His stats are better than Maualuga. Who should have gotten it over Laurinaitis? That's mainly because of the system. OSU's scheme funnels everything to him. Laurinaitis is great at making tackles 5-10 yards down the field but he doesn't shed blocks very well, isn't going to dominate at the point of attack, and isn't going to make tons of plays in the passing game. He is not in the same universe as A.J. Hawk, Paul Pozlusny, or some other recent Big 10 linebackers.
