont the Cubs pick up Shingo Takatsu who was released about a week ago? The guy has never pitched in the national league and could still give the Cubs a few good years, even though he is 36...
